I can't believe I am hearing in the media that we might sell nat Phillips while his stock is high, he is essential for a squad he could be played in games when the squad needs to be rotated or against physical teams, with no guarantees gomez an vvd will come back the same players we have to learn from past mistakes e. g prepare for the worst if we serious about being a winning team again .

What media?

11 May 2021 14:50:23
Nevermind what’s best for Nat and his career?

Us buying Konate or some other CB will bring us to 4 top quality CBS in the squad. The odds of losing 3 senior cbs for an entire season again are limited are best.

Keeping a bit part player like Phillips would not be a signal of intent that we wish to seriously challenge.

He’s done a cracking job, if he wants to leave or we can make a pretty penny from his sale, good luck to him.

You don't know our owners then? Haha.

I just don’t think he fits Klopp styles of play hence why he gave Williams the shot before him. Also the lack of pace with a high line is easy to catch out, goals like the one in Madrid are impossible for him to defend if executed correctly to no fault of his own really.
That being said I think he’s done really well and he deserves to be a starter at another premier league club, could see Newcastle being a good destination for him. For his own career surely he would want to be first choice somewhere rather than 4th/ 5th at Liverpool?

11 May 2021 15:22:38
Dont you know Shaq. he should be happy to stay and be 5th choice and get 10 minutes every couple of months.

If and when VVD and Gomez come back to previous levels (probably around mid-season in my opinion) and Konate is actually bought, then I see no reason for the club to keep holding Philips back from a fruitful career. Makes no sense whatsoever with Kabak in the shadows, and Koumetio, Williams and Van den Berg in the pipeline. And there's no real indication that even Matip will be sold. Klopp seems to like the idea of fulfilling his contracts, so it's not a stretch that he likes his players to do the same, and then walk off on frees. Could well happen with Matip. What are we going to do with 6 senior CBs on the books?

On a side note, I'm not convinced that Konate will join. We've all seen this song and dance before when we were so sure Werner would join. It didn't happen because the money was not there. Well, there's even less money this summer and more so the next because next year's accounts will show what this year was in terms of level of disaster. Sure, FSG can always borrow funds from a variety of sources, but I'm not convinced they'll want to muddy up their accounts already full of red.

Wgen you sell players that have character you are doing it wrong. He is an old school no non sense defender. Those players in this day and age are a rarity. Hold on to him as he could be a potential future captain for us.
I don't want konate or other luxury defenders. I want one philips anyday. Players like philips when backed bring you league titles. This is what is in all that is wrong with football.
Fans only want luxury players. Tell you what if nat plays a big role in next 4 games and gets us to a CL spot he starts for me alongside vvd next season and if he don't you can very well understand we are a club who doesn't care and will buy our success like the citys and psgs.

11 May 2021 16:53:34
How much do you think we would get for Phillips? £5m maybe.

11 May 2021 17:08:12
If it was "in the media" then it must be correct because they're never wrong, are they? Even when we're supposedly signing 5-10 different players every week!

11 May 2021 17:28:12
Akira that is absolutely tosh mate. There’s plenty of “no nonsense defenders” lurking in the conference league. It’s a good quality to have but in our team more is required.

How many titles did we win with carragher at the helm?

11 May 2021 17:46:54
I absolutely agree Akira! He’s good. And when he has a better partner next to him he will be better. Throw money at another position that needs it - someone (else) who can stick the ball in the net.

11 May 2021 18:00:48
Notice I said using him in rotation in the right games eg against physical opponents with lack of pace but physical and it will help not playing him in a high line which is like asking a fish to run the 100m.
Why can't klopp have different tactics? He doesn't always have too play a high line and it shows flexibility in tactics .

11 May 2021 18:18:32
Nat is better than konate. that's all.
Konate hasn't even played any real spell of football since the 18/ 19 season. Why are fans so sweating on him. Do you remember the last player we got from leipzig? Yea he turned out great didn't he.
Id understand if we were getting someone solid in, but konate is a bigger risk than phillips imho.

11 May 2021 19:43:19
And how much top flight has Nat played since 18/ 19?

Are you seriously suggesting we should avoid Konate because Keita has bombed? By that logic, Salah and Allison have been incredible so we should buy Chris Smalling.

Phillips Is a 4th choice defender, nothing more.

You’re the same person who made the ludicrous statement it was perhaps time to cash in on VVD.
