My issue with wanting new owners is that we will want owners that can back our manager with the best players to achieve our dreams of titles.

The problem with this is, the owners will need to pay for said player either through higher tickets or bigger TV deals or better kit deals. They won't just buy them out of the goodness of their heart.

For the average fan that means more costs for tickets, higher subscription fees and higher costs for kits. Which for some is themselves and kids which can get up to £100's for bits of clothing.

The only way we change football and don't head towards a breakaway is a fundamental change to how the football product is provided to fans.

For instance salary caps for clubs, a cap on agents fees (parasites of someone else's talent imo) . Set a maximum price for TV deals and set a figure for ticket prices.

Problem is none of this will happen as it all goes to the highest bidder, demand will only go up and therefore so will the prices. The longer people keep paying them it'll only head in one direction which is owners trying to generate more funds to satisfy the fans requirements of better players.

I don't think any of the caps will come in but something needs to fundamentally change or the cycle will continue and it'll only end with clubs breaking away as that's the only way to further generate funds.

Well said sir. Find the root cause for the demise of football which has been happening for the last 20 year and work on it. To be very honest the whole footballing institution don't care about the FANS, PLAYERS OR MANAGERS. you want to preserve something preserve THE HOLY TRINITY.

The holy trinity? I mean Salah, Mane and Firmino are a cracking front three but I'm not sure about holy.

Those of my generation will likely remember a distinct shift in modern western society. A point in time when "markets will determine outcomes". A point in time when the rhetoric around money, power and influence took on a distinct tone. It was the era of Thatcher and Reagan. The wealth concentration since then as seen those with more take even more and it be heralded as an exemplar of neo-liberalism, something to be celebrated.
Football has followed suit. The irony was not lost on me when Neville and Carra spoke out about the greed of the ESL from behind a paywall.
Remember when Sky took over cricket broadcasting in the UK (think it was sky)? The great Richie Benaud turned down the money they offered him and hung up his boots as the games greatest caller. On signing off during a late arvo session the crowd to a man stood and applauded as he left the box, never to pick up a mic to the benefit of privatised sport.
There are hardly any Richie Benaud's left anymore and there's your problem when trying to enact radical change in the game. Money generally wins. Thankfully in this iteration of a Super League it hasn't yet. Let's all hope fans realise the power they do have and learn how to use it collectively and constructively.
Yes, I am an old bloody socialist. The type of socialist inspired by a certain Bill Shankly.

{Ed0666's Note - Richie Benaud retired because he promised his family he would

Brilliant cricket commentator.

{Ed0666's Note - boring as Fuc* if you ask me Bazza.

Is there a case to be made that you can get good players for relatively cheap/ less investment if you have a good scouting system and a good coach to refine those players?

{Ed077's Note - do you mean what like LFC did with the likes of Robbo, Mane, Salah? Or what Leicester did with the likes of Kante, Ndidi, etc?}

22 Apr 2021 07:02:35
I don't think so WYred. I'm pretty sure the majority of fans will be happy if we left money on the table and used the players we can afford. It's the principle after all.

22 Apr 2021 08:58:59
I'm pretty sure that as soon as the dust settles the majority of fans will be banging on about why can't we sign the likes of Mbappe.

22 Apr 2021 08:35:18
You’re right Ed it’s impossible 😂.

{Ed077's Note - ??

The ills of modern capitalism. But we asked for it. And got it.

Must have missed my reply earlier Ed0666, stating Richie continued with free to air broadcasting for 3 years after knocking back SKY's offer?

{Ed0666's Note - yes mate I understand he knocked the money back i got my dates wrong he went to work for channel 9 in Australia after sky took over the cricket coverage in tne UK then he retired even after channel 9 offered him fortunes to carry on
