Ed's, assuming we do sign a new starting centre back, how would you expect that to affect the others? Joe Gomez would surely be kept so that would leave likely one more spot, is it then a straight decision between Matip, Kabak and Phillips? Where does Ben Davies fit in then? Assume that then leaves Rhys Williams goes back out on loan to see if he can make any progress on his positioning.

{Ed002's Note - It is reasonable to assume that Matip will leave in the summer. But you are correct there will be a problem with the numbers with the likes of Phillips, Davies, Williams, van den Berg and Koumetio coming through.}

Agree0 Disagree0

Davies will leave permanently. Rhys and VDB out on loan next season. If Matip goes as well, then Kabak to sign permanently.
VVD, Gomez, Konate, Kabak and Phillips as our CB options (provided we have European football) .

IM sorry but vvd and Gomez are injured and we have no idea if either of them will be back fit for the start of next season. And if they are then who knows how long it will take to regain full fitness. plus we are assuming they don't get injuries related to the previous one. vvd is 30 he may never be able to return to full fitness. so we need two starters based on that and the fact that the world cup midway through the season after and afcon is coming soon where again players will be injured.

Vvd is straight back in the side 100% whether he is fully fit or not so at most we need one starting centreback. Even then one of the best centrehalves in the country in Gomez would have to get used to being a squad member. Matip is also one of the best around but the best thing might be is if he is moved on for a decent price (which won't be easy) and the club then buy both Kabak and hopefully Konate. Vvd, Gomez, Konate and Kabak would probably be the strongest 4 in the league.

Indian buzzer, how in do you come to the conclusion that Davies will leave? I read more and more tripe on here everyday.

30 Mar 2021 18:34:06
Quickest way to injure a player again after a lengthy layoff with a serious injury is to play him before he is fit enough to do the job. And then starts a vicious cycle of repeat breakdowns. Van Dijk won't be playing for the first team until he, Klopp and the medical team are satisfied that he's ready to do so, no matter what wishful thinking or demands the fans come up with.

Do you think Davies will stay pegleg?

30 Mar 2021 19:29:02
Totally agree Flash mate.

Not exactly a panic or desperation move, but the Davies purchase seems to be like the Caulker move. Not absolutely necessary but just in case things go absolutely wrong (which they did; who in here could have guessed that all three senior CB's on the books would be out for the season? ) . I had a wish and hope that Davies would make it (I love it when the little guy makes it), but I'm now guessing that he was just a "just in case" move. With Philips and Williams being preferred over him, and all the noise about Koulibaly, Konate and Kabak, I don't see where the space is for him to move into.

Another way to see it is how do you justify selling Philips for say 5 Million, and yet keeping the older guy (by 2 years) worth 2.5 Million? It would look strange, at best.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see Van Dijk turn out for Holland in the European Championships this Summer.
Surely every Liverpool fan’s nightmare?

30 Mar 2021 21:24:15
Do I think Davies will stay? The bloke hasn’t been given a chance. How can anyone say what his future will be? Regards Davies it’s all ifs and buts. He could really hit the ground running when he gets a chance or he could be another tamiskas. But until he gets a chance how can anyone say he’s going to be sold without him kicking a ball?

30 Mar 2021 23:15:44
How can you write a player off without even seeing how he does for us?

31 Mar 2021 00:23:06
Davies is barely in the door. It took long enough for Robbo and Fabinho to settle and Davies would surely be expecting to be 4th choice at very best next season but there's nothing wrong with that.

VvD, Gomez, +1 New, Phillips and Davies. that's plenty for me, been a freak season injuries wise couldn't be predicted and it would be crazy to load the squad with 5 or 6 genuinely fighting for 2 starting spots.

I'm saying Matip to leave this summer (super player but doesn't stay fit for long enough) with just 1 centre back coming in. I don't know who but if we were to get Konate or someone of that caliber then I would say that would be it and we wouldn't be going for Kabak as well.

The talk about VvD and Gomez not being fit for the start of next season. crazy speculation and you don't go out signing £30M centre backs just to cover one of them missing a few weeks, if they even do.

31 Mar 2021 09:20:04
Anybody who thinks that VVD and Gomez will be fit for the start of the new season is crazy. They both will be 90 min fit by Dec 2021 the latest irrespective how we think VVD is some god and so on. And that's besides form. That's even longer. If we want them to be anywhere near their, they will take a good 12 to 14 months to get there.

I for one want Matip gone. He can't stay fit. VVD, Gomez, Phillips, Kabak, and now it seems Konate seems to be our CB's. Which tells me that it will be Konate, Kabak, Phillips and rotating of VVD and Gomez until they find form and fitness.

If its not going to be Kabak, then i assume all these rumours of a senior CB will do. But let's not kid ourselves, we fell down the table because we lost 3 CB's so we cannot go into next season not addressing our defense.

I think Davies will be gone in the Summer,100%, for his own sake. As for Tsimikas i think he's a very good backup option. Just happens to be up against the always fit and super leftback that is Robertson.

People do not seem to grasp the type of injuries that Gomez and VVD have. Recovering from an ACL depend on many things that are specific to that person's recovery, if there are setbacks or things that no one has any control over. Same with Gomez. I heard he did his knee tendon.

I don't know to what level he did it if true but I can tell you that I had my whole knee tendon reconstructed cos it snapped completely and trust me, it is NO joke. The hope is that the damage was not as serious I I had if indeed he did do his tendon.

Therefore, us getting Konate and prolly Kabak are very good insurance policies to have cos it is more than likely that neither Gomez nor VVD will be ready to start the season cos they are going to have to be eased in slowly and gradually so we are covering our bases here which is the smart thing to do.

VvD wants to play in the Euros this summer. I think talk of it taking another 12 months for him to be match fit is ridiculous speculation.

Matip to leave, maybe Phillips (is his contract out this summer? ) But still just one senior centre back to come in would be enough for me. Realistically, Phillips wasn't part of Klopp's plans this season so it would be the new signing replacing Matip.

I think that we will see a lot of Davies in pre season, that will be his chance to show if he is good enough.
