I’ve been thinking about the rules and wondered what you guys though about this:
1) fouls outside the box can be given as penalties if it is denying a goal scoring chance.

2) there should be something in place so where small fouls in the box, are penalised but not by a penalty. I play hockey and any time the ball touches a foot it’s a foul no matter what.

Trust me it’s harder to move your feet out the way than hands but it is accepted. It’s only a penalty though if it’s on the goal line and denies a goal. Otherwise I ‘short corner’ is awarded, essentially like a free kick with limited defenders allowed back. Whilst I’m not saying this, I don’t see why we can’t have something like a blocked cross with an arm (accidentally) should be a free kick outside the box, in line with the offence.

Deliberate handballs and blocking shots are still penalties. Same with tiny fouls when there is no direct chance, free kick not penalty. I think it’s so harsh to basically award a free goal when there was no chance.

And would get rid of this whole handball argument - if it hits your arm (unless pinned against your side) it’s a foul, but not a penalty, unless of course it’s deliberate or prevents a goal.

What do you think?

Think point ones silly, plus I don’t know how a penalty from 30 yards would be much use to some players anyway.

I think with the sheer amount of stupid handballs given, unless it’s an obvious goal scoring opportunity we should be giving indirect free kicks though, some of the hand balls have been farcical.

The problem with football now is that the laws of the game are getting too complicated. What you're suggesting would only make it worse. Where do you draw the line with a "little foul"?
VAR has been a disaster and I'm sure nearly all agree it should go. There was a twisted pleasure on a Monday morning, arguing with friends and colleagues about controversies in the match, for and against your team.
Lets get back to keeping it simple and get the love and excitement back into football.

Sailor Jerry, I meant the foul outside the box would result in a penalty inside the box.

What you mean you can’t have a 90 yard penalty haha.

I think a penalty should be awarded every time contact is made to an opponent in the defending teams half. sorry but point one is ridiculous, there is already an abundance of daft penalties being awarded without your suggestion.

At the moment, the rules can be written any which way. As long as they remain subjective all it does is change the margin, rather than redefine it. I thing point 1 would lead to more confusion and inconsistency.

Similarly point 2 I do like it and refs can award an indirect free kick inside the box for some things. Maybe they could broaden use of indirect free kick for every handball and then the ref call a pen for the deliberate ones. I like ot but again it's just another margin that will be inconsistent each game.

Sorry OP, I am not in favor of either of your suggestions as either one would make football even more complicated than it already is.

Stop tinkering with the rules, i say. Leave the beautiful game alone without trying to iron out every crease.
