Via James Pearce re Saul

“At the moment it’s pretty tenuous. There were some reports of a £35m bid going in. My information is that definitely wasn’t correct. At the moment it’s a case of wait and see depending on what they can raise from sales. ”.

Looks like he is off to Barcelona anyway with a swap deal with AG.

Ed002 and Fabrizio Romano also said that we need to raise funds through sales of fringe players. So nothing groundbreaking there.

In any case, it looks as though we're prioritising a wide forward initially and if we go after a midfielder it will be later in the window with Renato Sanches the most likely.

Konate, Traore and Sanches would be my best guess for who we end the summer with. Can't say i'd have picked any of them given their injury records but if it is to be those three, in Klopp we trust.

Is that your personal opinion that we'll prioritize a wide forward over a midfielder MK? Just everything you read is about midfielders and it's relatively quiet on the wide forward mark? Would be interested if I've missed something as I think another versatile forward is arguably more important looking at the squad.

Traore and Sanches would be like this summer’s equivalent of Diao and Diouff. Utter wastes of money. Sanches is injured half the time and only decides to play well for Portugal and Traore couldn’t score if you gave him a million quid and stuck him in a Bangkok brothel.

Traore and Sanches would be a big waste of money for me. I’d rather play Elliot and Jones all season!

PickleRick, it's the opinion of Fabrizio Romano who is very rarely wrong when it comes to Liverpool info. He is adamant that a winger or striker is the priority due to the AFCON (Salah and Mane away) and Sanches is the most likely midfield signing later in the window if funds are raised. Things change fast in football but everything he says seems to tally up to an extent with what Ed002 says.

I would 100% agree with John 1983.

I would 100% agree with John 1983.

Romano has said that the Saul / Griezmann thing is pretty much on. So forget Saul, it’s not likely to happen.

{Ed001's Note - how can Atleti afford to do that?}

14 Jul 2021 19:02:17
I can’t see Saul going to Barcelona they are in financial dire straights. They are trying to get Messi to take an 80% wage cut. Barca need to seriously trim the wage bill, not add to it.

Ed001, i don't think these Spanish clubs are very well run to be honest 😂 although to be fair, apparently Griezmann is prepared to take a massive pay cut. Still seems strange how two clubs with crippling financial issues are still making huge deals. They'll bury themselves one day if they carry on.

{Ed001's Note - they are appallingly run, but even so they are both over the La Liga salary cap, so how are they able to bring players in? I don't understand the point of the cap there, it does not seem to actually do anything.}

Ed001, your guess is as good as mine. I’d imagine they’ll use the same creative accounting that gets Jacob Rees Mogg a zero tax bill.

{Ed001's Note - that's a good point, maybe Harry Redknapp's dog Rosie(?) has a new bank account?}
