Ed001 i know money is complex at the best of times, but with insurance covering Virgil's wages and fans maybe back in Stadiums by January, do you think Klopp will still push for Diego Carlos?

Good point Ed001. I must say though, i'm far less worried than others seem to be.

Since just after he signed Van Dijk has played in every Premier League and Champions league game except 1. Most rival fans would probably think that 1 game, we let in loads of goals. No. When in reality Fabinho and Matip played and kept a clean sheet. Who against? Norwich? West Brom? No again. It was actually against Bayern Munich and the best striker of the last decade, Lewandowski. In fact, that is the last time Bayern failed to score in a Champions League game.

Any combination of Matip, Gomez and Fabinho is still better than 18 of the other 19 centre back pairings/ trios in the league. Laporte and Dias being the only exception. For me, we will be just fine.

Ed001 - out of the younger lads who we have in that position Williams, Phillips, Van Den Berg and Koumetio - not sure of any others- any ideas whos most well thought of within the club, and do you think any of them ready to step in if called on. Phillips seems as if he had a decent half season in Germany and played well for us in the cup last year but obviously we were looking to get rid this summer.

I wish Fabinho had had a stinker as centre back the last time he played in that position (was it against Chelsea? ) . Klopp would have bought a centre back.

Matip was epic in that Munich game. His best game in a Liverpool shirt. Headed everything away and passed the ball well. I like the way he breaks forward. If he stays fit and steps up j think we'll be okay.

Hamidou, if Fab had had a stinker then, we don't win whatever game we are talking about and prolly do not win the title or the CL so not sure what that post is about, frankly.

If Matip and Gomez get into form and play their best we should be fine. Ed2 has said Klopp wants a starter CB so now is the time for those two to prove it isn’t necessary. I have doubts over Matips injury record and Gomez’s ability full stop to be honest but could be blessing in disguise to ensure VVD has the best possible partner when he returns, whether that person is already at the club or not, by seeing how players do without him there to cover mistakes which he does a lot of.

People calling for fab to play cb and maybe in big games he will. But it also means our vvd injury has affected our mf. We're so much better with Hendo and fab in midfield. So we're not only losing our best cb but our best dcm.

Philips is a man as opposed to the other young cbs. Maybe he is the next in line. Seen him play well in pre season.
