Thoughts on tonight’s game:

Not the best performance by any stretch of the imagination but we managed to grind it out and get the win in the end. It was a very scrappy game with few chances for either side but West Ham have been in decent form of late so it’s a banana skin avoided!

I absolutely love firmino but I think he needs a few games out of the team, I don’t know whether it’s tiredness due to the lack of pre season or just a lack of confidence but his game isn’t there right now and hopefully a few games on the bench and a rest will get his game back to where it needs to be.

Jota looks like yet another shrewd signing for both Liverpool and Klopp. The lad looks like he’s brimming with confidence and I like that he didn’t let the disallowed goal get to him and went and got the winner with a beautifully taken goal! Looks like a star in the making and a huge bonus to have him in the squad, especially with firmino’s lack of form!

Regarding the VAR decision, all I can say is if it takes 5 minutes to decide whether or not it’s a foul, then it’s clearly not a clear and obvious error! I wasn’t completely against VAR when it was first brought it but it’s clear now that’s it’s not working and needs to be scrapped because it’s sucking the joy out of the game!

I thought the young lads played brilliantly. Phillips looked like he’d been playing premier league football for years and jones seemed to be everywhere.

Hopefully we take it up a gear against Atalanta midweek because they can be a very dangerous team!

The VAR decision didn't get me down too much as I'd already decided it wouldn't be given. Luckily Jota done it again for us. What a signing he's turning out to be. The form of Firmino is slightly worrying. I've never judged him on his goals more on his ability to bring the other 2 in to play. But his impact seems to be waning. Hopefully it's his trademark slow start to the season and he'll kick on.

To be fair its hard to create when teams start the game parking 2 buses. I think this is where thiago will really help unlock teams. Bobby is at his best when he has space which is only created when teams actually play football against us. Hopefully thiago will be fit against city.

{Ed025's Note - maybe teams should be ordered to attack when they play liverpool scarface, or be deducted points..

Trademark slow start to the year more like mate. He’s not been his usual self since 2020 began.

31 Oct 2020 21:23:42
But that's the thing RSF- it seems like teams have sussed out that's the best way to play against us and take their chances that will inevitably come their way. Perhaps a new system is needed? Feels a bit naff suggesting that after we won again but it might be an idea.

To be fair to Firmino, it’s noticeable that since the last season resumed particularly, more and more teams are coming up with tactics to thwart Bobby’s play, often sending someone with him when he drops deeper.
The massed ranks of West Ham players in the final two thirds of their own half just meant it was virtually impossible for him to thrive tonight.
Anytime he dropped deep, West Ham sent someone to track him.
Jesus, pay per view watching Moyes’ teams? Ten bob a game.

The end of the day only villa was the only game lfc deserved to lose. Ev game if var was actually working, Pickford would of been sent off Pickford and lfc would of gone on to win.

Not a terrible especially since injuries but it’s going to be one of those seasons, having a habit to find a result when not quite at there best is good to have up your sleeve.

Firmino will get plenty of space against City. He will have his best game of the season against them.

Mikey so Bobby starts and Jota stays on the bench in your eyes?

31 Oct 2020 23:49:17
Yeah absolutely JK.

01 Nov 2020 00:35:22
Yes jk Bobby starts. Everyone else sometimes it’s hard to beat teams with 9 defenders. We did though don’t care how scrappy it was the result is what counts.

01 Nov 2020 02:10:47
Bobby has to be dropped in my opinion, I love him but he just isn't one of our best 11 right now, whereas Jota is.

Shaqiri also played himself into the first 11.

Bobby starts, especially against city and and atalanta. Definitely the city game. Perhaps jota could be given the start for atalanta. But jota best position is probably lw, mane's spot, not Bobby's. And if Bobby is rested I think salah may be wanting to play in the middle.

Cheers for the reply Mikey. Was genuine question.

Scouse John you’re correct mate it is hard to beat a team of 9 defenders but Jota played a big part in beating that team for us. Not sure if you believe Bobby did as well?

Ed025 - 2 great ideas there in your reply to RSF!

{Ed025's Note - im a forward thinker and sage KBL.. :)

Yeah it's tough because jota has earned himself a start but I think starting CF in Firminos place might not be effective in getting our front 3 firing. Jota has been able to impact games when we've shifted our approach in game but when we've started him and struggled to create in games he has performed no better than Firmino. But his ability to change the tempo from Firmino has been effective. I'd start firmino in that type of game where 10 men are sat deep to give no space. These are the fixtures that he enjoys his best games.

Har I don’t think any right minded fan wants Jota to start at Centre forward. For me he comes in on the left and Mane and Salah alternate through the middle. Has Jota a tuilagi started a game with Mane and Salah. Judging Jota’s starts whilst playing alongside Minamino and Origi is a little bit of an unfair comparison.

Bleef, I disagree. Teams have been parking the bus against us for years even in Rafa’s days. No wheel has been invented nor reinvented here. What Klopp has done is he has found multiple ways of breaking teams down and you don't get to where we are without the ability to break teams down on such a regular basis.

Now does that mean it will work every time? No as even City struggled with WH doing it and could not break them down yet we did. As long as we remain focused and keep moving the ball quickly and piling the pressure on constantly, we will be successful.
