{Ed001's Note - hard to say, the MLS is not a league you can really judge players ability to defend in. I have not seen anything much of him, but what I saw did not suggest he was any better than Phillips.}

If we have to make space in the squad then a player swap (albeit probably temporary) seems the obvious outcome. What about an Origi/ Diop exchange🤔.

Ed02, are there any legs to the rumours about getting Saiss from Wolves?

I read Nuno’s comments before or after (not sure) the Palace game about this topic and he mentioned the very same statements word for word (“We have decisions to make. We have to take care of the squad. Saiss was left out, nothing strange” etc. ) as he did when Jota was left out of a League Cup game before he signed for us. Cheers, mate.

Signing someone from the mls is a gamble. Especially as Klopp likes to bleed his new signings in slowly (exception Thiago and Jota) . Hopefully if we do get a new defender they aren’t bled in like Minamino. They will probably get their first game in Gomez testimonial.

{Ed002's Note - Aaron Long (CB) would be an odd choice given the availability of Subotic and his experience and Long only ever having played in the MLS. Marseille and West Ham attempted to sign him a couple of years ago but West Ham gave up because a Work Permit seemed unlikely. The reason Marseille dropped their interest is not for sharing in public. Reading wanted to sign him and Matt Miazga as a permanent pairing and still maintain an interest in Long even though they never struck a deal for Miazga. Lens are concerned about losing one of their CBs and with the start of the MLS delayed have asked after a loan.}

I watched some clips of Long online because i'd never heard of him and he reminds me of Skrtel. He looks like he is very aggressive in terms of stepping forward to make a challenge. Could get exposed in the Prem if he doesn't win the 50/ 50's he goes for.

Also he seems to grapple a lot so cheats like Kane, Fernandes and Grealish will have a field day if he tries to defend that way here. He does look quite quick though so i guess that helps with the high line, and he is also a leader according to what's been said about him.

He's got all the physical attributes if nothing else. Quick, strong, good in the air. His range of passing looks average at best though and there's no way to judge his defensive awareness on videos obviously highlighting his best bits. We just have to trust the scouting network i guess!

Spot on, MK. We are in a desperate situation so if Long is the guy, he must have tucked a decent amount of the boxes on the scout’s sheet even tho, he may not b perfect for our system. Fingers crossed.

In my opinion it was only going to be a player like this. Unless we had the circa £50 million to buy the player of Klopp's choice then it made little sense in forking out any money on a player that would restrict Klopp going after his target in the future. We are in a tough spot but again, let's see how he does for Liverpool before we discard him. He only needs to do well for 4 months i guess.

Rover the frustrating part is why we didn’t bring so called player in on 2nd jan. They could have had a month to get up to speed then ready for the last 4 months of the season. If one does come in now and they need to get up to speed then it’s not really helping our current situation.
