Hi eds1
I was just wondering back when Michael Owen left us to join Real Madrid on a free did we offer him a new contract or did he just want to move. Am just interested in what happened at the time.

{Ed001's Note - he didn't move on a free. He did ask to leave.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I remember we had to accept a low transfer fee and some useless winger.

{Ed0666's Note - did we get Riera? I could be wrong my memory’s not the greatest.

23 Jan 2021 22:44:04
I think it was Gomez, the winger.

{Ed0666's Note - could of been was such a long time ago without googling it I couldn’t be sure.

Scored in has debut, then was poor.

Hi Ed 0666 I think it was Nunez that was thrown in.

{Ed0666's Note - Thankyou Alsky.

£6million and Antonio Nunez for Michael Owen. I think Nunez had a worse injury record than Owen, I don't remember him playing too much although I do think he scored in the League Cup final against Chelsea.

{Ed0666's Note - bloody hell how do you crazy kids remember all this?

23 Jan 2021 22:52:17
We got Nunez, he was magnificent, a winger better with his head than his feet.

23 Jan 2021 22:55:01
Antonio Nunez, though I heard he was actually a separate transfer as opposed to being included in the deal for Owen. He was abysmal anyhow.

{Ed0666's Note - I don’t understand how Owen is revered by some Liverpool fans? He was all about himself. We should have got crazy money for him and got peanuts. He ran down his contract and then went to play for Man United. I mean WTF?

23 Jan 2021 23:09:23
Agree with you Ed0666, does he really enjoy looking at those medals he won by being a bit part player at Manchester United? He was so desperate he was on a pay per play contract!

{Ed0666's Note - he may be a nice guy and a good human being but everything about that guy makes me wanna heave.

24 Jan 2021 00:27:20
He's a weasel he should never ever be associated with the club again😡.

{Ed0666's Note - Domt forget he’s the single most useless and boring pundit on any tv station covering any professional sport on any planet. I mean they should bottle him and sell him as a cure for chronic insomnia.

24 Jan 2021 02:15:08
Ed0666 - apparently he’s far from a nice guy to boot. Though it must be two decades ago now, Ed001 has mentioned that Owen used to play card games with younger players, encouraging them to stake money they couldn't really afford to lose. (I hope my account of that is correct! )
To me, that is evidence of an individual lacking in shame and self-awareness.

{Ed0666's Note - I don’t need any more reasons not to like the guy Lowell

Should have sold Owen aged 20 for 30 mil and kept Fowler forever.

{Ed0666's Note - Owen at 20 was on fire mate. Got to give him his dues.

Heard the hatred for Mo before and it's appalling. Short or no memory some of you because as a player for Liverpool Football Club he was magnificent and whatever decisions he made after leaving the club were his own. As a football player he should just ve remembered as a great talent and had you gone to Anfield at the time I guarantee you his name was sang out multiple times during a game. Usually because he had scored. Have some respect and show some class.

I agree Istanbul. I find a lot of it stems from what Ed001 has said, which I have no doubt is true and I have no issue if Ed001 dislikes him, however I find certain posters on this site take what Ed001 says and then make opinions based on that before spouting hatred for a man they have actually never met and probably never will, yet probably all wore a shirt with his name on the back at some time.

Actually guys people have an opinion of him all by themselves. I detest him, for going to play for Man Utd yes, but he is the reason Fowler was sold and I loved Fowler, Owen was fantastic on the pitch when he was about 20, but got worse and blamed his problems on Liverpool for playing him so much when he was young. Great on the pitch for us yes, but truly an odious man.

24 Jan 2021 16:01:14
I couldn't tell you if he was an odious man because i've never met him, just like anyone else on this site! Tell you what though he sure could put the ball in the back of the net and that i can say because i've actually seen it with my own two eyes. Fantastic record for the club.
