Only 33 mins in and to think they would pick Walker before TAA

He might be quock. erm good job if he keeps giving the ball away.

Agree0 Disagree0

Southgate will always Choose walker, it's not that difficult to know why the likes of Tripier, sterling walker etc are picked coz they've done exceptionally well Since he's appointment.

They were instrumental when Eng reached SF in last WC. Why wld he Changed when they've never let him down?

A lot of people have got problem with Southgate I get that but you can't deny what he's doing no ENG manager could do in recent yrs despite having golden generation of eng players at their disposal. Where Southgate has done exceptionally well with young talent and reached SF in last WC.

13 Jun 2021 17:43:13
Sorry, but Southgate got lucky due to how the draw fell. Then got found out by superior opponents. Mark my words, against the French, Belgians, Germans or Spanish his “tactics” will come thoroughly undone.

13 Jun 2021 18:23:22
anyone who knows anything little abt sport will tell you everyone needs abit of luck, even we needed to win our trophies. So did ENG when they lifted for the 1st time Cricket WC. To use that as a stick to beat Southgate is appalling.

Southgate has better ratio then any ENG manager that just tells you what a phenomenal job he has done.

13 Jun 2021 19:11:49
The point is, against better opponents, both technically and tactically he was found out for his shortcomings, no amount of him going on about three lions on a shirt, let’s get the together as a nation bullsh*t, bleating on about the spirit of 66, Agincourt or any other jingoistic tub thumping nonsense will do that.

13 Jun 2021 19:43:22
Which better opponents you are talking abt? Croatia?

It's not Like ENG were winning major tournaments or consistently playing SF before he's appointment was it? Neither do have best squad in the tournament so all this noise is absolutely nonsense.

13 Jun 2021 20:00:07
Hasn't a better "ratio" than Big Sam so clearly hasn't the best "ratio" of any England manager.

13 Jun 2021 20:30:06
Lol mane I'm sure Big Sam one game counts more then SF here 🤣🤣.

13 Jun 2021 22:30:59
Southgate is useless. It’s very easy to win lots of games in charge of a top National side as the way seeding works you never actually play anyone decent competitively until a big tournament comes up and we will get spanked by any one of the other decent sides.
That Croatia side were bang average today and any side hoping to win this tournament should be sticking 3 or 4 past them.
He’s just too negative and tries for the clean sheet first and hopes to nick one at the other end. Today it worked but against better opposition we’ll get found out.

Kopforever, VVVV is correct. Southgate got the luck of being not just in the weakest group but in the weaker path to the final unlike the Belgians who had to get thru two cliffhangers vs Japan and Brazil to get to the semis where they fell to a setpiece goal to France. Those are the facts.

I fully agree with you that you need a bit of luck in a tournament to get far BUT if Southgate was anywhere near good enuff, he would have been able to ride that wave all the way to the final. Instead, he got shown up for the terrible manager he was vs the first good team England faced in Croatia where he got absolutely schooled by Dalic who is no tactical genius himself. The guy is clueless and many of us know it.

Stats don’t mean anything here in terms of his winning ratio. When the going gets tough where your coaching mettle will be tested, he folds like a cheap rug. Let’s see what happens in this comp. and we can discuss then.

13 Jun 2021 22:58:00
OilRed mate that's the problem when Eng wins the side is "Bang average" when "ENG" loses "Southgate" is useless.

By your own definition Dalic shooled Southgate but today when Southgate schooled Dalic Croatia were bang average haha.

ENG reached SF with very young inexperience team, if it was that easy then why others with more experience then ENG in their team couldn't go through? they had every opportunity when they played ENG to dump them before SF? after all it was easy peasy?

I think you need to wait and see where England end up in this competition before judging Southgate.

I’m in the same boat as most that he’s a very limited manager. His route to the semi couldn’t have been softer. We played good sides 3 times in that tournament and we lost all 3 of them.

Other managers performances in major tournaments are not really comparable as we’ve previously been knocked out by the likes of Brazil, Portugal a couple of times, Italy and Germany. Had Southgate met a Croatia earlier in the World Cup, we’d have been out at that point instead.

I’d be delighted if Southgate proves us all wrong but I really don’t think he will.

Kopforever, you are making straw man arguments here. Football is more nuanced than that. You can win games and still be a poor or bang average team and manager overall. Zidane has won 3 CLs in a row yet was bang average in la Liga against a Barcelona team on its last legs which is why I don’t rate him overall. Not comparing both teams or managers but explaining nuance.

You are correct with the narrative you expouse about England BUT both can be correct. Dalic schooled Southgate at the WC cos he had a plan and knew where to hurt England and we all saw the loss coming. In this game, I have no idea what Dalic was trying to do. He bottled it vs an England team he could have got more against. We will see where England finish BUT until he does it vs a very good team in the latter stages, the guy is bang average just like Roy before him.

England’s World Cup run was the grimmest run to a semi final I have ever seen. Never seen such boring football. Beat an amateur team, just about beat Colombia in a lottery draw and got beat 3 times in the tournament. Horrific manager, the style of football is abysmal. He has no idea what to do with all of the wonderful attacking talent England have.

14 Jun 2021 10:04:31
I agree with VVVV, against better teams, he has always been found out. If I remember correctly, didn’t he play a weakened team against one of the teams in our group (Belgium wasn’t it? ) so that is we lost, we came second in the group which would lead to an easier route to the final, and then in the semis we came across a decent team and lost (no surprise there) .

Yeah, 3 years can change a lot.
