Happy new year to all,
A bit of context needs too be made in regards our position,
8 first teamers at 1 point out.
Gomez and VVD out for season. Allison injured at one point.
Thiago out for 3 month.
Playing 4 youth players for 1/ 2 season.
Taking all the above into account we should actually be over the moon to be 1st and in the running for the rest of the season .

Agree9 Disagree0

Can’t disagree with much of that pal 👍🏼.

The man utd v villa game is poor so 3 questions to ask no 1 is why does grealish get away with those shin guards surely there's not much protection there no 2 when was the last time the 6 second rule regards keepers was enforced a d 3 why do penaltys not get taken correctly it's meant to be 1 continuous moved no pauses or no stutters answers please or rather opinions.

Shin pads or not every time grealish gets the ball round the box he is extremely dangerous .

Whilst I agree with the sentiment, I think where it falls short is when you consider who we’ve dropped points to. You would think we would do much better against teams like Brighton, Fulham, West Brom, Newcastle etc regardless of the injuries. On the flip side our form against the top sides has been really impressive but it always has for me. I just think this season we’ve fallen off in terms of mentality and the inconsistent performances are testament to that. They aren’t as hungry for the league this season, and I think that’s a common thing with modern footballers, unless you’re playing at the very pinnacle I. e Madrid, Barcelona then certain players will always look to the new challenge and it happens far quicker nowadays than before. Watching the United game right now makes for depressing viewing, because they look to have the momentum, against some good teams as well. Let’s hope their form against the big boys is their undoing, but anyone that doesn’t take everyone else seriously is overestimating us.

Although we are top I don't like the fact they are on same points.

Time will tell and I hope I don't have to eat my words, they won't win anything with him at the "wheel"

01 Jan 2021 22:29:08
We can't use injuries as an excuse every team as them, it was a managerial mistake not to by a CB in the summer.

01 Jan 2021 22:44:53
Here’s some more context, we’re top of the league. I really cannot understand all this moaning and justification of why we’re not playing at our best. As the Ed’s have said this season was always going to be topsy turvy, but the fact of the matter is we have one of the best teams on world football and we are top of our league and in knockouts of Europe. so we should all be happy, lest we forget the dark days of Hodgson era.

01 Jan 2021 22:58:14
I was just making the point for us to be were we are is hard to imagine after the misfortune with injuries . If we aren't good enough we won't win the league simple.
As for our rivals I think man United's squad overall is stronger than ours and they look serious, it remains to be seen if city can up there game . The respect has to be there for our rivals or we will be in for a rude awakening.

It at 1 pen a game for Man Utd this season? It is unreal the amount of penalties they get!

01 Jan 2021 23:23:44
People need to rememeber that if City win their two games in hand they are right back in it as well, this isn't a two horse race by any stretch.

01 Jan 2021 23:33:46
We ain’t winning anything this season. Injuries have caught up with us and we look shot.

01 Jan 2021 23:56:53
Kman92, I disagree. You say our boys aren’t as hungry as the season before. Well if that was the case, the case, they would have packed it in as soon as VVD and Gomez got injured and be done with it but they are still here and top of the league. NO team could go thru what happened to us and still b top. Not City, Utd or anyone so that argument goes out the window.

Secondly, we are dropping points to lower teams but you do not account for the fact that these things are happening to other teams as well cos even Utd struggled against lower teams at the beginning of the season so the bumpy ride is the same for everyone top club.

Ed01 has said from jump that it would be a rollercoaster of a season due to the C.V. and that wierf results will happen and we are seeing it so if you want to judge us based on a normal season then, you judgment is flawed. Just my opinion.

If you read my post properly red meister, you will see why I discount the injuries as much as I do. Yes it’s amazing that we are in the position we are in, but how can you bemoan injuries being a problem when you beat the likes of Chelsea, spurs, Arsenal, Leicester etc and drop points to the likes of Brighton, Fulham, West Brom etc, it makes no sense. If injuries were such a huge factor we would be more likely to drop points in the bigger games for the simple fact that we don’t have our best players to out play another good team. However, this is incorrect, the team play at a much higher level against the big boys than they do against the lesser teams, and that for me is a mentality issue. That’s a hunger issue, they should be bringing it every match, we saw what they were capable of last season and it’s nowhere near that this season. We’ve been lucky not to lose more games. Maybe that is testament to the C.V., but that doesn’t discount my point, maybe that has contributed to them being less motivated. Time will tell, we can go back and forth but we will find out in the next 4-5 games or so, if we let the pressure get to us then we have our answer. If not and we remain top and strong arm united out of the way like we did spurs then I am left with egg on my face. I’m not a half glass full person clearly, but I respect what we are doing, my problem only lies with that fact that we’ve lost points to relegation fodder and that’s a big problem if you’re competing for the title. To not question that would be naive in my opinion.

Also when you say united have dropped points to lesser teams, I actually think the major bulk of their dropped points has been against top teams, they’ve done much better than us against the lesser teams. They’ve dropped points to city, Leicester, Chelsea, Arsenal, spurs. The only lesser team they’ve dropped points to as you remark is Crystal Palace and that was right at the beginning of the season and they didn’t drop points to any other lesser teams. Everyone is inconsistent but we’re dropping points to the worst teams imo out of the teams that are competing for the title.

{Ed001's Note - how have we been lucky not to lose more games? It is quite the opposite, we have outplayed almost every team we have faced and should have won almost every game. The problem has been that our finishing has not been clinical.}

02 Jan 2021 11:16:55
Some interesting points made above but I have to agree with Ed.1 in that our finishing has been the issue with us dropping points. In almost every game we've created very good chances but not been clinical. It's time for the players go shopping online and order some shooting boots.

Happy New Year to everyone!

02 Jan 2021 12:53:53
Totally agree ED that our finishing has been well below par which would have served us well in certain games. I feel like against city we were relatively lucky not to have lost, if they had scored the penalty I couldn’t see us scoring after in that game, against Fulham as well I think we were lucky to get a point, we dominated the possession in that game but created very little in terms of genuine chances and equalised through a penalty. Those are the games I would say we were lucky not to lose but that’s just my opinion. Equally we should have won games that we were robbed of against Everton and Brighton but it is what it is.
