Not Liverpool related but here’s a hard tough question, if you had the chance to sign either mbappe or haaland, who would it be and why?

Agree0 Disagree0

Good question, JK!

I'm totally torn on this one. It kinda depends if the hypothetical situation needs to consider finances too. In which case it has to be Haaland as Mbappe would cost at least double (even this summer with 1 year left) and his wages would probably be at least 3-4 times that which Haaland would come for.

However, Mbappe is certainly more proven given he's been playing at top level for longer.

I'd love to get them both, but if I had to choose, I'd probably pick Haaland. Bobby doesn't seem to be firing on all cylinders, and therefore I think there is more of a place for Haaland than Mbappe right now.

Also, with the saving on transfer fees and wages, we could afford to add someone like Sancho too.

A front line (in a few years time once Salah, Mane and Firmino have left or retired) of Sancho, Haaland and Elliot, with Jota and a (hopefully) improved Minamino would certainly be one I would be confident in.

I honestly think that if Klopp were to leave in 2024 with Sancho and Haaland added to Jota, Elliot and Minamino, Jones firing on all cylinders in midfield, supported by Fabinho (who will be 30/ 31 in 2024) and midfielders yet to come (can't think who at this stage, possibly someone like Rice to help meet HG quota? ), and then our defence still being Robertson, VVD, Gomez and TAA, with backup like Kabak (or one of the other young CBs we have been linked with) Neco on the right, Kostas on the left (albeit haven't really seen enough of him) and Alisson between the sticks with Kelleher waiting in the wings then I will be very pleased.

Who knows, we may see TAA developing into a cross between Fab and Xabi over time, especially if Neco is pushing for a start.

Coming back to the initial question, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Mbappe in a red shirt, but I think the chance went when we were beaten to the punch by PSG a few years ago :- (.

Mbappe cos his all round game is better to Haaland's imo.

I do agree that mbappe is the better all round player and he’ll probably be the biggest star in the world for the next decade but haalands natural goal scoring ability is phenomenal! It’s similar to when Robbie Fowler first broke into the team and it seemed as though everything he hit found the corner of the net, he Very rarely misses the target!

{Ed0666's Note - We talk about Haaland at nauseam in the latest see you next Thursday podcast out tommorow.

Say Salah were to leave I would go for Haaland. That’s purely on what we would have to replace and that’s goals. He is the closest thing I see to matching, exceeding or coming close to Salah’s numbers. We have Jota who can play wide left and a certain Elliot who can eventual take the place of Mane. Mbappe overall is phenomenal but Haaland’s finishing and ability to turn everything he touches into goals is not human for someone his age.

{Ed0666's Note - Elliot prefers to play from the right and would be a Salah replacement. We cannot afford Haaland as there will be an auction. His salary would be stratospheric coupled with his transfer fee I’m pretty sure we won’t be signing Haaland. The caveat to this would be if Salah and Mane were to be sold then only then we would come in to the running. Can you really see FSG (FRUGAL SPORTS GROUP) shelling out for Haaland without major sales?

Mbappe over any player in world football. And it will remain that way for the next 10 years.

With Mbappe comes the commercial gain and extra shirt sales on top of the raw footballing ability. Tough to choose but mbappe I think will prove himself a class apart in 3 years time.

I've not studied Haaland that much, other than the odd highlight reel.

Does his prowess depend more on pace (a la Judas, and so very susceptible to age/ injury) ore more on guile (a la God, and more able to last longer into a creer)?

Just crushed my dreams Ed666 😢 but on a serious note I can’t see us shelling out on one major signing. I don’t want any of our forwards sold but imagine Salah would command the biggest transfer fee out of the forwards. Whether that would cover the transfer fee of the likes of Haaland, I’m not sure. You raised a good point on the wages side of such a move, which got me thinking. Doesn’t Haaland share the same agent as Pogba?

{Ed0666's Note - yes mate they do share the same agent and I’m not sure we’ve ever had any dealings with him. Haaland to Liverpool is a slim to none possibility as mentioned before the transfer fee, agent fee, wages etc would be astronomical. It’s a toss up between who goes between Salah and Mane. Doe we cash in on Salah now as his stock is high and buy Sarr who is good friends with Mane and integrate Elliot, Or do we sell Mane and play Jota on the left. I have no flipping clue mate but I do know this much we need to buy another forward in the summer regardless because Shaq and Divvy are not cutting the mustard and need to move on.

FRUGAL SPORTS GROUP. I like that. Seriously tho, we will need a forward cos Shaq and Divvy may leave with Minamino and Elliott coming back on loan. I personally think that Salah and Mane will stay next season.
