Ed can gini sign a renewal anytime?

{Ed001's Note - yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

15 Jan 2021 12:48:09
But I don't think that it's going to happen. What you think Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - seems very unlikely to say the least.}

15 Jan 2021 13:03:42
It's a shame Keita hasn't stepped up. Otherwise we wouldn't be worrying about Gini's contract situation.

15 Jan 2021 14:04:44
Very true IB.

15 Jan 2021 14:54:50
Keita is never going to step up, hasn’t looked likely to since he joined. Made of crisps and doesn’t look half the player that Gini is, the occasional flash isn’t enough. And that’s not even going into the trouble that follows him.

{Ed0666's Note - well said mate

15 Jan 2021 15:26:15
I’d love him to prove me wrong but he’s done nothing. He’s got to go, if we can find a buyer.

15 Jan 2021 16:35:44
And if/ when Wijnaldum goes, we're waving goodbye to a midfielder who is still at his peak, one of the key men in the Dutch national side and evidently good enough to be of interest to Barcelona. That leaves us hoping someone else (Jones, Ox, Minamino or Keita) steps up, although I don't think any of them are the same type of midfielder, or spending a large amount of money on somebody who can come in ready-made and make the same sort of contribution.

Plus Milner probably looking at just one more year, and Henderson moving into his thirties.

Of course, I've no idea of the exact situation and what exactly the gap is between what Wijnaldum wants and what the club is prepared to offer, but I have to say I don't understand this one. That said, I certainly don't have any doubts or concerns about how the club has managed outgoings and incomings generally so I'm happy to trust them. Having built this brilliant team, and having done a great job with transfers (in and out) in the process, we are approaching, in the next year or two, a key juncture in terms of how the team is gradually refreshed.

Let gini go. Decent player, hardly world class. Much more to him than he shows 80% of the time.
He is replacable in my opinion.
Keita should be shown the door. eds how long was the contract we gave him when we bought him? And just out of curiosity what was his best position at rb leipzig?

{Ed001's Note - 2023 I think. He played central midfield, in the same role Milner etc play for us but with much more freedom as they don't worry so much about defending in the Bundesliga.}

15 Jan 2021 17:54:06
Naby Keita has been a shocking signing. From the moment we signed him then loaned him back it was a disaster.

15 Jan 2021 17:57:27
Cheers Ed. bundesliga buys looking shocking in premier league recently. Still wouldn't mind seeing lewandovski in a Liverpool shirt one day though. Whose the best German players to play in prem in every ones opinion. Hamman Ballack Klinsmann were class.

15 Jan 2021 17:58:24
ED001, is there still hope for Keita in your opinion or is it time to cut our losses and get what we can for him just to free up space and wages for another new midfielder?
Personally, I'm not comfortable with Keita being the solution to Gini's departure. I'd say let both go and sign Bissouma, Konrad Laimer or someone of that ilk.

{Ed001's Note - should have let him go a year ago. He doesn't want to make the effort. Keita is not the solution, he is a fringe player now, Thiago is the replacement and he is a damn fine one.}

15 Jan 2021 18:01:06
Wants the lifestyle and trimmings but doesn't put the effort in. he can't really be injured that often. Same for matip. I like matip but its becoming a farce. its like having Daniel starring all over again.

15 Jan 2021 19:27:21
Is Klopp too loyal to his players? In respect of not cutting ties if a player doesn't make the grade, ie Keita?

{Ed001's Note - no he had to buy a replacement first and he did that this summer but there was no chance of selling Keita then.}

15 Jan 2021 20:11:51
Matip doesn't put the effort in?
I've read some garbage on here, but that one takes the biscuit.
I doubt there are any of out first team players you could fault with lack of effort, they simply wouldn't get in the team.

15 Jan 2021 21:12:07
I’m with you there flash. Some people know football and some people know f**kall.

16 Jan 2021 07:17:44
When do really expect us to sell Keita then Ed001? There don't seem to be any viable buyers for the player and if there are, we are talking about letting him go for less than half of what we paid for him. What we paid for him could actually be the reason the club decides to hold on to him for the long run, which imo is a huge mistake.
If an offer of around 20-25 million euros comes around, I say we take it and run. Its also his enormous 6 million pounds a year wages we are getting rid off in the process.

{Ed001's Note - I can't see how we can hang on to him past this summer as his contract will be running down then and his value will just drop further.}

16 Jan 2021 11:04:02
Flash. the effort comment was meant about keita not matip. I'd love matip to stay and play week in week out but its very unlikely to happen.

16 Jan 2021 13:14:41
Keita has disappointed me and frankly, he should b let go bowed cos he lacks effort on and off the pitch. We have people here wanting Minamino gone even tho the guys gives his all every single time he plays and has only been here a year so that logic should be applied to Naby even more so, and this is coming from a huge Naby fan.
