What sort of line up would you like to see this weekend? For me:

Alisson
Trent
Philips
Kabak
Robertson
Thiago
Fabinho
Jones
Salah
Bobby
Mane

Hopefully Jota on the bench too, maybe come on for the last 20 mins.

I would like to see cbs at cb so a combination of Kabak, Phillips and Davies for the two and think we really need Fab in midfield.

Obviously need to see how Alisson is after his dad passing, some things more important than football.

Thoughts anyone?

Alisson
Kabak, Phillips, Davies
Trent, Gini, Jones, Robbo
Salah, Bobby, Mane

Fabinho and Jota on as subs around the hour mark. Save the other sub for when one of the back three tears their ACL.

Alisson has not had the best couple of weeks recently and with his father's death I'd leave him out and play kelleher (if fit) . I don't think this is the type of game for thiago either so I would play ox instead.

I'm with you Bill, certainly wouldn't look to changing formation.

think davies deserves a chance to see what he brings to the table.

You never want to see a change in formation or tactics. But when you are missing 10 senior players, maybe it's worth considering playing to the strengths of what you have.

Without Gomez, Matip or Van Dijk at the back we don't have the pace or experience to play a high line and leave our defence 2 vs 2. Without Hendo, Milner or Fabinho in midfield we don't have the legs or the power to dominate the midfield physically and press so high.

Bielsa played a 3-3-3-1 the other night and Leeds won 3-0. You don't have to change the whole philosophy to adapt the way you approach games. Trent and Robbo are superb at pressing high. But they can't do it if it will leave us short at the back or draw Phillips or Rhys Williams into defending wide areas against pace.

I personally think it's time to try something new but if Klopp wants to keep playing the same way hoping it'll eventually click, then he's the genius coach who put Liverpool back on the map. So i'll cheer us on regardless.

MK - I read a scouting report that said Davies glides across the turf. Put him in now! lol

on serious note, I agree, play to the strengths of the players available but also give the current players confidence to keep playing. they've played well recently bar mistakes and missing chances. I think they aren't far away, despite at the hurdles thrown at them.

I like your thinking Adam and a change of tactics would be nice to see. I suppose when fabinho plays in midfield we swap between tactics regularly and at times it takes the shape of 3-4-3.

Personally I think Gini needs dropped and would definitely not trust him in a 2 man partnership in the middle. If fabs is fit to play I would put him in the middle with thiago and Jones. A fit and firing fabinho would hopefully give enough protection to kabak and Davies!

I definetly agree, a change in formation is required as the current formation is currently not working.
Drop on of Salah or Mane as we did against Palace.

25 Feb 2021 17:27:24
So we don't have enough time on the training pitch to work on existing tactics but we have time to work on a new formation. Yeah fabulous idea that is.

25 Feb 2021 17:40:09
I would be disgusted if all 3 of kayak phillips and Davies are fit and we play hendo and fab at the back we need to get them in the middle now priority to saving this season.

25 Feb 2021 19:07:11
I know what you're saying Adam but don't believe he'll change formation. I do want to see Fab back in midfield as we do not have the same fluidity without him there. He always protects the cbs so well so would be an extra shield if you like for the new cbs.

I would like to see us set up like that and be a bit more proactive in our games then rather than reactive to the opposition.

Hendo and Fab are injured mate.

25 Feb 2021 19:23:36
Istanbul, formations aren't that critical to tactics. In our best XI we'd normally have Fabinho dropping in to make it a back 3 at times, as Gomez and Van Dijk had to pace to defend the wide areas when Trent and Robbo got caught out positionally at turnovers.

These are pro footballers. They know how to play. It's no harder to coach 3 defenders how to play together at the back, than it is to coach 2 centre mids how to play together at centre back.

If Fabinho and Jota are back i would go

Alisson
Trent Kabak Fabinho Robbo
Thiago Gini
Jota Firmino Mane
Salah

With all the injuries at the back, we are going to continue to struggle defensively, so we can no longer rely on the fullbacks bombing forward to create width. Without Fabinho/ Hendo there to break down counterattacks or cover them defensively, or VVD there clean up, we’re allowing the opposition way more chances to get in behind and score.

Instead I think we need to change shape (as MK suggests) but I would instead go to a 4-2-3-1 so we don’t have to use all our new CBs.

A 4-2-3-1 would allow us to play Salah upfront to create the extra body in the box without sacrificing the width. It would also address Firmino’s lack of goals and allow him to play as more of a playmaker without losing goal threat in behind. Thiago and Gini should be able to control the game as a double pivot with Jones as sub.

If Fabinho is injured I would play Kabak and Philips, and if Jota injured I would play Shaq on the right.

Play the 4 forwards and let’s go smash Sheffield and Chelsea.

{Ed077's Note - Does match fitness not matter SG? Bringing in players back from injury right into the first team after a long injury layoff isnt the best way to handle players rehab I think.}
