At last JK has realised Fab has to play midfield no matter who’s in defence.

Agree5 Disagree0

08 May 2021 21:46:53
Young Rhys has done well so far to be fair to him.

{Ed0666's Note - exactly good for him

08 May 2021 22:07:36
Rhys played very well in fairness lad's.

{Ed0666's Note - yes he did mate and he’s undeserving of the flack he got. The kid saved us many times from certain goals.

08 May 2021 22:10:40
Rhys done but philips should be a starter next season with VVD. He is exceptional at his positioning and can head away everything. I think we shouldn't even be signing konate and playing philips.

{Ed0666's Note - Konate and Virgil would be levels above Birgil and Philips in my humble opinion mate. But I agree we shouldn’t get rid of Philips he’s really dependable.

08 May 2021 22:12:50
He's only 18 Ed0666 for God's sake I don't get it either.

{Ed0666's Note - are you kidding? Rhys Williams is only 18? Then the abuse he gets is even more incredulous. He’s a frickin kid

08 May 2021 22:16:56
Well played Rhys Williams, some of the abuse he got on here before the game was embarrassing. I get criticizing a player after the game if he’s played poorly but to mock a young player like him before the game has even started shows a complete lack of class.

08 May 2021 22:17:58
The problem with the lads (Williams, Kabak, Phillips) filling in at the Back this season is they are trying to replace a world class centre half and that’s what they are being unfairly judged on. It’s like asking a youngster to come in and replicate what Salah does for us if he were to be injured. The only thing we can ask them to do is okay to the ability they have and I think they have all done that. All 3 might not make it at Liverpool but they can hold their heads high this season for stepping up to the plate and giving it their best shot.

{Ed0666's Note - what he said

08 May 2021 22:19:06
Credit where credits due the young lad played well. Ed666 you confident about the Man U game? Usually a bore draw but we need a win. Get the 3 points there and with a little bit of luck with the other results and 3 points in our remaining fixtures we somehow might sneak Champions League footy.

{Ed0666's Note - I have to be honest mate I just don’t think it will happen. We are tiresome to watch and the fluidity and verve has gone out of our game which makes us venerable and penetrable. We pressed well in parts today and we have to keep that up for the next 4 games to have any chance. I think we might take 3 points on thursday as United play on two games in three days. But it all depends on what Leicester do. Don’t be fooled by their run in because on paper it looks hard but they’ll be playing two teams that will be resting players for a European cup final. It’s Leicester’s to lose but we have to make a fight if it and out em under pressure.

08 May 2021 22:41:31
Fab in midfield gives extra cover allowing fullbacks to push on, defence did what they are paid for nothing flash just basic defending.
If JK had done this months ago instead of using fab and hendo at the back we would be comfortably in a top 4 position.
Sorry but poor management decisions have put us in this position.

08 May 2021 22:47:10
Ed666. It will be difficult at best I know. I want this torrid season to end to be honest but if we somehow sneak top 4 that would offer some happiness, although like you I can’t see it. Next season with a few signings and VVD, Hendo and Gomez back I think we will be different gravy. I’m really excited about Konate and would also like Bissouma. Forward position is a conundrum though. I’m thinking we should try and bring in a true goal scorer instead of inside forward/ winger. Lewandowski would be the dream with the keyword being dream, which will never happen. Otherwise I’m not sure who else is out there who is realistic financially. Elliot coming back is another one I’m excited about, can’t wait to see him in front of a fully fit midfield with VVD and Konate/ Gomez behind them and Trent and Robbo flying again. What would you do with the forwards this summer? would you leave it as it is or would you freshen it up and sell one. If so who would you move on and who would you like to bring in?

{Ed0666's Note - I’m not sure Elliot is gonna be an instant hit I think it’s gonna take a couple of seasons. I also think his natural position isn’t on the wing I think he’ll move into the middle which will be his position going forward.
For me Bissouma is a must now that somoure is rumoured to be nailed on for Leicester.
I would sell Mane bring in Raphina, Saka or Malen and then the season after next move on Bobby mate.

08 May 2021 23:04:07
My apologies Ed0666 Rhys is 20.

{Ed0666's Note - thats how rumours start bazza 😂

08 May 2021 23:11:08
Williams' main problem all season was that he was trying to play like he has pace when he doesn't. He kept getting really tight and aggressive which resulted in oppo forwards spinning him or running off him without any chance he'd catch up. He had a much better handle on when to drop off and give himself a yard today than in any of his previous games.

08 May 2021 23:19:26
Need the toffees to do is a favour now. Can’t believe that Aguero pen, the idiot 😂.

{Ed0666's Note - he’s a showman he wanted to bow out of city in style. He served the right to showboat

08 May 2021 23:25:29
That as well may be Ed, but we could have done with Chelsea not picking up 3 points today.

{Ed0666's Note - and we could have done with not letting in late equalizers against Leeds and Newcastle. Shoulda coulda woulda mate

08 May 2021 23:32:16
I like Raphina but to say he can replace Mane at this stage with his numbers this season is a bit premature. I’d prefer Raphina to come in to compliment our forwards rather than try and replace.

08 May 2021 23:26:58
Ed666 Agreed. I see Elliot more in the AMC position with a license to roam. He needs time to settle as he is only a kid but still excited to see him in cup games and off the bench in the league. Do you know if we are at the very least serious about bringing in Bissouma? Good shout with Saka btw. He is a talented kid and looks to have his head screwed on but not sure Arsenal would sell. Also he is very versatile, which Klopp likes. Hopefully he is in Klopp’s peripherals. I too would sell Mane but maybe my push for a goal scorer is out of fear of say Salah getting injured. I don’t know where our goals would come from. I too would then look to move Firmino on the following summer and then that summer make a massive push for Bellingham. Think the kid is Hendo’s successor and looks mature beyond his years. That’s without mentioning his current ability and his potential and also the fact Milner would most likely retire that summer it seems like a no brainier, finances permitting of course.

{Ed0666's Note - I’m pretty sure Liverpool have spoken to Bissoumas representative which is promising but clearly no where near a done deal as there’s lots of other clubs sniffing around him.

08 May 2021 23:27:26
Love it Ed0666😂😂😂.

{Ed0666's Note - 🥰

08 May 2021 23:28:41
Too true, too painfully true.

{Ed0666's Note - Can you imagine if we get top 4 from the position we were in a few weeks ago. I’ll go on the lash for two weeks as it would be as good as winning the champions league and premiership put together (I exaggerate for the narrative)

09 May 2021 04:14:54
The one big problem with Rhys williams is that he has no pace whatsoever. There were a few times in the game against Southampton that people ran past him like he was nothing. The kid has done well but for me, he makes merteslacker look like speedy gonazeles. The kid has done ok but he is definitely not first team quality yet.

{Ed0666's Note - yes well done you’re the first one to point out the kid has no pace. He’s not gonna be anywhere near the first team next season , he’s filled in an emergency today and did better than expected. Let’s give him props for a change and not exacerbate his fallibilities

09 May 2021 04:50:51
We got a clean sheet today. What more can a central defender do? The fact that you want him to look pretty while he ensures we get 3 points and feel the need to go on a forum to criticise him still is just not cool.

09 May 2021 09:06:50
Ed0666, I’m probably Williams harshest critics, but after a couple of dodgy moments in the first half, he did far better than I’d have given him credit for and in fairness to him he had a good game overall, his positioning at times in the first half was a little suspect, but it was far better than the United game and the only actual brain fart moment wasn’t by Williams but came courtesy of Alisson playing a blind pass.

I’m not arsed that he doesn’t have pace, I can name loads of good defenders who didn’t have pace (Hyypia, anyone? ), he just needs to be alert to danger, read play better, hold a decent position and use his physical presence to out muscle attackers, which he was doing more often than not.

On that performance, if Kabak is still out, Williams deserves fo start and he will at least be playing behind Fabinho which at least means the defenders will have some protection in midfield. Let’s hope we face a very knackered man United team on Thursday after their travails. Very happy to be eating humble pie this morning.

09 May 2021 10:03:28
I think everyone is forgetting that Southampton had plenty of opportunities to score, most of the time because Williams was found wanting. As I said, he has done well but putting him against players like cavani with his movement or martial and rashford with their pace would be a huuuuuge mistake!
