Hi Ed001,how highly rated is young Kaide Gordon by the club? Know he's not at the club long but he's made a brilliant start.

{Ed001's Note - very highly rated, they went to a lot of trouble to get him.}

Agree1 Disagree0

Yeh i'd say so, only 16 but already looks too good for the U18's.

{Ed001's Note - I would expect him to be in the 21s next season.} Become a Patron!

Most of the u18s look too good for the u23s too b honest, averaging 3 goals a game over season .

I think we all, as fans, suffer from impatience! Look at players like Keide Gordon, Musialowski and Balagizi (to name 3 great academy prospects) and you think "why do we need to worry about buying Mbappe etc when we have academy talents who could save us 10s of millions".

But we do need to give them time. I hope that 1 or 2 of them can get loans to decent Championship sides, like Elliot has done, and then be ready in a season or two to pick up first team appearances, again, like I hope Elliot will do in 21/ 22.

It would be fantastic to grow these players and either save us a bundle on transfer fees, or get us £10-£20m in a few years to reinvest in the team.

To be honest, I think we've shown signs of doing that well in recent years. We've had TAA and Jones (more recently) breaking through (with Elliot to come) and we've picked up decent money for Ibe, Wisdom, Solanke (albeit he was only with us briefly) and hopefully Wilson, Ojo and Woodburn this season (maybe not £10m a pop, but at least the 3 of them together may contribute to a £20m recruit) .

I'm looking forward to the next few years to see how they develop, then again I said the same a few years back about Mellor and Flanagan!

I know what you mean Zeddicus. just grates when i look at the likes of Origi and Taki taking up wages and squad places when their output could easily be replaced by some of these kids. Not saying they should be first 11 but if Origi, Taki nd say Shaquiri were to leave this summer and be replaced by a new signing and Elliott with the kids there for early rounds of the cups or Europa League.

05 May 2021 16:44:59
Agree with Jadon Havertz.
I'd happily replace Origi, Shaq and Taki this summer with Elliot, Musialowski and a new CF.
We say a lot of wages and the kids will run through brick wall for the manager unlike the non performing squad players.

{Ed0666's Note - sounds like a fair swap to me

That's actually a very good call IB.

05 May 2021 17:26:30
Throw in the likes of Wilson, Ojo and Awoniyi too.

05 May 2021 18:07:25
Agree to a point with the OP but Foden never went on loan. Now I'm not for one second saying any of these kids are at or near his level but he was kept around City's 1st team training and learning everyday from Aguero etc, making the bench and starting the odd game here and there. Would that be another option for them?

05 May 2021 18:00:34
Good call Jadon (your first comment) I didn't even think about our squad places. I'd love to see some of the kids given a try, whether they grow into the new Mbappe or simply decent backups.

With most teams, the system is often more important than the individuals. So, having a, say, £100m player replaced (through injury, suspension, AFCON etc) by a £20m player who knows the system inside out is going to be much better for the team than having a £40-£50m player replacing them who is being played out of position.

I really hope we go through this process of selling those players who are older and maybe not going to make it as 1st team players (Origi, Shaq, Wilson, Ojo, Woodburn, Awoniyi etc etc) and replacing them with Academy potentials who *may* become 1st team players, but at least have been trained for certain roles. And most importantly they they are usually both HG and CT.

I actually thought that Chelsea, in Frank's first season when they had the transfer ban, were looking really good for developing a group of youngsters, but then Abramovic got his chequebook out and started again.

If we can promote from within for the "12-23" places then we can use the funds for 1-2 really fantastic players to improve the 1st team.

05 May 2021 19:24:07
Exactly Zeddicus. think were slowly but surely producing a group of players (Kelleher, Neco, Jones and Elliott) who can go on to be AT LEAST squad players at the club and hopefully they are just the start.

05 May 2021 19:21:54
Ed1, do you wish klopp would just blood some of these promising youngsters? It just seems not many make it.

{Ed001's Note - TAA and Jones have come through, the likes of the two Williams and others have had chances. Why would I have a problem with the way Klopp handles youngsters because he is not giving a 16 year old chances?}

05 May 2021 19:54:17
If these kids end up being good enough, we couldn't ask for a better manager than Klopp in terms of giving them chances when they are ready. He won't rush them but won't be afraid to give them a go if they deserve it either.

05 May 2021 20:54:17
Yeah, guess I'm just being impatient! Would just love a young forward to come through and set the world alight! I'm excited about the youngsters we have coming through and just hope they make it. Guess my point was just that rather than questioning klopp as it came across. In regards to the 2 Williams lads, I'm not sure either will make it.

{Ed001's Note - you have to be patient with them. They won't be able to play regularly until they are 18 anyway. As for the Williams duo, Neco might but not a chance for Rhys sadly.}
