all this talk of CB’s either to replace Gomez or Matip, what would you actually want to see happen for next season? Given the current options and funding.

We have VVD, Gomez, Matip, Kabak, Phillips and Davies how do you think we should line up next year.

Agree1 Disagree0

I have no problems keeping any of those players if the club believes they are good enough. This season has proved though that you need at least 4 quality cb’s. There are now question marks against all those players on the list and that is a massive potential problem. We will definitely has to buy at least one top quality addition, preferably one who isn’t injury prone.

Matip has to be moved no matter what else happens as he is just taking space and wages up. Kabak and Davies are still unknowns.

21 Mar 2021 13:05:15
Vvd might nvr be the same or Gomez as for matip!
We need to solid cbs non injury prone and like what mark08 says!
We can’t go into the season again with 3 potential injury prone players We’ve learnt a lot this season.

Well Klopp seems to want a starter to start alongside VVD.
So VVD and the new one are starters.
Gomez is third choice.
Then I would keep Phillips as fourth.
Then keep Davies or Matip as 5th. Depends on who impresses and who can be sold.
I wouldn’t keep Kabak.

If your car kept breaking down would you keep it? Neither would I and that’s why matip has to go because he’s too unreliable!

Gomez is different, he’s suffered serious injuries and that’s why I’d be prepared to give him time.
Vvd might never rediscover his best form but he’s an animal so wouldn’t write him off just yet either.

I’d keep vvd, Gomez, Phillips and Davies (can’t comment on him until we see him play) kabak needs to prove himself and if he doesn’t we need to sign someone who pushes for a place.

It may make sense for matip to go but for it to happen we need a buyer. Which I think would be unlikely with his injury record.

21 Mar 2021 15:48:06
WYred, at the right price, there’ll be a taker.

A new centre back bought. Joe gomez to play right full and move Trent further forward.

21 Mar 2021 19:21:26
Gomez isn't a full back, personally I'd keep trent there. Yes he may be able to play in midfield but I'd be more confident in getting another quality midfielder in then a new RB to fill TAA's void (who grows up wanting to be a full back? ) . Keep trent there and maybe move him when he can't be bombing up and down the pitch a few years down the line.

{Ed077's Note - I agree. We dont know how good Trent will be in midfield but we have seen him be the best RB in the world when in form. I would only play him in midfield if he doesnt want to play RB anymore. Or in major injury crisis in midfield.}

21 Mar 2021 19:57:31
Jimmy, we already played Gomez at FB. It dies not work do why would we do that again? Also, this whole moving TAA into midfield makes no sense to me. The kid headmasters the RB role the way Klopp plays it to the point of being voted the best RB in the planet so why move him into a position he will have to literally relearn again?

Is that cos he is struggling for form? If that is the case then what would moving him in midfield accomplish or did it not occur to you that he would struggle there too while learning the position?

As for CB, Kabak and Phillips are pretty much auditioning for a spot in the squad so we shall see. I think it will all depend on how VVD and Gomez come back from their injuries and if Matip can b moved on. If a starter cannot be signed then we will have to go with what we have with Kabak or Phillips, Davies, VVD and Gomez.

Ideal scenario is van Dijk, Kounde, Gomez, Phillips in that order.

Anyone calling for trent to be put in midfield needs to sort their head out.

My one concern is that Konate is brought in to replace Gomez and Matip is sold. The issue is that Konate has a history of a longer combined "out injured" period than even Matip over the last few years. So we're exchanging our injury prone No.3 CB for an injury prone No.2 CB. How else do you explain that Upamecano has gone for around 43 Million and yet Konate could be available for around half of that? And many people have said Konate is the better player.

{Ed0666's Note - Konate is not available for half the fee upamacano went for. But you right in saying he’s injury prone as he’s only played 60 odd matches in the past three seasons. One to probably avoid. But an injury free konate is bordering on world class.
