Ed01, what's your take on Roberto Firmino atm? A lot of fans seem to be jumping on his back. I don't get it. Okay, he hasn't scored but we don't rely on him to score we rely on him to make goals and support the attack. As far as I can see he is doing that. Not up to his brilliant best but do you think his play justifies fans calling for him to be dropped?

{Ed001's Note - no, I don't see that he deserves to be dropped. His link up play is getting better and he is a player that always takes a run of games to get going at the start of a season. The last thing you do is drop him. What he needs is more support from the midfield at the moment as they are not helping the press at all. Klopp was forced to make a change at half-time for precisely that reason.}

Agree1 Disagree0

We have to also understand that we didn't have a proper pre-season either. They are all getting back to full fitness.

21 Oct 2020 23:49:36
Yeah, I think his link up play has been good. And he knows his team mates that much better now.

Of our midfielders it's gini that concerns me the most, he was quite good tonight but he hasn't been on it. I dunno if it's convenient to just say Barcelona turned his head, but he hasn't been brilliant. Not the same mf without hendo.

22 Oct 2020 00:14:06
I have always defended Bobby but I am growing frustrated with him this season. I've thought his link up play has been poor and first touch not quite there atm. I hope you're right ed and is just taking some time to get going.

22 Oct 2020 00:31:16
I think he thrives on the fans. Bobby is struggling the most without us.

22 Oct 2020 01:10:44
Bmena, I dunno but I get the feeling everytime Bobby gets the ball we expect him to make a goal.
But, if you look at a replay of all our goals so far this season he is involved in most of them, well over half of them. I'm not saying he has the assist on all of them, but he sets up the guy that sets up the scorer.

If you have a forward like Harry kane or evdn calvert lewin, the wingers job is to feed him. With us it's the other way round. Firmino is a world class footballer.

22 Oct 2020 05:23:08
His proven to an effective late bloomer, he should be okay.

22 Oct 2020 00:12:55
Thanks for your opinion BTW ed01.

{Ed001's Note - very welcome Rob.}

22 Oct 2020 07:45:51
It’s all opinions and everyone is entitled to one. Bobby is a fantastic player and I’ve not seen a Liverpool fan say he’s not. What I have seen is fans say he needs to score more. He has 0 goals in 8 games this season and 2 assists. He has 1 goal in his last 22 games for LFC and 3 goals in total for 2020. This despite having a similar amount of shots as Mane. Yes we say he’s involved in most or over half of our goals, but we’ll probably find so are most of the team. It’s not like the keeper kicks it to bobby and then he passes to 1 player before they set up a goal. We have a team of ballers and our build up play is some of the best in the world.

The key point though is Klopp is happy with Bobby and keeps picking him. So it doesn’t matter what anyone else in the world thinks of him the gaffer wants him leading the line so he’s gone lead the line until Klopp sees different. I’m not being critical of bobby as I believe he’s a fantastic player but it doesn’t mean he’s above critique from the fans when no other player is.

Just my 2 pence worth.

22 Oct 2020 07:59:50
He has to score yes he does loads but we muss a striker in some games. He has to adjust his game. He helps with the press but that just means one less player upfront sometimes. He has to play striker some times. Divide it 50-50.

22 Oct 2020 08:21:48
It’s not just Bobby that’s been poor though, Trent, Gomez and vvd have all been poor by their standards aswell this season. Like someone said earlier there’s been no preseason so we need to give to players time to adjust. It’s not like we’re falling behind, most teams are having teething problems. Bobby’s whole game is off at the minute but I don’t think dropping him is the right thing, we haven’t had a problem scoring so it’s not like we need goals.

22 Oct 2020 09:29:29
One things for sure. Jota is banging on the door already! He might force his way in.

22 Oct 2020 10:14:46
How long do we give him? His poor run has been going on for many many months if not years. Bobby has lost all confidence in front of goal, he can’t convert basic chances. He is try flicks in his own half that nearly cost us a goal last night and one against Everton. Bobby not scoring this season will cost us we can’t afford any passengers.

22 Oct 2020 10:45:18
The Bobby Firmino that played against Everton I can take, he doesn't have to score. He was alive a full of energy. Last night, not so much but then again neither was any of the forwards really. I agree with Markp08, that wee flick he tried outside our own box was criminal, not the place to be doing that.

22 Oct 2020 10:48:12
I would never of guessed you'd be posting on this mark haha.

Matter of time before we see him at his very best, mark my words, he's still got it and will prove it. Benching him would do him no good and send him backwards, he must stay in that starting 11. The good thing is, Klopp will always start him so that's enough for me.

22 Oct 2020 11:31:31
I'm not worried about Bobby but what is going on with Trent, he is off the boil and does not look happy in any game we've played this season.

22 Oct 2020 12:24:15
Ed01 is completely accurate, IMO. Bobbie has actually improved his link up play since his return from the international break. As someone said earlier, he has been involved in the last 8 goals we have scored as either being that assistant or the guy behind the pass or movement that led to the goal.

Ed01 is also correct that Bobbie needs more support from midfield cos several times, he is often on his own. Last night, Bobbie was also unlucky not to score twice and should have gotten that penalty, IMO cos the defender had to stretch his arm to pull him down. He also had twoo good headers that a° was unlucky that it bounced straight at the GK and the other was a tough chance to take off the corner.

When Bobbie plays for Brazil, all the players like Neymar, Cou, Everton, etc, play FOR Bobbie. He does not drop that deep cos the support is always there hence, he scores more. That does not happen with LFC so people need to consider that in their analysis. Should he score more? Yes BUT he cannot do that on his own. He needs the team to be behind him, something he is NOT getting right now.

22 Oct 2020 12:33:31
I mite be wrong here but mino looked far more energetic than bobby last night. I agree keep playing booby for a few more game but there has to be a point were we say mino is in to give bobby a kick up the arse.

22 Oct 2020 12:59:29
Him and wijnaldum have been poor since the restart, both need some time out, bobby doesn't look confident in-front of goal at all, maybe he can drop back into midfield for the link up and Jota, Salah and Mane can play up-top, plenty of movement from them three, Thiago supplying them.

22 Oct 2020 13:45:37
Don’t blame the others players RM Bobby is responsible for his own performances. Over the last 12 months the team has created Bobby countless very good chances. It’s up to Bobby no one else.

22 Oct 2020 13:45:57
I’m sorry Rm but your love of bobby is clouding your reply there mate and making it biased. Bobby is a fantastic player and there’s nothing wrong in saying he’s not hitting his usual heights and hasn’t for some time. Above in another thread you say Wiji should have scored his header but say bobby was unlucky with his. Bobby’s header almost went out for a throw in. Yes he’s got a better scoring record for Brazil but that doesn’t directly effect us and he’s mostly playing against South American teams that cannot defend (Neymar is about to be a one their top ever scorer. Enough said) . And to say he should have got a penalty I almost spat my tea out. If that had been against us we would be rioting and crying blue murder. And then to lay the blame on the teams door saying they are not behind him. Well the team bit behind each other hasn’t stopped Salah, Mane, Hendo, Robbo, Fab and Thiago having great performances this season.
OJ Simpson had a better defence than which you’ve given Bobby mate. No one is slating him but you can’t throw the team under the bus to protect him.

22 Oct 2020 13:57:46
LancasterRed, what are you talking about? Gini was very good last night esp. after Hendo came in to unshackle him from his DM duties and IMO, should have scored a double last night with those late bursts into the box.

22 Oct 2020 14:15:21
To whichever Ed who see's this, you must sit and giggle at these kind of conversations?

{Ed025's Note - i do giggle salah, at the ones who defend the non scoring world class non entity that is bobby mate, i will have red tinted glasses and all that but sometimes you just have to tell the truth, he has been underwhelming for quite a while now and the likes of mini and jota must be asking what they have to do to get a start mate..

22 Oct 2020 19:14:52
Why would you think the Ed’s giggle at this Salah mate? Isn’t this what the site is for. Bit of debate and banter amongst the LFC fans.

22 Oct 2020 21:27:25
JK23, what part of my post did I throw the team under the bus? The fact is that Gini had a lot easier chances to take as he missed a 1 on 1 and a sitter when Minamino played in thru vs the GK while Bobbie had two difficult chances to take off the corner and still got his head to them. Who had the easier chance to score? Not sure I needed to make that glaring difference BUT stranger things have happened in life.

Also, Bobbie's link up and hold up play vs Ajax was very good IMO, as well cos near every pass fired into him stuck to him and he played a couple of brilliant passes behind the Ajax defence and with a bit more again, luck Salah was away. And YES on another day, gets the penalty and if that was an Ajax player, I think it would have gone against us esp. at their patch so there goes your tea.

Now to your point, it is clear that Brazil play a diff. way as Bobbie has the support of his team mates to create for him. Clearly, that is a diff. from the system Klopp plays. So what is wrong with the system being tweaked to offer him more help to get more chances? Where in that did you deduce that I blamed his team mates when clearly, we don't play the same way Brazil does? You and MarK08 made that deduction on your own so stop blaming me for your own deductive reasoning capabilities. Either way, I gave my opinion and you are free to disagree. As for the O. J comparison, no need for such nonsense.

22 Oct 2020 21:39:29
Rm I was expecting at least a decent debate back mate. Not a load of assumptions that you are trying to get across as facts.

22 Oct 2020 19:58:24
E025 the voice of reason. Sometimes Ed a fecking spade is a JCB on here, ha. They have their favourites and even when they are playing crap you can’t reason with them. Certain players get judged totally unfairly by different rules.

{Ed025's Note - your dead right mark, it seems if you say anything negative about a player or a performance you are seen as some sort of traitor, all the other sites seem to cope better with criticism than here mate, dont get me wrong i dont like to see players getting it in the neck for nothing...but my god is it so wrong to say a player is not performing or would be better replaced by someone from the bench?..seems so..

22 Oct 2020 21:57:19
My deductive capabilities came from this sentence.
“He needs the team to be behind him, something he is NOT getting right now”
Looks quite clearly the blame is being placed on the team.
Yes your deductive capabilities are better than anyone else I know as you know Ajax would have been awarded a penalty even though it never happened. Genius in hindsight.
With regards to your Liverpool Brazil comparison did you even look at the numbers.
Liverpool 57 goals 180 games. So 1 goal in just over every 3 games
Brazil 15 goals in 46 games. So tada 1 goal in just over every 3 games.
Yet your argument is they support him more and create him more chances. When his goals per game is almost identical.
With LFC he actually had a similar amount of chances to Mane last season so the team can’t be letting him down too much.
Bobbies link up play was good last night but that was never mentioned in my original debate. I also see you failed to mention his close control flick on the edge of our box that we could have conceded from.
And as far as how easy the chances were It’s all opinion on which were easier. Just because you say Wiji were easier doesn’t make that true not sure I needed to point that out mind as it’s glaringly obvious but stranger things have happened.
However I’m sure Klopp will be keen to tweak his system that he’s used to win us the CL and PL to get the best out of Bobby that you have clearly picked up on that he has missed.

22 Oct 2020 21:59:27
Ed025 would love to have a pint and footie chat with you. Seem like a top bloke.

{Ed025's Note - im just a passionate scouser JK who loves the game, when all this pandemic malarkey is over maybe we will get to have a natter in the sandon or the lutine bell over a pint or 10 mate..cheers..

22 Oct 2020 23:42:57
Sorry JK23, I spoke facts. YEs, Bobby was unlucky to score and get his penalty as he had one header off a corner that he got on target BUT right at the GK and the other was off a corner that he could not redirect it towards goal. As for Gini, he had a one on one with the GK that he missed and the other, he missed a tap in after being set up by Minamino. Now, you tell me wo had the more difficult chances? I did not know I had to break this down to you BUT hey, whatever, yeah?

Secondly, where in my post did throw the team under the bus? I specifically explained that the rest of the team need to get closer to him instead of leaving him isolated, something that was not a problem when he scored 27 goals in all comps. in the 17/ 18 season.

Also, that is how he plays whenever he plays for Brazil cos clearly, he is used differently than the way Klopp uses him here As for the penalty, if an Ajax player had done that, it would have been a penalty IMO, and you would have had to scrape your tea off the floor swallow it after you spat it out. Overall, There are things Bobbie can do better of course, and there are ways the team can be set up to help him. That is just my opinion and you are free to disagree.

23 Oct 2020 07:14:00
Rm you do realise that you say you spoke facts but at the end of every sentence you use IMO (in my opinion) or just my opinion.
So is it facts or just your opinion?
The argument is that bobby drops too deep to help out but now you are saying the team need to get closer to him to help him. So does that mean the team need to drop deeper to be closer to him or is he too far forward?
As of this sentence
Also, that is how he plays whenever he plays for Brazil cos clearly, he is used differently than the way Klopp uses him here
That’s like a politician sentence just throw a load of mumbo jumbo in and don’t actually answer a question
I’m shocked that Neymar scores so many goals from wide though what with Bobby being clearly used in a different way. After all without bobby doing what he does here Salah and Mane would be lucky to get any goals.

23 Oct 2020 10:02:42
You've took me wrong JK mate lol of course it's all about debate and banter. Read this thread and I'm sure even you will agree it got to the point of been a little petty. I'm singling nobody out, people have their opinions and that's fine but back and forth like it has gone is pretty barmy because nobody is going to change eachothers minds. I don't know, we're all different, I just found this one a bit humorous.

23 Oct 2020 10:30:04
Salah no worries mate. I didn’t take it personally was just curious. I actually enjoyed this thread personally mate. Thought people made some great points and was very interesting to read everyone’s views. Pubs by me are closed now so for me this site is my new football debate go to place. I never take peoples opinions personally and if it ever looks like I’m firing back from the hip that is not my intentions. Most of my comments can be tongue in cheek but it’s easy to misconstrue what someone says in writing to what they actually mean. Some absolute great posters on this site and the Ed’s are all top notch. Imagine if this site organised a get together and had a few beers. I’m not sure if it would end up in a punch up or one of the best nights of our lives 🤣.

23 Oct 2020 10:43:11
Lol I think it'd be a very good night jk mate, imagine? Chance would be a fine thing. We all have our disagreements but at the same time we all want what's best for Liverpool and that's the main for me mate.
