Hi Ed’s, good performance tonight especially from Nat Phillips. Has he been offered a new contract with his ending in the summer or does it look like this is very much a stop gap till the summer? He looks a good, home grown defender, not the most eye catching on the ball but a lot better than some of those out there defensively.

I'd rather keep Phillips over Matip anyway. Nat has done well when called upon. Very good 4th choice CB to have.

Ed002 - thanks for this, just looked and long term deal signed in 2019 but some sites suggesting up in 2021. 2 years wouldn’t usually be considered long term deal in general.

I'm perfectly happy going into next season with Virgil, Gomez, Kabak and Phillips as the 4 senior centre backs. Let Williams play with Koumetio for the u23's for a year or 2. Matip has to go though as he cannot be relied on at all, and this Davies can't get on the bench ahead of Williams so obviously isn't doing it in training. Sell him back to the Championship for a small profit.

he only signed a 2 year contract ed so ends this summer. I think he has earned a new contract if not there will be a few teams looking at picking him up on a free transfer and if he does go good luck to him he has not put a foot wrong when picked this season.

Wouldn't sign kabak on what I've seen from him so far. Phillips is definitely a good player to have in the squad but think we still need a quality addition in the summer. Virgil may take time to get up to speed and gomez has yet to make it through a full season.

Davies was injured so he obviously couldn't be ahead of Rhys. Kabak is not good enough, might be in the future, but not for now. I'm hoping we won't go for him after the loan. Ed is right that those 4 you mentioned are not premier winning quartet. VVD Gomez and Nat I would keep as a 1st 2nd/ 3rd and 4th option respectively. Davies? I have no idea, we are yet to see of him as he came and immediately struck our luck this season and got injured. Who to sign? I don't know to be honest, this season I don't watch that much games outside of Liverpool as its clearly "boring" without fans and all the rules changing after each game.

{Ed0666's Note - Carr or Konate for me if he can stay injury free. Has the potential to be special but has only played 60 games in the last three seasons.

“When fit” being the critical phrase. He simply cannot be relied upon during the season. There’s no doubt about his quality, but that is of no use to the team from the treatment table.

VVD, Gomez, Phillips and Bremer/ Caleta-Car as our CBs next season. Kabak's too green and not ready for this level imo. Matip and Davies can go.

Keep them all. Sign Phillips up, Kabak for £18 million and Matip fit. let's be honest, it will be hard to ship out Matip and £18 million for Kabak is dirt cheap these days. I think the 5 CBs give us enough options going forward and it doesn't cost a fortune.

Davies is in official pics training with the first team last Wed and sat before the Chelsea game and Fulham one. Also as much as I cannot wait to see Vvd and Gomez back both are coming back from very serious injuries. The chances of setbacks or the injuries reoccurring or niggling are just as likely as the players returning and going a full season without a flare up. For me because of that we need at least 1 better back up centre half to go with Phillips or Kabak (Phillips is free so makes more sense for it to be him) . After all Klopp wanted a top centre back in the summer way before Vvd and Gomez were injured. Can’t see that having changed now.

I wouldn't be surprised if Davies suffers from the same struggles that Phillips had in trying to convince Klopp he is good enough.
