Mornings Ed's
Do you think we will get to see any of Ben Davies this season to judge if he would be a useful squad player going forward?

{Ed001's Note - probably not.}

Agree0 Disagree0

13 Mar 2021 08:52:38
Why you say that Ed001?

{Ed001's Note - because we have seen no sign of him, why would that change?}

13 Mar 2021 10:29:36
He struggled with the step up in training but he is making the bench now. I hope we will see him as Kabak leaves me underwhelmed. I can’t see Kabak and Phillips playing the next 15 games together.

13 Mar 2021 10:55:29
I can see Kabak and Phillips playing together because of complete lack of other options, it’s pretty obvious that playing Fabinho in defence is a simply a recipe for defeat as our midfield options beyond Fabinho and Henderson offer no protection to our defence. So unless Virgil makes a miraculous recovery or Davies starts stepping up in training, you should probably get used to seeing Kabak and Phillips as there’s nothing else available.

13 Mar 2021 11:19:41
Is it because of the quality or he was not his choice?

13 Mar 2021 11:19:54
If Davies doesn’t look as good as Kabak in training then I can’t see him calming your nerves Mark if he gets first team game time.

13 Mar 2021 11:24:45
Do people not think that for a twenty year old coming into an absolute rubbishshow of a situation that Kabak has done well? im not saying he's being Vvd like but i can't think of any other CB's of his age playing regularly in the Premier League at the moment, he's only a pup for that position. At £18m he wouldn't be a bad buy in the summer if Klopp goes that way.

13 Mar 2021 11:57:11
Exactly JH.
If the club has to invest time and effort into a player, better that it’s a younger player that can really develop?
Some shocking comments on Matip too, he’s a CL-winning player for goodness sake. You’d think people would be desperate to see him fit and well rather than desperate to get rid of?
The club owes him a duty of care to protect his health. Something is going wrong that needs to be fixed and put right.
Then you think about selling him. We owe the lad massive thanks, he was fantastic that season when he was needed.

13 Mar 2021 11:57:39
Playing with Fabinho in his natural position is going to help both of Kabak and Phillips immensely, as we saw against RBL not being constantly exposed just takes the pressure off the defence and keeper as well as the full backs.

13 Mar 2021 12:43:15
So we owe Matip a lifetime contract because he managed to actually put together a run of games that one time?

His lack of fitness has cost us this season pretty much, this was when we needed him fit the most and he wasn’t there to do it. Do you honestly want to run the risk of seeing this nightmarish scenario play out again because of your loyalty to matip?

Good player when fit, but we have to be ruthless this summer. We all know who can’t be relied on, its up to the club to move them on.

13 Mar 2021 12:54:01
Matip IS made of glass but"cost us this season pretty much? ". what about the other twenty odd injuries we've had this year?

13 Mar 2021 13:15:47
As it stands there’s the 3 senior CBs that are injured, Nat and Rhys, the two new lads, not to mention Van den Berg and Koumetio.
That’s 9 centre backs in and around the First Team squad, lol.
There’ll obviously be some serious decisions to be made on their futures this Summer. But there’s no Football Manager ‘21 reset button to press and suddenly you sell who you wish.
They have to be made fit and well, assessed, consulted and then move forward.
They’ve all got contracts so it’s up to the club to do their best for them.

13 Mar 2021 15:09:53
Poor comment. Vvd and Gomez have been injured pretty much all season too. Laying the blame on Matip just isn't right.

13 Mar 2021 16:40:23
Whereas it’s neither Matip’s fault that he’s injured as much as he is or the run of results we’ve had, it’s entirely reasonable to say he’s too injury prone to rely upon, so it would be right to move him on. There’s no room for sentiment.

13 Mar 2021 17:09:48
Fair enough, along with another 5 or 6 asewell though. if one's a drain they're all a drain.

13 Mar 2021 19:33:48
Might as well move Allison, Fab and Hendo on as well then, because all 3 have been injured a few times last 2 seasons.

13 Mar 2021 20:01:27
Waitisover that’s some incredible false equivalency going on there. The injuries suffered by Matip happen far too often and aren’t remotely comparable to those three, almost every season he’s not available for some considerable portion for some reason or other. He’s too injury prone to be relied upon either as a first team starter, or as a back up. And I’m saying this as someone who believes that our best defensive partnership is van Dijk and Matip. Sometimes tough decisions need to be made.

13 Mar 2021 22:02:49
Kabak and Phillips complement each other, Phillips flies in all blood and thunder, no fear and Kabak cleans up what's left or gets through.
That of course is with Fabinho in midfield.
If we have a keeper and back four that can gel plus a DM to protect them then keep them together and play every game until the end of the season as they can only improve.
On The Up!

14 Mar 2021 01:20:04
Gomez is equally injury prone as Matip. Your Pointing with dirty fingernails. Henderson goes walkies every season when things get tough. Alisson misses 10 games a year. Fabinho has 4 weeks off for his and his birds birthday. The only one who’s never injured is Wijnaldum and you’ve all decided he’s crap because he wants go Barcelona when his deals up.

14 Mar 2021 09:00:13
Agree about Gini.

14 Mar 2021 10:22:17
The thing about Gomez is that his age works in his favour, it’s possible that he’ll make a full recovery and can largely be free of injury with the right recovery programme, Matip is knocking 30 (if he isn’t 30 already? ), the type of injuries he suffers are only going to become more frequent and means he misses more and more games. In the five years he’s been with us he’s cumulatively missed over a year and half of football, which is quite a lot and the injuries have been increasing over the last few years.

Allison’s injury problems aren’t comparable, one was misfortune through not warming up properly causing him fo pull a hamstring and the other was a training ground accident.
