Anyone had a look through the promotional videos and planning application for Everton's new stadium?
It's a lovely looking build but its scale on the waterfront, compared to the Liver Buildings, is massive.
Most of the footage and pictures are looking north away from the city centre too, you don't see how it may affect the UNESCO World Heritage views, particularly if it were lit up in the dark.
I'm not surprised that the City Council passed it but it'll be interesting what the Sec of State and UNESCO make of it.

Joe Anderson is an Evertonian and has done everything possible to facilitate their new stadium including using council money to loan to Everton, despite the fact they’re owned by super rich owners. It reeks but so does everything involving business and politics.

I’m no expert on these matters but Liverpool needs all the regeneration and investment we can get, i’m sure it’ll look great. The dock road area is in need of some serious investment and with the frequent expansion of more apartment blocks in some of the old unused warehouses, it could completely change the way it looks in 5 years time. I’m actually quite excited.

The site is at the very north end of the world heritage site.

Given it’s about a mile n half away from princess dock I’d say it would be broadly far enough to not really effect anything.

I’ve no issue with the Council helping to fund the stadium, that’s what they’re there to do - assist the community - and they did help to facilitate the expansion of Anfield.
It’s the potential conflict between this role and its effect on the World Heritage status that seems more of an issue.
The Council passed the giant towers of Liverpool Waters recently and they most certainly would compromise the WH views. If they’re ever built, it would probably result in the WH status being withdrawn.
That indicates that the Council are prepared to gamble on their WH status.
The Bramley Dock site is outside of the WH boundary but within its buffer zone, so it too could trigger a response from UNESCO.
The footprint of the project is also considerable, about twice the size of the Liver Building by comparison.
It would be a huge shame to lose the World Heritage tag but that’s one for the government and UNESCO to ponder over now.

In fairness, Councillor Joe Hansen (who is a Liverpool supporter) is very behind the plans, and as corrupt as Joe Anderson may be, he was very supportive of our plans to redevelop Anfield. Devil’s advocate here, but how about the jobs it’s going to create in the area? Surely that isn’t a bad thing, would be a huge welcome boost after the cluster f*ck that C.V. has caused. Personally I’m not bothered as it doesn’t affect us. They’ll still only have the second biggest stadium in the City, after all .

I think it’ll definitely be a good thing for the city, and the North West in general, but I don’t want it to affect the World Heritage status.
That’s too precious to everyone and should not be a local decision.
I mean, you wouldn’t build a football ground near the Taj Mahal would you?

{Ed001's Note - but it is nothing like the Taj Mahal. There is lots of shiny new buildings around the city centre and waterfront, which this will fit in nicely with. This is not degrading a precious monument, it is enhancing the area.}

Not of that scale though Ed, though the Taj Mahal was an extreme example, lol.
But it’s always a fascinating conundrum, how historical cities develop over time.
I like the build though, looks lovely as a football ground.

{Ed001's Note - they have to move on or they end up just being crumbling ruins that no one can live in. Nice to have old buildings, but you can't just have the old stuff unfortunately.}

Why don't they build it on the Wirral? It's a shame that only one side of the Mersey looks good while the one eyed city is neglected.
