Were all going to read what we want to in his apology. And to say it's a response to backlash is fair - it's pretty rare in all walks of life that apologies happen without backlash.

However I find the actual wording of the apology to be interesting.

He repeatedly separates himself from the staff and players (even executive staff) refers to it as our club (as in the fans) and does not include himself in our in group.

His writer is a very good one who managed to absolve all executive staff, playing staff and management at the same time as making himself solely culpable and keeping a distance between himself and the club.

Essentially he's made it so if the premier League are to punish anyone it would look unjust to punish the club when he's made it clear they had nothing to do with it.

Its a written and performed apology no doubt, but it's well written and considered and seems to be either performed well or genuine.

Agreed Nevada he is either a very good actor or is indeed genuinely sorry. I might be naive but I prefer to believe the latter. Yes there will be a lot of people screaming FSG out but who are we going to replace them with?

How can it be anything other than a lie? He said that it was never going to go ahead without the fans’ blessing?!?! Erm well if that was the case then why didn't you ask us instead of doing this behind our backs for years and then leaving us to riot when we found out?

I suspect they massively underestimated the backlash they would get. Although I suppose, they would have known if they had consulted the fans first. I do not neccesary think he was lying, I do believe it was a misjudgment of decision making. These things happen in businesses all the time and it is always difficult to backtrack.
