Seen a lot of really negative posts and some people seem to think our players and manager have become poor overnight.
This is the same set of players that won the league and champions league. We don't need to get rid of them all and start again.
It was an absolutely abysmal performance from start to finish and bar Salah no one played well and even looked to be putting in the effort you would expect.
My only question for the Ed's would be, do you think the one concerning aspect of the game was the lack and tactical response from Klopp?
It was clear we either needed to drop the high line, further encourage a press or at the very least speak to the defence, van Dijk in particular and get him to lead the line and drop when required.
All I really saw from Klopp was midfield and attacking formation changes followed by taking Gomez off and throwing a cm into defence but still with exactly the same tactical and pressing issues we had before.
I have never been a massive fan or Klopp tactically during matches, and even in his timing and choice of substitution.
He is obviously a wonderful manager by everyone has their weaknesses and it did concern me that there was no real effort to address the huge issues the team were facing.

{Ed001's Note - he was making changes to try and score goals, not to try and shut up shop. I don't find that concerning, I find that refreshing.}

I have zero concerns about Klopp, you said it yourself, everyone has their weaknesses. Personally I can't see many with the man, he's a legend for us. He's not daft and has worked wonders for us. People (not saying you) are very quick to forget exactly how far he's brought us. He can do whatever he wants with substitutes, people don't moan about it until we lose which is a rare occurance these days. Rewind 10 years then I get it, now we have no room to moan about how he is doing his job.

ED01, Why do you think there was such a lack if reaction on the field to some obvious tactics? Aside from the poor individual performances the lack of reaction and thinking was a concern. Our best trait has been our ability to access and work out what's required to win (usually) without too much change. Disappeared, hopefully just a one off.

{Ed001's Note - lack of leadership was the biggest main issue.}

But surely there would be no point trying to create a threat if you aren’t nullifying theirs. I’m not suggesting his changes weren’t right but I feel they needed to be coupled with defensive changes as otherwise we were bound to keep conceding as we did. We were never likely to outscore them if the second half of they continued to score. We needed to stop conceding and then try to claw back the difference.

The leadership and confidence lost with the absence of Henderson and Alisson just set off a chain reaction of awfulness that got exponentially worse with every thing that went wrong.

I can forgive the defence for getting all rickety after Adrians mistake, being afraid to put a foot in and second guessing the offside trap, what i cannot forgive is the pathetic performance of the midfield in which tracking runners suddenly was not a part of the game of football, and Firmino who, instead of stepping up to keep us in the game, suddenly forgot how to pass or control a football, or even press as well. It was a disgrace.

{Ed025's Note - all the midfield especially had poor games all at the same time AW, i cant see that happening again, yes it was a brain fart of epic proportions mate but after last season one calamity can be forgiven i would say, expect normal service to be resumed forthwith..

So are we saying if Hendo doesn't play we might as well forfeit the game. We must have got lucky at home to Arsenal and all the other games we've won over the years when he's been absent. Why can't we just admit we were shocking on the day and got hammered. Like we were agaisnt City when Hendo was in the team.

I was only saying when were missing big players like mane who is a leader with how he presses
Henderson our captain and Allison been a leader at the back organising and been comfortable to pass our way out of pressing situations

I think Milner needs to start he is a leader and still a quality player wijnaldum hides and keita hasn't found his best form

For me milner is the leader that was missing.

I agree we needed a leader but for christ sake mate, Mane isn't a leader and neither is Alisson. They were missed because they are exceptional players but they aren't leaders. Leaders are Hendo, Milner, robbo. Who will open their mouth when you step a foot out of line. That's what we needed the other night and unfortunately for us we didn't have it.

Do you remember since we signed vvd how many people on here were saying how he should replace Hendo as captain lol, I do remember. Now look, I kind of find it quite funny, I love vvd as a player I really do but he was sh*te as a captain the other night. He can't do it, simple as.

Mane is a leader how he presses and tracks back is leadership he is a leader and sets the tempo for Liverpool

Ali OK maybe not your leader but he is a player thst when missing greatly effects other players
He also helps organise the back line as do all defenders

When he's out teams grow in confidence and when teams feel confident there dangerous

Thats were starting Milner would be important he's the man who gets stuck in leads with tackles and a voice

Just think when big players are missing he meeds to start drops and helps fullbacks!

Alex YNWA, I see what you are saying it would not have mattered anywhay cos we were not even competing in the game, which is a shambles in it of itself. It does not matter what tactics, player present/ missing or the manager you have. If you are not competing, getting stuck i, focused on the job at hand, you have no chance.

Add to that, the abject spinelessness of plyers not being arsed to put in a shift, stick the boot in or track runners from deep or worse, ducking out of challenges here and there, and not being arsed to tackle the opposition then a crap show is what you get.

Now if Hendo and/ or Milner need to be on the pitch as leaders, for all of this to happen then, we have bigger problems moving forward. I do not think it will b an issue, tho. Klopp does not suffer any fools. If you are not ready to work hard and compete in games, the door is right to my left. We needed this thumping to be brought back down to earth and to remind us of what is required to win just a game of football. Klopp is on it.
