I was just looking at our results this season. And do you know what? It isn't bad at all. In any season bar last season and the one before that, this would be considered am excellent start.

Okay we lost 7 2 but its 3 points. Same as 1 0. We've beaten arsenal and Chelsea. We've won our first cl game, away. And we've dished out our own 7 2. Another 7 2 if you look at our mini pre season at Blackpool. The Everton result niggles because we won that game and were robbed. We deserved to win it, I don't think a draw is a fair reflection of the game. But it's still an away draw against the team keeping our top spot warm for us.

And think of this. Vvd injury has knocked us for six. But in the game before we lost 7 2. And in the first game without him, against better opposition.

Robbie agree it has been a good start result wise. In the last 2 seasons we didn’t lose until late (r) in them so it was always going to be a bitter pill to swallow when we took an early loss in a season under Klopp. However I think the downer is how we lost to Villa as that was a disastrous performance as well as a result. And I don’t think even a 30 goal win over Blackpool in pre season would cancel that villa result out. However the players have reacted well since. The other disheartening thing probably is how we have seemed to lose key players to injuries or isolation. VVD, Thiago, Mane, Hendo and Allison have all been affected by this and that’s almost half of a side and all 5 of those are key players and this has all happened within our first 5 league games. The positive is that only VVD injury is longterm and the rest are back or close to being back so there is plenty to be excited for in the future. It was only 10 years ago that we made that start under Hodgson and we were down in the relegation zone.

I think the villa result was a much needed grounding for the lads. Like I've said, we didn't react right to letting in the first goal. We went all out to equalise ASAP. It left us open - 2 down and then we are wide open. It snowballed. And villa were excellent btw.

It was a horrible game to watch, it was embarrassing. Those players won't want to be embarrassed again. We've played much better since that loss imo.

With you there, Robbie and JK23. Another thing people need to keep in mind. Liverpool have the toughest schedule in the opening 10 games of the season cos we would have already played Leeds, Chelsea, Arsenal, Everton and City in the first 10 games. And after playing all these teams bar City, we have 10 points from 15. That is not a bad start at all. In fact

IMO, the reason it seems bad is the standards we have set for ourselves in the poast 2/ 3 seasons. Also, the way the Villa loss (of course, we can lose to them) has happened, the performance and the score. Now include the injuries to Allison, TAA, VVD, Gomez struggling for form and of course the VVD injury, how the injury happened and how we got screwed 4 diff. ways in the derby, is what makes the start look bleak.

Whereas on a clear numbers level, we have had a very good start, really and so the hope is we can win the next 3 home games (2 in the PL, 1 in the CL) and gain maximum confidence before the City game.

The craziest thing this season is we conceded 1 goal in total against Arsenal, Chelsea and Ajax and then 12 goals against Leeds, Villa and Everton. I can’t wait to play City where we are guaranteed another clean sheet but not really looking forward to WBA and Fulham where we might concede another 12 😂.

{Ed025's Note - it should get easier from here in JK, you have played most of the top teams in villa, leeds and of course everton mate.. :)

Good thread. Makes a good read. Watch us thrive this season, a difficult start but leading onto a perfect finish :) looking forward to seeing the lads lift that trophy again. Hopefully next time infront of fans.

got to agree with everyone, we have had a run of difficult games, and came thru quite well, even tho we have been hit badly with injuries, C.V. and poor starts to a couple of players,
so we got some tough away games under our belt, and should really have got the 3 points V Everton,
now we are starting to get players back, and both Jota and Taki are coming on strong,
if we start with Thiago today I expect to win this game, and Ali could be back for the West Ham game next weekend .

maybe prior to the Villa game, we had been found out, with our high line, and so so unlucky to concede so many goals at Villa, who by the way, played really well, but our game plan, was not right, and missing big players told in the end .
3 big points today and we will be smiling again .

Spot on, Kop That. Just finished watching the City v WH game and my word, they are in a ditch. They are short of sharpness and they like LFC, have players off form, struggling for form or being over-played like Sterling and my he had a shocker cos the games are coming thick and fast and like Ed01 said there is no time to train, rest and get fit.

Moral of the story? ALL teams will struggle this season at diff. times and it will just depend on when that period comes. Do you want to take your lumps now or much later? For me, I'd rather take my lumps now and power thru them hoping things will get better.

Oh one more thing; Villa were being hailed for their start to the season and rightfully so well, till they got pumelled by Patrick Bamford and Leeds. There is NO team that will escape a hammering or a period of struggle this season, IMO. this season.

you have it right, Red, every team will struggle at some point, this is were having a fit, big squad comes in, and some Luck,
I have a feeling Jota will be banging them in for us very soon, maybe Bobby might be rested, and different formation .
I have Bamford in my Fantasy footy team . 14 points .

Ajax struggled today. Must be that CL hangover from us beating them.

Well the league is Everton villa and Leeds atm.
