Can anyone remember the best atmosphere at Anfield they have experienced. I have been when the roof nearly came off. The first one that comes to mind was 3-3 vs man United. I was only a kid but the reaction when the equaliser went in. Then the first 4-3 against Neecaetle. The geordies played their part to. Recently the Barcelona game of course but the best atmosphere was chelsea in 2005 in the champions league semi final. Amazing night and the tension towards the end when 6 minutes came up is still something I feel today when watching repeats.

Great question but too many to list, starting with St Etienne in 77!

Great choice Drogie but for me, 12 months earlier when David Fairclough beat the entire Everton team, some of them twice, to score the winner. All in the 88th minute, no way back for the Bitters!

Widzew Lodz in about '83. We surprisingly lost the first leg in Poland 2-0, were fancied to win the cup but really needed the twelfth man's help. The crowd did their bit but they caught us on the break twice. Fabulous atmosphere though.
I was there hours before kick off, the turnstiles were not even open and I still had to queue and fight to get in.

There’s two that stand out for me. One was the Europa League tie against Manchester United, which was the most tense, hostile and bitter atmosphere i’ve ever experienced, the crowd was so pumped up and aggressive it felt like we were going to war. I was sat on the left side of the Main Stand right next to the United supporters, the back and forth between the two sets of fans was constant and anything but friendly, when Bobby got the second goal it was absolute limbs and the taunting was relentless, such a release and so satisfying.

The second was the Champions League tie against Manchester City, obviously we were all optimistic and thought we could beat them, there was something in the air but nobody wanted to say it out loud. Sometimes you just have those mad Anfield nights where you turn up and there's this intangible electricity about the place, none more so than that game. Nobody could have anticipated that first half and the disbelief and awe at what we were doing to the best team in the country (and at that point probably the world), goal after goal flying in. When Ox lined up that shot everyone held their breath, it crashed against the back of the net and i must have fallen down about 4 or 5 rows in the celebrations, it was absolutely mental! Grown adults bouncing up and down like school children, kissing and hugging people they’d never spoke to. It was the first game we used Allez Allez Allez at home, having learned it and brought it back from the Porto game, and it was also one of the first games where our defence really started to take shape following the signing of Virg and the entrusting of Robertson and Trent. For me, that game marked the real turning point for Klopps Liverpool, the point at which they were transformed from a team that was simply very entertaining but lacking that winning mentality, to a team that really seemed like they could do anything, a team on the cusp of greatness. A truly magical evening under the floodlights.

Great post AW. Thank you for sharing.

I didn't get to the PSG game but watched it on telly. I was at a similar game against Strasbourg where if memory serves we were also 3-0 down and won at home 2-0. I may be mistaken as it was a long time ago but it was a cracking atmosphere and I vaguely remember Ruddock (never one of my favourite players) getting a half chance to equalise near the end. The Europa league game against man u was horrible. Far nastier than many of the league games against them.

Chelsea in ECL, best atmosphere ever. Don't think I had a voice for a week after that.

In Istanbul. agree, was at that game too, best ever atmosphere I cam recall. got to London at about 5 am that morning and thought was a good idea to go work.

Ben I feel your pain. We did the same at Reading in the cup at their ground. The game went to extra time then on the motor way we got stuck behind a steam roller going so slow it felt like we weren't moving. I got back to my house at around 4:45 so didn't go to sleep as I had to be up for work at 5:30. I'd done it many times while drinking but stone cold sober it was an energy drink shift that day.

Europa league against Dortmund was my all time favourite and I feel lucky to have been at that game.

{Ed014's Note - hey Marty, think I owe you an apology from a few weeks back, thought you were having a dig at ed02 but seems I took your post the wrong way. So apologies mate! 🙂

Way back in 2015 i went to watch the 1-0 against Besiktas in the Europa league. Only paid £15 for the ticket. Wow. Dreadful game with only a Balotelli penalty between the sides but i was sat about 15 rows behind the goal bang in the middle of the Kop. Honestly, nothing can compare to the pre-game Anfield on a European night. I was completely and utterly blown away that night. Pub crawl straight off the back of the game, then staying in a room of at least 25 at Hatters hostel that night only added to the experience 😂 two Eastern European girls walked into the room at about 5am and naturally i was too buzzed to sleep. They obviously didn't realise though as they literally just stripped down about 3 feet from mine and my mates bunk! What a time to be alive 😂 Although the stale cornflakes for breakfast didn't do much for the hangover. At £17 a night though how could I complain?

{Ed025's Note - you make me want to support liverpool now MK.. :)

Very lucky to experience lots of European nights at anfield, I haven’t missed one in many years. The best ones always are on the road to winning the trophy IMO.
Barcelona recently springs to mind front row kop end with my brother and son. But my favourite is Olympiakos I got to see with my Dad before he died. That Stevie Gerrard strike where he ripped the net off on the way to making it 5.

For me it has to be the City game in 2018. The 15 or so minutes that we want on our scoring spree was absolutely electric!
Robertson's run from LB to RW was a moment that will live long in the memory. The crowd was fired up, the players were fired up.
Like a lot of the posters have mentioned on here, it just felt like there was something magical in the air.
It is definitely one of the nights that springs to mind when Anfield's atmosphere is mentioned.
