I think a point is probably the best we can hope for on Thursday, dreading if Fab plays Cbk, Gini, Thiago and Jones is not a midfield for big games.

You're not playing a 20 wins out of last 20 games Man City, you're playing an in-transition Chelsea. Did you watch their games against Atleti and Man Utd? Tuchel has made them solid defensively but they are so so toothless in attack I think.
I dont think a draw would be a disaster for LFC but come on MR show some positivity and support}

Ed77 our form as been poor though, other than beating the worst team in the league, we haven't look like scoring against teams who play five at the back.

Fabinho plays and in midfield, then I think we can get something.
Fabinho still injured, or alongside Kabak in central defence, less confident.

Fabinho in midfield we have a chance to win as he gives us some backbone. Any combination of Milner, Gini, Thiago, Keita or Jones is as good as giving Chelsea three points as they’ll have a free run at our defence every time they attack because none of them are any good defensively.

We can beat them. By playing our best centre midfielder (Fabinho) in centre midfielders and by playing two centre backs. That gives us a foundation to play from. I reckon Phillips and Kabak could handle Giroud’s physicality and Fabinho picking up the second ball and dealing with their runners from midfield gives us a chance. Playing Fabinho at centre back as good as hands them the match, no more square pegs in round holes, that’s not being a doom merchant but merely stating an uncomfortable truth that our play has been compromised by playing our best midfielders out of position.

I disagree kabak is not upto it. Milner, Jones, Gini should be a good enough midfield. Even Kante couldn't protect Phillips and Kabak.

I'm more worried about a pairing of Phillips and Kabak than a midfield without Fabinho. As someone said on Sunday- Souness I think- you are only as good as you're weakest link and Phillips and Kabak are our weakest link.

If we start with Milner, Gini and Curtis in all probability we’ll get beaten, simple and plain. Just like we got beaten by Burnley, Southampton, Brighton, Everton and Man City and the equally flaccid performances against Fulham and Newcastle. That midfield offers no protection to the defence and keeper.
Our best and strongest midfield options start and end with Fabinho at the heart of it and a weak midfield loses matches,

Ed77 but Chelsea are not giving a lot away either, we lost our heads away at Leicester when it went to one each rather than play out a draw and accept a point, which in the race for top four you need to do sometimes, so if they gave me nil nil now I would shake on it against Chelsea.

Fabinho in behind Gini and Jones is our best midfield atm. Thiago on the bench in case we are struggling to break down their defence.
Putting Fab in front of Kabak and Phillips increases our defensive capabilities so they have less chance of being caught out. If Fab plays at CB, who is there to help out?
I fancy an efficient win from us 2-0.

Faithinworks our performances have been awful. Weak in midfield, weak in defence and toothless up front combined with shocking individual errors, the results don’t lie and they are a reflection of how poor we have been. Also forgot us getting pumped by Leicester as well. We’ve been awful. No excuses for playing midfielders in defence now.
{Ed077's Note - LFC were very good against Leicester for 70_75 minutes and 2_0 looked more likely than 1_1 before Leicester got that questionable equaliser. And then you guys imploded. The result against Leicester was nowhere near a fair reflection of how that game was IMO.}

You were watching a different game to me. I thought we were very poor against Leicester and it was only a matter of time before they scored as our almost non existent midfield just looked lightweight and like you could walk through it (notwithstanding the fact that it created virtually nothing in an attacking sense) . Beyond Fabinho and Henderson there’s not one other midfielder in the squad who can adequately play in the anchor role in midfield to protect the defence. Not one. All the evidence from recent weeks suggests that our midfield isn’t effective at protecting the defence or creating chances and that playing midfielders in central defence is an easy recipe for defeat.

The Leicester game can be summed up with us having lots of possession where it didn’t hurt Leicester, us barely troubling the Leicester keeper, being weak in midfield, being weak in defence and giving soft goals away. That was not a good performance by any reasonable definition and there were no positives to take away from it other than thankfully the referee blew the whistle before they could a score a fourth. We have been a soft touch since the turn of the year because we’ve been playing our best centre midfielders in central defence and been exposed time and again by more clever opponents.

6Times, the LC game was a game we should have won and were the better team till we gave up a questionable goal and imploded. I don’t expect you to understand cos all you and Mighty Reds do is spout negativity every chance you get. It’s all doom and gloom and even when we win, you lot still have stuff to b negative about.
