Also, who would you love to see as a pundit but never did it? Kenny Dalglish anyone?

I actually really like Jermaine Jenas. Fabregas and Viera are good too as they offer a different perspective coming from a different football system and philosophy. Souness is okay i guess but he has agenda's against certain players in a few rare cases.

Shearer, Muphy, Scott, Neville, Carragher, Keane, Owen, Ferdinand etc are all absolutely dreadful. I mute the half time discussion if any of them are present.

The quality has dropped massively since the days of Alan Hansen though.

I know he’s a nutter but during Dean Saunders radio commentary on Wales v Turkey he said ‘Wales are all over em. We could’ve scored 4 in that last attack’ 😂.

Surely not jenas mate he's as bad as hoddle. the standard has dropped incredibly with a commentator on RTE the other day proclaiming with pride that the team that scored the most goals in the game would have a good chance of winning. it really has gotten shocking punditry and commentary alike.

Especially for commentary I would like to see two colour commentators along side one play by play rather than the one and one we have now. I feel this would allow for a more conversational discussion about the match as it's going on and might actually get better insight out from them bouncing ideas off each other.

I like the lady they have on bbc at the moment. Not sure her name. I used to love Des Lynam. The Clint Eastwood of punditry. But most of the experts wind me up. The soccer saturday brigade being the worst. Merson is an idiot who can barely string a sentence together, Nicholas is just a bitter nasty piece of work who seems obsessed with wages, Sadly Le Tissier acts like something off Men Behaving Badly and Jeff Stelling eggs them on. I grew up with James Pearce I think his name is from football Italia. He knew his onions and was hilarious to boot.

Also speaking of football italia I used to like Ray Wilkins, he was very dour and matter of fact but he was my first exposure to "colour commentary"so I will always have a soft spot for him. Besides watching genious players like Roberto Roberto Baggio, Franco Baresi and Danny Dichio made up for it.

I really liked Mourinho as a pundit when he was doing it in between his stints at Man U and Spurs. Completely different to his persona as a manager. Would like to see him at it again.

Most of the Sky crew are poor, imo.

On Irish TV, Richie Sadlier's decent, although he does seem very bitter at times, not really sure why. Karen Duggan's was added to the RTE lineup for Ireland's recent friendlies and she seems good in the sense that she can actually analyse a football match, something which seems to escape her co-pundit Kevin Doyle.

Like MK Scouser I find myself pining for the good old days though. RTE's Giles, Dunphy and Brady were an unbeatable trio, aided by the late Bill O'Herlihy swinging around on his chair and posing his own opinions to the panel as ambiguous third party questions. "People are saying. " etc.

Shearer seems to be the voice of reason but a bit predictable.

I prefer Murphy and Jenus as they’re less safe and give their own genuine opinion at the time. Souness and Keane give the classic hard man view, which I like.

I find G Neville makes me think although I don’t always agree. He said the other night that England play Rice and Philips in CM as we have no one else? Really? Rice has been shocking for me so far. I’d put Foden in there instead considering the other options up top.

Jermaine jenas is a joke the guy can’t say any word that begins with the letter A. For example he will say “penalty erea” and once you’ve heard it you can’t unhear it. Other terrible pundits and commentators include ones who say “konte” instead of kante, conte was the managers name not the midfielders. And the ones who called Thiago silva Thiago when the only thiago plays middle of the park for us.

James Richardson - football Italia. Brilliant observer of football and lived an amazing life in Italy. Micheal Robinson was also very, very good. Eamonn Dunphy and Clive Tyldesley are also personal favourites of mine.

Jezza, Kante himself said "Kon-tay" is the correct pronunciation in French. "Kan-tay" is the Malian pronunciation si is also correct technically. Also it sounds like your main reason for hating Jenas is his dialect 😂

I honestly just really like Jenas for saying what he thinks and not what the majority want to hear. He seems to have a real interest in positional play which runs deeper than drawing lines and circles on a fancy screen to look clever. It's all opinions though mate so fair enough.

Agree fully with the guy above who said Clive. T and Ally McCoist. I had them down more as commentators so didn't mention them but as commentators go, they are easily the best duo. Ally is both knowledgeable and hilarious.

Micah Richards is a breath of fresh air. Crazy bugger with not the most in-depth analysis but a good guy. Works well as a younger, counter-point to the hard men of a previous generation in Souness and Keane. His knowledge of the dressing room is great too. Maybe the first of a new generation of softer pundits. Only criticism being he may sit on the fence due to the fact he has only just retired and knows some of the players, not wanting to upset anybody.

Souness I like. He’s to the point, often correct but tends to lose focus when challenged and makes silly comments.

Neville is in depth, I’ll give him that. I liked his passion in the beginning but soon found that I disagreed with most of what he says. He goes along the right lines but is too emotional and to be frank, whingey. If other pundits put the time in like him then we would, however, have much better analysis and insight.

I literally cannot thinking one good punditocracy like right now. I used to like Rio in the beginning but he has fallen off a bit. Jeans? Nope. The guy is a joke and so are majority of them. Neville? The guy lacks self awareness amongst MANY other attributes. For a guy who was atrocious as a manager, you would think he would be measured in his opinion of other managers. Alas, he is not. Sad.
