Looks like Rhys at Cbk tomorrow, good luck to the lad.

He's taken a lot of unfair criticism in my opinion. 12 months ago he was playing in the National league against Police men and Shoe makers. This season he's gone toe to toe with the likes of Zapata and Kane in the Premier League and Champions League. It was a monumental step up for a 19 year old kid to make.

He's had a couple of stinkers, but it's convenient how everyone forgets some of the stinkers guys like Carragher, Gerrard and Trent had in their teenage years. He could do with a loan next season in the Championship just to toughen up and get him used to playing 90 minutes every week. Needs to be a carefully picked loan though. A mid-table team with very little pressure to make play offs or avoid relegation. Maybe Blackburn would take another one of our lads after Elliott's success.

He is certainly not as bad as many on here make out. He will have a solid career in the game whether he makes it with Liverpool or not.

What MK said.

We have the hand we are dealt. No point fussing about it. The kid needs to take his chance in a truly big game. He will either sink or swim. Let’s go out there, think big, play big and if possible, we can win big. Let’s go!

I can’t remember us conceding a goal at the weekend and apart from a couple of slightly iffy moments in the first half early on, he played pretty well against Southampton. Seasons over anyway so as far as I’m concerned result is irrelevant, getting some experience and kicking a few Man United players will do him the world of good, plus Fabinho in front will give home some protection.

I agree that a loan at Blackburn will be a good one. Tony Mowbray was a decent centre back and has good ideas on the game, plus he’s not afraid to put faith in young players.

We didn’t lose fourth place because of this result or the one yesterday. We lost it because of the poor performances against Newcastle, WBA, Leeds, Burnley, Fulham etc. Those results cost us.

The difference with Trent, Gerrard and Carragher having bad games when they were young is that you could see they were talented and would be good enough to play for Liverpool if developed correctly. Same cannot be said with Williams. He’s so slow and cannot position himself correctly in defence to deal with his lack of pace. I would be shocked if he made it into a decent championship team. Saying that, if he starts good luck to the lad.

Agree big virg. You pretty much took the words out of my mouth. To compare him to Stevie/ Trent is absurd. It is no fault of his of course but he is just nowhere near naturally talented enough to be anywhere near the squad. His lack of pace is actually shocking to the point that I’m genuinely surprised he even made it this far. I’ve seen faster CBs playing Sunday league. Think a career in lower league football awaits him at best.

I did not compare him to Stevie or Trent. I swear some people can't read or decipher anything more complex than 3 words. I very simply made the point that all young players have bad games and therefore it is too early to be writing off a 19 year old. Nowhere did i say he would go on to break into the Liverpool first team. He is definitely good enough already for a solid Championship team though. When we released Connor Coady and Peter Gulacsi, nobody would've guessed they'd go on to be key players at top flight European clubs competing for a place in Europe. Rhys is basically still a child so he should be judged as one. In a normal season he would've probably been playing in the u19's Champions League this season, not against the Atalanta and Ajax senior teams.

It's so strange how Liverpool "fans" cannot wait to throw their own youth players to the wolves. You'd probably have said the same about Nat Phillips at 19 years old when he was released by Bolton for not being good enough. Now some people want him to start next to Van Dijk next season!

Spot on, MK. Williams has flaws and we all know that and have mentioned them. That said, he is still a kid that needs good coaching and based on what we saw, he is already improving in the Saints game. Same for Phillips. He is three times the player he was when he started vs WH in his debut so clearly, the coaching is working for them. Comparing them to Trent, Carra n Gerard (when we all know they were much better in their youth) is just wrong and unfair.
