It's crazy to see despite Edwards and Klopp doing wonders both off/ on the pitch, yet we've posters who are getting itchy with the way we deal in transfer market.

Last season a forward, Left back and midfielder was bought to strengthen our squad/ team.

This season once we got CL revenue we quickly spent on defense which we needed to fill the space.

There's no way the club can continue stockpiling the players, Midfield and forward areas were already strengthen last season.

Despite our squad being massively inflated, ED2 has always maintained we've looked at players which shows Edwards and Co. Are working extremely hard to come up with solutions. That should be positive signs instead of creating "PANIC" here :- (.

I just don’t want to see us miss out on our top targets as a result of waiting for the sales to come rolling in. There seems to be a few viable options as far as the midfield is concerned but we really aren’t spoilt for choice as far as forward targets go this summer; if Malen gets taken off the table then we could end up with somebody like Traore, which would be a disaster imo.

Some of these players have been up for sale the past 2 or 3 summers and we haven’t got anywhere with selling them. Also it feels awful to admit that i’m itching for a player to leave but the relationship between the club and Keita seems to be getting a bit toxic and i just think we could really do without the headache of a player who is as maligned as he is.

Obviously there’s a long time to go yet and there will be a lot of surprises along the way, it’s just that i’ve never been worried what Klopp and Edwards do with transfers up until this point. The last thing we want after the season we just had is to be caught with a squad that is ageing and stagnant. It needs more quality, it needs to have the average age brought down and it needs some fresh ideas. Going into another season with the likes of Origi, Shaqiri and Keita being expected push the first XI smells like stagnation and complacency to me.

The problem is will anybody actually want to buy them at the prices we set?

Woolback I get that, but weren't Thiago and Jota bought to strengthen the forward areas and midfield? This season konate to strengthen defense?

14 Jul 2021 22:37:39
OP, I heartily agree, can’t wait to see what happens.

AW, I sense your concern, but I really do think we will have no choice but to see this season. And if we do miss out on our first choices, we’ll Salah was 3rd or 4th?

14 Jul 2021 23:57:15
Can people stop worrying about Traore please? Someone suggested 25M for him, Wolves would want prob £50M minimum or maybe even £60M - there is no way we are foolish enough to pay that type of money for him.

Yes Klopp likes him but it's not happening.

Kopforever, we’re very lightweight in midfield it Henderson and Fabinho aren’t available, and after last seasons centre back debacle we can’t take the risk of not bringing in some more quality in midfield.

15 Jul 2021 00:32:00
Vvv that's your opinion on (injury base) we are not lightweight at all when we've got hendo, fab, Thiago, OX, Keita, Shaq, Curtis, Milner, etc that's 8 bodies fighting for just 3 positions.

{Ed0666's Note - I’d say 4-5 of them won’t be at Anfield the season after next so will need phasing out and replacing

15 Jul 2021 01:27:19
Spot on Ed66 mate, we need to phase them out just can't keep on stockpiling player's on the basses of injuries.

{Ed0666's Note - I would expect at least Shaq to go in the next few weeks and some of the other phased out next summer.

I won't panic or complain if we don't get any more major business done. Would be good to see a few outgoings though. I always compare the upcoming squad with last season's. We've added a potential brilliant defender. Got our starting 2 CB's back and eventually fit and hopefully injury free. Thiago can only improve on last season plus I hope to see Curtis Jones getting many more games, I love watching him play and have high hopes.
So, I think this midfield is good for how Klopp plays.
The forward line remains strong despite dips from Sadio and Bobby last season. Add a hopefully fit Jota to that lineup and our forward line is solid. Will Elliot be given the chance to oust one of the front 3/ 4?
That said, I know we need to be forward thinking and be looking to renew and refresh but as Ed002 has repeatedly pointed out, we have to be more sustainable and FSG have been hit hard by the C.V..
Let's hope the "Johnson variant" doesn't derail the start of the season. :)

I do tend to agree with that tbh about the phasing out of a few next season as they get older. Interesting you still think Shaq will be gone next few weeks mate, do you think we still find enough funds to bring in a couple of players? Most of our reported targets seem to have gone elsewhere. I just can’t help but feel we must strengthen and bring in a couple of quality players else we will be well short this season.

15 Jul 2021 09:55:58
Burkeyboy, if we lose Henderson and Fabinho for any extended period we’d be done for, pick any three from Keita, Milner, Ox, Jones and Thiago and we’ll straight up lose matches, it was pretty evident last season on a number of occasions that when we play without those two in midfield we look poor, we need to refresh and move on certain players. And given that we lost all of our first choice centre backs last season it’s not beyond the realms of probability that something like that could happen.

15 Jul 2021 10:09:47
In my opinion we need a world class attacking midfielder to give something different when Bobby is out of sorts. The Ox, Jones, Naby and Shaqiri are not it.

15 Jul 2021 12:45:01
Do we have no interest Aour? Lyon attacking Mid? Absolute class, him and Bissouma would be an absolute worldie of a window and put us right back in the mix.

{Ed002's Note - Houssem Aouar (CM) Lyon were frustrated by Arsenal not taking a realistic approach to trying to complete the transfer of the player last summer and with PSG for failing to make a suitable offer. Having lost out on their primary CM choice there remains a chance PSG could look to him again. With the impact of the broadcasting losses, clubs in France are facing a difficult time and Lyon have reduced their €60M asking price this summer to ensure a sale. Juventus interest has drifted as they have a preferred target in mind after failed offers including Federico Bernardeschi and Mattia De Sciglio, who Lyon are keen on but they want to separate the deals. There has been concern about his recent form and this was reflected by Real Madrid showing no interest when approached by his agent approached by his agent. Barcelona were also approached but they will not be in a position to do anything unless Frenkie de Jong is tempted away from the club. Fabio Paratici has taken his interest from Juventus to Spurs. Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and others have sent scouts to watch him over the past couple of seasons but none have declared an interest or looked to make an offer for Aouar. Arsenal will be told a take it or leave it price and be expected to pay it - a third party will be used by Arsenal in any direct discussions. Atletico Madrid will offer an option.}

As far as I can count, we currently have 19 players for 17 non homegrown positions. So whatever people want or are concerned about, at this moment in time without financial considerations we need to have the immediate future of 3 players sorted to add one more, and that doesn't include ox, Wilson or Williams who are homegrown. If we don't, anyone we buy would mean 3 players sitting out unable to contribute even if we desperately need bodies - there is no way the club will sanction that (nor should they)

Thanks Ed002, would love him at Anfield, a gee up from Klopp and the lad could be top draw.
