Many of us detest VAR but maybe it's VAR that has suffered the most without fans.

That moment in the final without fans would probably have annoyed us all but with the fans it provided the best reaction.

Incredible moment and well done to Leicester and Rodgers, his team showed tremendous character 😉.

But the final has shown us how much the game needs fans and I can't wait until stadiums are full again, they are crucial to the game.

Agree10 Disagree0

Yes, well done Leicester. Really happy for them and their owners. Brendan really did brighten up the occasion with his pearly white teeth. That VAR moment? Priceless. for Leicester fans at least.

It just had to be VAR didn’t it?
I’m happy for Leicester and Rodgers but what a sickener to lose a cup final like that.
A millimetre or two is ridiculous, the rule of giving the benefit of the doubt to the attacking side was fine by me.
It’s getting to the point where you can’t celebrate a goal properly anymore, horrible.
Having said that, Tuchel is just overly negative. He’s got some fantastic attacking talent at his disposal and always goes safety first.

They actually showed “great character”.

The decision was right. There is always going to be one team at the receiving end of any decision.
If no VAR that goal would have stood and stood unfairly. I think VAR works well for offsides even by a hair, offside is offside. Its that the implementation is not good but the decisions are right. I just wish it could be more real time.

Well done Leicester but my god I hate var.

I can't disagree with you enough Akira. Its a joke some of the offside decisions. Football was never meant to be an exact science.

16 May 2021 00:06:50
Akira when you are talking about millimetres then it all depends on when the frame is frozen. How do we know that the frame was frozen at the EXACT point the ball left the passers foot? When we are talking millimetres a fraction of a second too late can mean it looks offside when it actually isn’t or vice versa.
This is the problem I have with the lines, you can’t treat it like an exact science with lines and grids because you can’t guarantee the accuracy of the person working the equipment. If it needs lines to see it then it’s onside or at the very least it’s linesman’s call.
VAR was supposed to stop the blatantly wrong calls but it’s gone far too microscopic and it’s to the detriment of the game in my opinion.

Problem is that offside is not offside. Its often not that clear cut and end up be subjective hair-splitting. When it becomes that subjective, its no different to having a ref on the pitch making the decision. VAR out.

16 May 2021 05:47:11
No i would still persist with VAR. The lines and grid are def an awkward way to get the answer. But the science isn't wrong. The problem is implementation. It kills the game. In football those decisions have to be near real time. If the on pitch referee gives it real time VAR should be near real time too.
I would agree that onfield decision should be considered in microscopic offsides just like its umpires call in cricket.

{Ed0666's Note - Like it or love it VAR is here to stay. It would be a massive embarrassment to FIFA if they disbanded it and would be an admission that they made a mistake not too mention the time and cost. Get used to those lines being drawn and it taking 20 minutes for the wallies in stockley park making a pigs ear if the most obvious decisions.

change offside decisions to only the feet. at least that will minimize the variables.

16 May 2021 09:29:34
Says it all when we are still seeing red cards rescinded after the event. With VAR in place there should be no instances where a red card is wrongly given. Not one.
We consistently see that refs just don’t understand the game and VAR has only served to highlight that even more.

16 May 2021 09:30:30
The problem with offside decisions are that if they are close, they are close. Change the rules to just the feet and you'll still get ridiculously close decisions. Change the rules to include a margin of error and there will still be decisions based around mms.

VAR stops fans and players from feeling the rush of adrenaline that scoring a goal gave us. If a goal goes in we get that initial buzz but it's replaced instantly with the anxiety that the goal will be disallowed and if it's allowed we are relieved. It's ruined the game.
