Hi Ed001

I hope you are well.

I know you won't have the exact answer to this but I would like to know your opinion.

How long do you think Hendo will remain captain for? Do you think he will retire at Liverpool?

When he gives up the captaincy will go a long way in determining who our next captain is. If he gives it up in the short term then VVD would be our next captain but if he will be keeping the armband for an extended period of years then I feel Trent will succeed him.

We are blessed to have him as captain, a fantastic leader. I always wonder who will be next.

{Ed001's Note - I think he has a few more years left in him, but it will probably come down to injury really. If he continues to suffer them, that will shorten his career. As long as he is with us, I expect him to retain the captaincy because he is a very good leader.}

Agree0 Disagree0

I think for us it's a case of keeping him around for aslong as we can. Regardless of game time. Even if it ends up like a ledley king situation.

Been a long time since we have had a league title winning captain around the training ground. Its invaluable to everyone at the club.

I can see hendo wanting to stay and maybe eventually, well into the future, taking a pay as you play deal.

I’d give Mohamed Salah a new 5 year, 300,000 a week contract and make him captain. No offense to Hendo or other candidates, Salah is one of the best forwards in the world, has exemplary fitness because he does everything right, always gives his absolute best on the pitch, and is a goal-machine and a global icon.

Ed001 I think Robbo would be the best to takeover from Henderson when he steps down from the role.

Kloppboom being one of the best forwards in the world doesn't make you a good captain. I'm not saying he wouldn't be but he is not exactly the vocal type who would chew someone out if needed.

Hendo should quit internationals, to prolong his career and avoid unnecessary injuries, because let's b honest u can put hendo in the bracket of not being able to play ten games on the trot now .

Hendo will remain club captain as long as he is at the club which I would think will be the end of his career.

As for his successor - Trent all day long. Not even a debate.

Yeah, Trent in a couple of years. But he's still young with lots to learn - keeping a cool head for one.

03 Jun 2021 15:15:56
No way would you want Salah as captain! Like most top forwards he’s selfish so let him concentrate on scoring goals rather than captaining the team.

03 Jun 2021 15:36:56
I think he's gone, injured, with England this year because he might retire after it. Which would be excellent for his club career.

Listen, go and search hendo speaking on the pitch videos. Since no crowds have been in you can hear how much he does verbally on the pitch. It's awesome and he is awesome. He captained us to the champions league, super cup, club world cup and premier league. End of discussion. Aslong as he is here he's the captain.

Thanks Ed001

I see the general consensus from the posters is that Trent will take over.

{Ed001's Note - welcome mate.}

Just to throw in my opinion, I totally agree that Hendo is making me more and more proud as our captain. From his cross-club organisation to his on pitch encouragement, he is a genuinely great person.

I'm not sure whether it will be Trent who takes over or Virg, I guess it depends on when. If its 3 years down the line, I'm sure it will be Trent.

There is just a niggly part of me that prefers a captain in the middle - either CB or CM - from the PoV of their general influence.

Who knows, maybe Trent will move to midfield in years to come!

Kloppboom… one of the worst posts I’ve read. Make Salah a captain because he’s a global icon, score goals and stays fit. You have no idea what a captain does on that basis. Hendo has been a revelation in the role who motivates on and off the pitch.

03 Jun 2021 22:11:42
Certainly agree with the notion that a captain is best positioned in the centre positions (CB or CM) to watch and shout at everyone what needs doing. I think when Hendo isn’t playing he don’t have this. VVD does this to an extent but not to the same level so he would be the next captain for me. definitely need another player in the mould of Hendo when he retires though. Even though he is now getting the plaudits he has long deserved I still don’t think people realise just how vital he is. I can’t separate him from VVD and Salah in terms of importance to the team personally.

Messi.

{Ed0666's Note - stop talking about the state of you’re bedsheets when you wake up in the morning KloppBoom the subject at hand is the future Liverpool captain.
