Hopefully it won't happen for a very long time but when the time does come will JK reccomend his successor to the club Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - I would assume he will be asked for his input yes.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Whether or not it's the correct decision or not, i think Gerrard will get the job after Klopp.

19 Feb 2021 15:13:33
Gerrard needs to win the SPL this season, go to the latter stages of the Europa this season and then repeat the same next season.
Then take the reins at a club in the top5 leagues in Europe and do well.
Maybe then he could be the successor to Klopp we will need.
I don't want to see him fail at LFC just because he wasn't ready for the job, like Lampard at Chelsea.

19 Feb 2021 15:21:17
MK if SG is ready then, I am good BUT I am sure he is smart enuff to make that decision cos I am not sure he will take the job if he knows he is not ready.

19 Feb 2021 15:26:15
IB, I agree he should be proving himself, but let's not forget that Kenny took over with no other experience.

Not to say that means Gerrard WILL succeed if he got the job, but that there are circumstances in which he could. He'd be a risk though.

I would have loved it if he had stayed with us and become Klopps AM, but I guess the experience at Rangers will certainly help!

19 Feb 2021 16:59:44
Pep (our pep not city’s) or Nagelsmann for me. I think Gerrard will take the job eventually but no need to rush it, let him cut his teeth elsewhere and come back after he has plenty of experience and a CV to show he’s worthy of the role.

19 Feb 2021 17:36:32
Gerrard tactically was not great as a player, don't see him becoming a good manager, he would take our club back.

19 Feb 2021 17:59:06
Amazing how some people change their views the moment they change their user names. Well it is a banter sight after all. Keep them coming RM.

19 Feb 2021 18:03:15
Provided Rangers win the league this season then SG will have achieved something special.
If he wins the Europa League then he has achieved the impossible.
Klopp and Gerrards contracts both end at the same time and this is not coincidence.
I am pretty sure that SG will not risk his Liverpool reputation by taking the job if he is ready.
I am surprised at the number of people championing Pep's cause considering his poor record at Nijmegen.
Good Assistant does not guarantee Good Manager.

19 Feb 2021 18:06:15
Gerrard when he’s good ready and proven but my god guys a few years away! Not after winning or coming second in a 2 horse race or a little run in the europa!

19 Feb 2021 18:29:21
For me lad's SG has to really prove himself before he is considered for the job.

19 Feb 2021 20:18:40
WYRed Gerrard tactically wasn’t a good player? What football did you use to watch? He could do everything and had one of the most intelligent brains to put the shirt on.
As a manager I’m not sure at the stage but fingers crossed.

19 Feb 2021 20:29:59
I think you have me confused IPC, it was mighty reds that said that about Gerrard.

As for shouting for pep, I do agree his record there wasn't great but he has been learning under klopp and hopefully could continue his work. Maybe its also part of me that would love to see succession and a plan from the club.

We have faltered in the past because we move from pillar to post and each manager has a different style. Your then left with a mismatch of players suited to loads of different styles.

19 Feb 2021 20:30:37
To be fair, Rangers are a huge club to handle the pressures of managing, regardless of the quality of the league. Expectation and rivalry hatred don't get much bigger than at Rangers, and they have a rabid fanbase. He's handled that side of it really well, and has developed an excellent skill in adapting his team's play for Europe, compared to the "dominate games" style of domestic games. Still unbeaten this season, although I will caveat all of that by saying Celtic have been in decline for a good few seasons, they haven't bought well, and Lennon's not been able to get them going.

I was never for Gerrard as manager of Liverpool, but he's showing me he's a talented manager at the moment.

19 Feb 2021 20:51:46
We've all heard about the stories of Gerrard alienating certain players and bullying (along with Carragher) others. How does that kind of personality translate into a succesful manager of a team with different ages, cultures, nationalities and egos? It's a question.

19 Feb 2021 21:04:40
If Gerrard wasn't Gerrard of Liverpool, just Steven Gerrard the random manager who has suddenly lifted Rangers from obscurity to where they are now, I think he would be talked about as an upcoming manager awaiting his next big step. Whether that means taking over a club like us or another PL club I dunno. But it would be the perogative of that club to weigh up his achievements in a less competitive league along with his potential to bring that to a bigger stage.

I think he has shown himself that he is realistic about his management career and that he wants to earn his stripes. He has effectively built Rangers from the bottom-up and I don't think that achievement should be ignored. In another couple years he will just be adding to his credentials, and to be honest I hope he has some adversity to face in that time as that will give him more opportunity to develop himself as a manager

Then you layer in all the stuff we know about him as a Liverpool person and his competitiveness. In a couple years time I think he would be in a perfect position to take the next step in his career to manage Liverpool and that we would also be ready for a young fresh manager to come in and pick up the reigns. I see a lot of synergies for Stevie and would only be excited if it were to happen.

19 Feb 2021 23:50:27
If you took away the fact that he played for us, just forget that for a second. Then imagine all the managers in world football right now, why on earth would you pick Gerrard if Klopp left us in the near future? He wouldn’t even be on anyone’s top 10.

20 Feb 2021 01:03:42
Wish people would use the brain instead of the heart, comparing rangers and the management of Liverpool is ludicrous, I will put it like this, Frank Lampard would win the SPL with rangers.

{Ed0666's Note - Susan Boyle would win the SPL with Rangers mate.

20 Feb 2021 06:18:38
Brilliant Ed666😂.

{Ed0666's Note - there’s more where that came from Barry lad.

20 Feb 2021 10:58:15
If Gerrard was such a good player tactically why was he never trusted in CM for us?

20 Feb 2021 10:58:54
JK, I said if Gerrard is not ready he should not be given the job as he has to prove himself and I stand by that. What changed? Nothing.

20 Feb 2021 16:29:40
"Never" trusted in cm? He played there plenty of times for not just Liverpool but England too didn't he?

{Ed001's Note - Rafa didn't trust him there, but plenty of other managers did.}

20 Feb 2021 16:40:43
To be fair, not every manager has to go around the block before they take a top job. Zidane and Guardiola did all right walking almost straight into the 2 biggest jobs in club football. Dalglish was pretty good when he took over at Liverpool too.

I think what is most crucial is who they surround themselves with. Lampard failed because he surrounded himself with weak characters who also had no experience in the senior game.

Having said all that, Gerrard would not be my choice. I really like the idea of Nuno Esperito Santo at Liverpool post-Klopp. He has done a very good job at Wolves with a very small squad. He's somehow kept them competitive this season despite losing Jota to us, losing Jiminez to injury and losing Traore on his own hype train which he's ridden all the way back to mediocre town!
