I'm I the only one confused by the penalty decision? Ashley Barnes got to the ball first, took his shot unimpeded, then tripped over Alison, who had dived out. If you are going to call that a penalty then earlier in the half, Mane got into the box, took his shot that ended up in row z but was then taken out by a sliding tackle by a Burnley defender. I'm not being a bad loser, If one is a penalty, then both are. In my opinion neither were.
Thought we were dreadful last night by the way and can't complain about the result.

Bobby I’ve said exact same thing further down. If Barnes nicks it’s passed Allison it’s a different story but he’s hit hit into the stand.
{Ed001's Note - there is a big difference between the 2. In Mane's case, he just got took out after the shot. In Barnes' case, he deliberately drops his legs into Alisson to buy a penalty, in other words he dived. It was clear and obvious to see his leg drop into Alisson, meaning he created the contact and so the foul should actually have been awarded to Liverpool. It is the exact same cheat that Zaha and Grealish do multiple times every game and still get given the decisions because the officials in England are absolutely clueless.}

Ed001 I 100% agree with that. I didn’t mention the fact he’s dived as I don’t want to sound like a sore loser. For me the fact he’s kicked the ball past Allison and out of play is the reason there should be no pen regardless of if there’s then a dive or contact.
{Ed001's Note - it is nothing to do with being a sore loser when it is true. He clearly dived. It was as blatant a dive as you will see and he does it all over the pitch. Barnes main skill is to buy free kicks for fouls he commits. Such as when he backed into Matip and got a free kick that should have been given the other way. Or when he smashed into Fabinho at half-time, kicked out twice, but Fabinho was the one that got booked. At the very least they both should have been booked or neither. They didn't even look at Barnes' actions on VAR, which is bizarre as his leg twice kicks out. The first kick is at the same time as Fabs', which could have been both of them trying to gain balance and the legs tangling, due to the collision. Hard to tell from the pictures, but the second swing cannot be put down to balance. It didn't connect, but the laws of the game do not state contact has to be made, just like it doesn't state that every bit of contact has to be a foul.}

I have to say JK I thought the same. What I will say though is you see that all of the time. If a keeper rushes out and misses the ball the attacker will always initiate contact and more often than not get a pen.
If it happens in a tackle after a shot it’s rarely a pen. I don’t know why. It’s just another inconsistency that our completely inept referees churn out week in week out.
All VAR has done is given them something to hide behind.
{Ed025's Note - lets not make this about poor refereeing guys, the fact is you never did enough to win the game and played poorly, but that happens and you have to suck it up im afraid..

I feel like if it wasn't given as a Penalty. VAR would not have overruled it. All we can do is move on. No point dwelling about it. Every team has bad runs of form from time to time.

Exactly ed1, he knocks the ball way out of play and you see his knee’s go as he falls into Allison, it was blatant. I’d go so far as to say I am 100% certain that Salah or Mane wouldn’t have been awarded that as a pen. I give up with VAR.

Ed25, you’re right. We can’t blame the refereeing for our poor form. Facts is facts, we did not play well and blaming the referee is just an excuse and distraction.

Ed25 I think you’ll see from my post I wasn’t moaning. I was more accepting the way it is even though it’s obviously wrong. You see those pens given against keepers all of the time but if it’s a defender making that same challenge you don’t. It’s just the way it is. I don’t know why but it just is.
{Ed025's Note - it just seems that way when its happening to our own team BP, the whole standard of officiating is poor to be honest but its across the board and we are all victims of it mate..

ED025 you’re right, we didn’t play well enough to win but we didn’t play bad enough to lose. You have to admit that that should never have been a penalty, even ED001 agrees. In fact Barnes should have been booked for a red card, for kicking out at Fabinho and then diving to get the penalty. and that’s based on the rules of the game. Unfortunately the quality of refereeing in the epl is shocking.
{Ed025's Note - im 50/50 on the pen BP as i have seen them given annd at times not, he trailed his leg thats for sure but there was contact, your right about the refereeing though mate its abysmal..

Ed01 and jk23 you are bang on. It was never a pen, Barnes clearly drops his foot to make contact with Allison. Mane is clearly fouled, doesn’t matter the ball has gone, as many pens have been given in the same way. No use anyone denying this. Nobody is trying to blame the refs for us losing or getting draws we can sort that, but those decisions count, and they are going against us.
