Just been having a bit of back and forth with Ed0666 on a post about Daka. We were chatting about the fact that we (like most clubs) have a number of targets lined up for a particular position so we have options if our top target doesn't work out.

That got me think, which of our first time were top targets and which not?

Here's a few I'm pretty sure about as they have been mentioned on here in the past:

Salah - famously our 3rd or 4th target for his role (behind Brandt, if I'm not much mistaken? )

Alisson - I'm sure Ed002 or Ed001 said that he was second choice behind Oblak.

Naby - Ed0666 has just advised that Naby was 1st choice, and he hasn't worked out.

I'm guessing the below:

VVD - I'm guessing he was first choice given the tapping up and subsequently paying over the odds.

Can any of the Eds help with other recruits and working out where they were in the 'picking order', even though they are now first in the pecking order!

Robertson?
Wijnaldum?
Mane?

Plus correcting any mistakes I've made above?

I've left Hendo, Gomez, Trent and Bobby off the list as they were already here when Klopp arrived - there was even a suspicion that Klopp had an influence over recruiting Bobby! That may just be a conspiracy theory based on the fact that Brendan kept playing him on the wing. But that decision may have been all down to Brendan himself!

Mane was definitely first choice, he changed the way we played. We made a couple of bids for Chilwell.

Was Daka our first choice?

Didn’t we want Zielinski before Wijnaldum? And i could have sworn there was another left back we looked at first before Robbo. I seem to remember there being strong Gotze rumours around the time we bought Mane but i think he was first choice.

Mark, Mane was not first choice. Mario Gotze was.

Chilwell was first choice BUT Klopp chose not to sign him for 10m and went with Milner who played LB iall season in 16/ 17.

Dak is not first choice and never was cos clearly we are not that into him. Malen is who we want.

Mane was always the one Klopp wanted, he wanted to play with a front 3 and he needed Mane to be able to get us up the pitch. Klopp spent the summer telling us we needed pace in attack.

I think benjamin mendy was our first choice lb he did play well for monaco that year we were willing to pay 40 mil for him but city came and offered 50 plus chilwell was our second but leicester didn’t want to sell at the time so we decided to go for robbo and the rest is history.
I think we all agree which is the best Lb.
