do you not think this stuff coming out about Konate might make Kabak think what's the point they are not going to sign me at the end of this? or it might make him kick on and force the clubs hand to keep him.

Agree0 Disagree0

Well I don’t think Shalke want him back so he might think he needs to find a club this summer that will take him on, so he might put in the extra effort to make him attractive to buyers.

Or maybe we sign both, sell Matip and Davies?

Then we have VVD, Konate, Gomez, Kabak and Phillips.

VVD is in his prime (29/ 30) and cost us (as we all know! ) £75m.

The other 4 are aged 20-24 and (if we get Konate for around £30-£35m) and would have cost us a combine c£55m and are all great prospects with good sell on values in the future.

Seems to me to be the sensible, FSG approach.

Don't think konate rumors have anything to them. Again we keep forgetting we need to meet homegrown target criteria too.

I thought quite the opposite. Considering James Pearce and Paul Joyce have both practically confirmed we are interested and looking to seal a deal confirms that something is happening.

Leipzig's boss also commenting on the link by then reiterating that the player is under contract, and just today Konate's agent speaking to The Athletic (those who broke the story) that he expects big deals for 3-4 of his clients makes me think there's certainly substance.

The rumour coming from the Athletic after speaking to his agent would also make a lot of sense.

{Ed002's Note - There is nothing new about Konate - search the site.}

Why would Kabak think so and not put in the effort, OP? Not sure BUT I do not think for a second that Kabak would want to go back to a Schalke team that is damn near certain, to be relegated. So of couse, this will give him the kick up the backside to keep playing well, as he has been doing for both club and country.

Also, this is a great opportunity to stake his claim for a squad position at CB at a HUGE club that win things. What's not to like? If these are not incentives for him to do all he can to convince the coaches and managers that he deserves to be kept then, nothing else will.

Exactly. Why would Kabak be thinking that he's VVD or Gomez/ Matip level, and consequently feel disheartened? He's only 20 and still has a long way to go. If anything his first few games would have opened his eyes as to what it's like playing in the best league on the planet. And hopefully spurred him on to raise his game. Talent, by itself and without the hard work with it, gets you nowhere.
