Hey Ed's and reds
I think this season it has been so obvious that gini is our most consistent midfielder
Is it past the point of no return with gini . I think it's a shame he's due to leave been a great player for us and a massive part of the winning squad . Will surely be missed .
Who would be the ideal replacement?
Frenkie de Jong for me but I realise that's impossible

Cheers.

{Ed002's Note - Marco Grujic.}

It’s a shame he’s not getting regular minutes at Porto, was hoping a full season on loan including champions league might make or break his future at Liverpool.

Just not well planned out during the summer as per with all our players we are looking to move on!

Seen some Gini stats earlier.

Most wins in first 200 competitive appearances.

133: Gini Wijnaldum
131: Alan Kennedy
126: Gary Gillespie
123: Steve McMahon
122: Ian Rush

According to the
CIES Football Observatory only 12 outfielders across world football have clocked more minutes for club and country than Robertson this year, with the left-back on the pitch for 4,049.
Meanwhile, Wijnaldum has played 3,957, which ensures he sits 24th in the list, with Liverpool one of only three clubs to have more than one player feature in the top 25.

Stats can easily be manipulated but both these are impressive.

Interesting post JK.
I’m like a broken record, keep saying that I hope something gets sorted with Gini to stay.
I could understand if the club chooses not to but I hope a compromise can be reached.
Don’t see Grujic as a replacement (yet another) for him either, though I’m not opposed to him returning as such either.

I want Gini to stay.

If he were to leave though I think Youri Tielemans would be a good replacement. Think he would be pricey though!

I would love too see Marko Grujic to get a chance at the club.

I’m with Barry.
Why did he not stay at Berlin where he was getting regular games and playing well?

22 Dec 2020 21:36:53
I don’t think Gruijc has a chance anymore, it’s all about Curtis Jones.

I have never been a fan of Gini. But he plays in almost all our games and we are winning all the time.

I say sign him. Why rock a winning boat.

Give Gini a 4 year contract and whilst the youngsters get up to speed, then sell him after 3 years.
This way we will not have to spend money replacing him in Jan and also get some money when we sell him and gives us time to look for a proper replacement.

He wouldn’t have any re-sale value in 3 years time kit, but he hasn’t now either.
Gini, with Henderson, are the dynamos of the midfield, which is why I said I don’t feel that Grujic would be a direct replacement. I’m not sure that Jones is either.
I get the point that Gini may not play in a first choice midfield but that first choice has never played together yet. There are always going to be chops and changes, and a drop-off in quality, but this is where Gigi’s high work rate is so valuable.
If we let him go, it means another midfielder coming in IMO.
Maybe the lack of cash flow will work in his favour, if he re-signs at least the club can budget over the next 3 or 4 years for it?

With Fab at centre half for this season at least then the first choice midfield that people are assuming has changed. And in my opinion that means Wiji is part of this seasons strongest first choice midfield when fit and that is Wiji, Hendo and Thiago.
