Everton’s new stadium is quite cool being right next to the river like that.
Such a shame global warming and the rising sea levels later on this century will see it slip under the waves long before they ever get to win another trophy to go on the newly built trophy shelf.

Jealous much? It comes to something when you have to belittle a club for building what will be one of the greatest stadiums in the world! Keep enjoying your second-hand stadium!

*Disclaimer: i actually like Anfield, a fabulous ground in a globally historic city. But some posts just need a retort*.

You know what WorcesterEFC, the way I look at it is it’s bringing jobs into the area, boost the local economy and helping redeveloped the area. Good luck to you. But not too much, obviously ;)

Hmm it’s a banter page, not bitter page 😘.

I was reading an article in the Liverpool Business News earlier headlined ‘Everton stadium completely unacceptable say UNESCO’, and it looks as if the Victorian Society and Historic England may object too.
If the Sec of State decides that a planning inquiry is necessary, there will be a major delay in anything happening.

UNESCO are vehemently against the new stadium yes, and Historic England already filed an objection so we all know where they both stand. However, we comprehensively answered all objections to gain satisfaction that we will actually benefit the site. Even the Green Party were won over despite their concerns i believe.
You need to look at the development as a whole and disregard the fact it's a club a lot of you hate - As 6Times touched upon above, the development will create circa 15,000 jobs. That in itself is a huge boost in this current climate.
We have given plans that show development of Goodison Park will become affordable local housing with leisure and youth facilities, a major benefit for the Walton area surely.
The stadium will be superb, meaning the City of Liverpool will have two high calibre stadiums. When/ If England next host a World Cup, both stadiums are bound to be selected bringing massive tourism and spending to the area.
As for UNESCO, they hate the thought of any development at all on the site. The reality though (and no doubt the councillors who approved planning probably believe this deep down) the site as it is now is a sh*t tip. I hate how disrespectful it sounds, heritage status should be a source of pride, but absolutely nobody wants to go there and visit. There is no benefit at all to the city at present. We have pledged many, many millions (something like £50 million if reporting is correct) to developing a dedicated Heritage Center which would actually turn it into a site that would finally attract tourism. How anybody can object to that i don't know.
All said, the economic and social benefits to the city are huge.
You have to move with the times and that means putting sentiment to one side for the greater good, otherwise we'd stay at the Old Lady forever and Liverpool would become a stagnant backwater instead of it's rightful place amongst Englands top cities.

Anyways, enough rambling. I have my fingers crossed you rediscover enough form to move back up the table, just keep one place behind us and it'll be a great end to the season!

{Ed0666's Note - Brilliant Worcester great insight. Has a championship club ever hosted a World Cup game? 😘

I’m not actually against the project WorcesterEFC but I’m interested to see how the planning process plays out.
Playing Devil’s Advocate I can see both points of view.
Coincidentally the revised plans for the redevelopment of the Anfield Road End are out now, and this would see a doubling in the size of the stand’s footprint and height.
You mustn’t underestimate the size of modern stadia.
To put a development of that scale on the waterfront is a huge change which will also create a planning precedent.
And therein lies some of the problem - the waterfront development was supposed to happen in a coordinated manner through an agreed development master plan.
What has happened however, and this is the latest and most telling example, is that numerous smaller individual developments have been agreed piecemeal and that the end result becomes something far removed from the original vision of the entire area.

maybe I'm just a romantic at heart, but I like the old stadiums. the new stadiums look cool but lack the personality. I always like the idea of updating and expanding if possible.
