Seems like Adrian is close to signing an extension.

Good news in my book - he is a 2/ 3 choice keeper and for that role I rate him. He has had a few clangers, but was also credited with giving us a solid foundation at the start of out title winning season.

As I said, overall, I'm happy with this, saves us having to spend time finding and integrating another older keeper.

He is awful but he’s on a par with a few first choice keepers in the PL. Pickford being a prime example.
I do cringe when Adrian is selected but he’s third choice so he’s not supposed to be the best keeper in the world.

I think we will have Kelleher as No 2 next season, VVVV, but we always need a No 3 and that tends to be an older experienced keeper who would be happy sitting on the bench (or not even for many matches) .

We'd need Adrian on the bench for cup matches (if Alisson is rested - likely I think if only to give Kelleher more experience) and/ or if Kelleher or Alisson get injured.

Adrian has agreed to stay on in an increased capacity. he will have duties in addition to his playing. I imagine the club hierarchy believes he can make the move to coaching.

Don't get me wrong, Ed025, as a No 1 I would not be happy with him - too prone to error. However, as a backup that we hopefully don't need to call on too much, he's fine in my view.

He already knows how we play (usually, he would have had to adapt with an unfamiliar back 4 which is why I'm glad Alisson was around for much of the second half of the season) and is OK at his job.

We're never going to have 2-3 world class GKs in the squad and I believe the only other EPL GK who's available on a free this summer is Heaton and he'll probably end up at the Theatre of Screams.

AW, I think Adrian signing an extension is a pretty definite indication that Kelleher will not go on loan (famous last words! )

Hopefully we can have decent cup runs in the FA and League cups so Kelleher gets a good few matches. And I hope Alisson does not miss as many games through injury as he has done in the last couple of seasons!

I'm really excited to see who else we bring on board, happy to get Konate done so early.

Adrian is a very good 3rd keeper. And 8 years younger than most of them. Better than Scott Carson, Lee Grant, etc at the 2 clubs that finished above us next season.

For second choice keeper, you can't expect a keeper who is going to gain you points but you don't want one who is going to cost you points either. By that I mean they aren't going to do anything extraordinary but they are reliable and can do the simple things right.

Adrian has proved time and again he is full of mistakes. I also think we should ideally be going for a homegrown keeper as we are running out of slots for non-homegrown players so backup keeper should be able to be covered by a homegrown keeper. They ideally aren't going to play that many games let's be honest.

I liked Karl Darlow when he was in the Newcastle team this season. And if I was him, I would rather sit on the bench at Liverpool than the bench at Newcastle.

Rufus, is Kelleher going to cost us points? Because the consensus is that Kelleher will be 2 and Adrian will be 3. Will Darlow be fine with being GK 3?

I have read that Kelleher will be going on loan Zeddicus. Not sure how true it is. I am fine with Kelleher as number 2 but not Adrian. I would only like a new backup keeper coming in if Kelleher leaves.

I don't think Kelleher would cost us points but Adrian would.

Adrian absolutely didn’t give us a “foundation” for our title win, he had the best defence in the world at the time in front of him and kept 1 or 2 clean sheets. it was like he was doing his best to gift the other team goals, then Look at him in the FA Cup and the CL. That could have been a double or treble winning season had we signed a proper goalkeeper or even kept Mignolet. I’d keep Karius or Grabara over him if i had to pick. He’s proved time and again he’s not good enough to be a PL backup keeper. Kelleher should be 2nd choice for me but the Ireland manager said something about him needed games so i’d say he want a loan himself.

Darlow at any stage could lock down the starting place at Newcastle over Dubravka so I don't think it's fair to say it's better to sit on our bench than theirs. He would have no hope of being no 1 here.
