Interesting suggestion coming out in both TV commentary and on these pages. That VAR should be used at normal real time speed in having a second look. Looks reasonable enough until you realize that then you should stop using the lines on frozen frames for offside calls too because that too would never be visible in real time by the assistant referees. So what do you need and use VAR for?

Instead of going deeper and deeper into complications, I think it's time to go backwards. Would having VAR as an option to be used only at, and by the referee, at his request, work better?

We need to suck it up and crack on, Salah got a pen against West Ham just like Welbeck pen today.

Mighty reds, the Salah penalty was originally awarded by the referee, the Welbeck one was not, there is a difference.

So if both decisions end up in penalty its consistent.

Mighty Reds, it is this type of defeatist and self righteous attitude that has brought officiating to its knees in England. Hence becoming the skunk of Europe regarding officiating standards or lack thereof.

First off, you are wrong as Salah’s penalty was a clear pen and the ref awarded it instantly and the WH player looked guilty as sin as there was contact. Here, Welbeck and Robbie went for the ball, missed it hence, incidental contact.

He then slumped to the ground hence, dived after running 2/ 3 yards to get the ref’s attention. To make things worse, none of the BHA players appealed so pls, stop telling others to suck it up just cos some of us disagree with you.

This isn't about which club being effected anymore. It is happening across all teams. The sad thing is it is literally changing the game we grew up watching to something that is no longer entertaining. 7 out 10 games the talking points are VAR, you can no longer celebrate a goal incase VAR found away to rule it out for the smallest margin.

The wellbeck incident was just silly today. He took two more steps, then screamed and fell to the floor. If a foreign player does that the press lead with so and so play acts to win a pen. The fact Hendo said after the game that even Wellbeck himself admits it was never a pen says it all.

mighty red it is not consistent because when Fabinho won the ball against Sheff Utd Var give the pen for being in the box but did not over rule the ref fpr given the foul. At 1-0 to Villa when Salah was fouled the Var did not give the pen because it was not clear and obvious. Var is not there to Referee the game but it seems to on sum decisions in sum games but not all. If any of the Eds think am picking on decisions against us they just the ones I can remember from this season. But I think fans could take the odd wrong decision over the season but there seems to be really bad decisions every week compared to maybe 1 a month. Referees seems to make worse decisions with the help of Var. For me Var is just there to take away the Refs get for very bad performances for people that are getting payed a stupid amount of money with the top refs getting payed £100k a year before they even get payed per game.
