Just to take our minds off tonight's game temporarily. if you could bring into this team just one former liverpool player of premier league era, who would you pick. I'm torn between Sami and Gerrard. We currently now need sami for defense, but could you imagine a Gerrard in his prime in this midfield too.

Agree1 Disagree0

I would pick Robbie, this team needs a clinical finisher.

16 Feb 2021 12:15:15
Torres in his prime for me

🤙.

16 Feb 2021 12:25:01
Virgil Van Dyke.

16 Feb 2021 12:54:28
Mohammed "The King" Salah.

16 Feb 2021 13:04:46
Suarez the player would be perfect in this side.

16 Feb 2021 13:38:15
Who’s Van Dyke Mikey? How can fans get his name wrong, Unforgivable that!

Based on the way we play I would have to say mark lawrensonto be fair. His recovery pace would be a real blessing!

{Ed001's Note - he wasn't in the Prem era mate.}

Rob jones.

Let Trent see if he could move into midfield. I like the idea of two scousers in Trent and Curtis being in the heart of midfield for years to come.

16 Feb 2021 14:13:43
Xabi Alonso for me.

16 Feb 2021 14:23:50
At the moment you've got to go Carra or Sami haven't you for some leadership at the back. But for next season it would have to be Stevie. His drive in midfield and balls to the front men would be something else in this team. Would he cover the fullbacks though? We'd probably have to change the system abit. The rat Suarez in his prime would fit straight in I think play any position in the front 3 goals and assists galore.

16 Feb 2021 14:28:44
I would go for Gerrard. That attitude (which is also there in Hendo now) with the higher quality of players that we now have, would be incredible!

16 Feb 2021 14:39:42
Missed my first post. Xabi Alonso, all day.

16 Feb 2021 14:42:36
As a player? Suarez. as a human? def not.

16 Feb 2021 15:27:31
Just for the sake of change from the usual suspects I’d go Markus Babbel gives Trent a break and pays homage to Houlier but think Dirk would be savage in this team.

16 Feb 2021 15:31:46
Torben Piechnik wouldn't look out of place right now.

16 Feb 2021 16:08:09
T2, really?

16 Feb 2021 16:35:15
The team as is now then definitely Carra or Big Sami. If we were on top form with a full squad then I would go "GOD" simply due to his finishing. He would get an absolute hatful in this side, the chances we create when in top gear, Robbie would be scoring hatties each game. He made scoring every kind of look easy!

You can probably tell but he is my fave player to pull on the shirt!

16 Feb 2021 17:24:42
Oh yeah how did I manage to mess that spelling up lol

To throw another name in the mix though, how about John Arne riise in his prime? As much as I love Robbo, I would love to see Riise on the left in this team.

16 Feb 2021 17:54:03
I know I've picked Alonso already but I want to give a mention to Dirk Kuyt. I think he wouldn't be found wanting in a Klopp team. Absolute workhorse.

16 Feb 2021 18:18:36
@ Mikey - Riise at his peak isn't half as good as Robbo. He actually wasn't that good apart from the rocket launcher of a left foot, imo. And he bulked up a bit after a couple of years here (he was never small, but he was way chunkier looking from 2004 onwards. Too much time in the weights room? ) and then couldn't defend properly cos he was sluggish over the first few yards. Robbo's positioning, passing and crossing is far better.

In terms of pure ability it's hard to look past Gerrard. He would work in our midfield, he's too good not to. But I'd have him only on the condition that Henderson would still be the captain, because he's better at it than Gerrard was imo. Hard to imagine that.

After that it's either Hyypia to shore up the defence or Fowler to bang in goals. I'd take Hyypia ahead of Carra as he's better with the ball and a better reader of the game. So even though he was slower than Carra, I think he'd do better in our high line. Fowler would be my pick of a forward. Aside from the goal threat, his touch and link up play was actually really good and he'd easily dovetail with Salah and Mane. There's an argument for Suarez too, he was certainly flashier than Fowler, but I'd rate them similar on overall ability. But I'd have a personal preference for Fowler.

Got to be Stevie surely? He and Kenny are the best 2 players to ever play for Liverpool.
Others have been good, world class even but these 2 players were a cut above for me.
I honestly believe that if Stevie had played in a team that was winning titles he’d have been a ballon d’or winner multiple times and been known as one of the all time greats. That guy was phenomenal and dragged a very average Liverpool team through many a game on his own.
In this team he’d be unstoppable.

We have a great strikeforce.
We have a great defence (when all fit)
We do not have a dominant central midfielder that can play the strikers in or score from long range.
Stevie Gerrard all day long for me.
