I do not want to bash referees but I am watching WBA v Brighton and Lee Mason is shocking. He does not know what he is doing. I have never seen such a mess made over taking a free kick in my life. All down to Mason confusing everyone. He blows his whistle so Dunk shoots and scores, but as Dunk runs up he blows again for some reason before the ball hits the net. He says no goal, then after a minute or so gives the goal, then VAR tell him its not a goal as he blew the whistle twice and so Brighton have the goal chalked off ad retake the free kick. Both benches were confused, the players were baffled. It was bizarre.

English referees are just plain bad. Just go back at the RBL versus Liverpool. That's how referees should be 5th minute there is a foul, someone complained and you could see the referee screaming "I'm the referee Its my decision do not question it again and showed the yellow card. No one ever again questioned him. And the overall quality of the referees was good VAR aswell. Didn't take ages for it to look, no lines, no zooms, no slow motion. Just took a look didn't see a clear and obvious error and the game continues.

Ball was actually just about to cross the line when he blew again. Which somehow makes it even more incompetent.

It was a total embarrassment.

Just seen this for myself.

The ref allows the free kick, which imo he shouldn't of allowed with the keeper hugging his post. He then realises his error and blows again but apparently before the ball hits the net so it should be immediately disallowed.

The issue was straight after he then gives the goal before he's told he can't. A complete mess that could be avoided.

Dunk will get a punishment but that's what happens when you stick a microphone in a players face straight after a game.

VAR and the officials that are operating it are adding an extra level of confusion even for the main ref. They probably got to the right decision by the rule book but an utter shambles to get there.

Please for the love of the game they need to review it at the end of the season.

I’ve been saying this for years.
Anthony Taylor, lee mason, Martin Atkinson - if you think it’s bad watching the likes of the above on tv, try watching them live, it makes your blood boil.

{Ed001's Note - it is incredible how the more experience they gain, the worse they are getting. Something is seriously wrong with a system when people are not learning and improving while doing something.}
