A player stutters up to a penalty the keeper moves and saves but is adjudged to have been off the line. So with penalties all the advantage is with the taker. The keeper moves he is punished and if he leaves it too long to move it's an easy penalty for the taker. The only solution is to ban play acting in the run up to the penalty?

In my opinion on penalties, even if the keeper is off the line, you should score every single time more or less.

24 Nov 2020 17:52:24
I totally agree, Rudder. The prime culprit is obviously Fernandes. The first pen he took in Premiership I thought that isn't right, and he's scored 200 since!

It's a penalty because the defence has fouled an attacker in the box, shouldn't the attacking team have the advantage?

They do thunderbird, they get a free shot on goal from 11 m away, with just the keeper to beat. Its called a penalty.

Mikey, so why are people complaining that the goalkeepers are at a disadvantage then? Why should the goalkeeper have any advantage?

24 Nov 2020 21:18:53
They don't have an advantage, their job is to try and save a kick from 12 yards out. The keepers should be allowed to do whatever they want to try to save the penalty. If the penalty taker can't score from 12 yards then get someone who can!

It’s hard work saving penalties, anyone who’s played in goal knows that extra step forward can make a whole world of difference. I always used to take a step forward just before they kicked and dive at a forward angle to narrow their scoring angle. Had a pretty good save ratio if I say so myself. Can’t do it now obviously.

Thunderbird, most cases now are it's a pen when someone has a ball lashed at them from 2 metres and it strikes their hand!

25 Nov 2020 00:12:53
Goal keepers have been shaking the cross bar for years to put players off and get an advantage. There’s nothing new about. Just because the peno taker is trying put the keeper off there a fuss made now.

John Aldridge was stuttering his run up 30 years ago. People on here only have a problem with it now because it’s a Manchester United player that does it.

Rome 1977 - This is the biggest issue now, imo. With the increasing influence of technology on the game and thus more by-the-book officiating, penalties are becoming far too severe a punishment for many offences. The ball striking a player’s hand from a cross resulting in a free goal 76% of the time is just nonsensical.

Agreed Thunderbird.

Spot on, Thunderbird. This is a non issue, to me. It is a penalty and the rules governing the way a GK should act on his line and the way the penalty taker should act when taking the pen, are fine with me. Don't know what the fuss is all about. As for the hop/ stutter steps by Fernandes before taking his penalties, Jorginho at Chelsea was doing it way before BF arrived. Still does it till this day and I did not hear anyone complain back then. So if no one complained back then well, why are people complaining when someone else does it?

25 Nov 2020 14:43:07
Thunderbird, Aldo's penalty style was also wrong. I just use Fernandes as an example. All penalty takers should simply just run up and strike the ball, seemlessly. End of, in my opinion.

25 Nov 2020 14:45:15
RM, I'm consistant. Jorginho's pens are wrong, in my opinion, as is Fernandes. I would be saying the same if our pen taker had a stuttered run up. It's not due to my dislike of anything Man U that I mentioned Fernandes, simply because he seems to have taken more pens than anyone since he's been there.
