James Pearce linking us with Jarod Bowen. is this really the best we can look to bring in.

Agree1 Disagree0

21 Jul 2021 11:16:54
“James Pearce is linking us with Andrew Robertson, is that really the best that we can do”

At least wait until we sign the players, !

21 Jul 2021 11:46:54
He's on the shortlist. Fingers crossed towards the bottom.

21 Jul 2021 11:46:56
I’d never seen Andrew Robertson play to be fair but he cost 8 million. I’ve seen plenty of Bowen and West Ham payed what 25 million for him? I’m guessing he wouldn’t be cheaper than that. are we no longer allowed to question ins and outs?

21 Jul 2021 11:48:38
The whining over stuff that may never happen is strong with some on here. Well said Zeddicus.

21 Jul 2021 12:09:31
This is a rumours website almost all of this won’t happen. This is my opinion on a player linked from what I would suggest is a decent source. If we sign Bowen I will support him just my view that for what he would cost we could do better.

21 Jul 2021 12:18:39
Hang on? What's wrong with Jared Bowen? If the alternatives are Traore or Sarr, then i'll take Bowen every day. He's 24 years old and just scored 8 goals in his first full season in the Premier League. He didn't miss a game either by the way and counts towards the HG quota.

21 Jul 2021 12:20:42
Man City, United and Chelsea shop at Harrods whilst Liverpool go to the bargain aisle in Lidl. Just because Robertson worked it doesn't mean every cheap option will work.

21 Jul 2021 12:51:30
@mk scouser, I’d rather give Harvey Elliott and The Ox the minutes and look to use that cash towards a box to box midfield player.

21 Jul 2021 12:53:20
Have to agree with MK. Bowen might not be anyone's first choice but, assuming the fee is reasonable, he'd be a much, much better option than Traore or Sarr.

21 Jul 2021 12:57:13
I haven t seen a lot of him so I do t have much of an opinion either way on Bowen.

All the same I felt it was very important I commented on this topic.

21 Jul 2021 13:01:06
I get that Champs2020. I also want Elliott and Ox given chances. Judging by the friendly yesterday though (and comments from Klopp/ Linjders) Ox is seen as an option in the false 9 and Elliott in the midfield 3. So not necessarily related to Bowen.

21 Jul 2021 13:03:20
He’s scored more goals in his first full premier league season than Sarr, he’s scored more than Traore ever has and seems to be a hard worker who has stepped up a level pretty well, I can’t recall how the last player we bought who’d also played for Hull got on? Can anyone help be here?

21 Jul 2021 13:05:23
Anything I've seen of Bowen has been positive. Picks up great positions and has good pace and scores goals. I'd be very happy to sign him.

21 Jul 2021 13:09:36
Crikey Rudder, have you come across (amongst others)

Pogba - c£90m
Alexis Sanchez - c£25m (plus close to a billion a year in wages! )
Kepa - c£70m
Morata - c£55m
Ake - c£40m
Mendy - c£45m

Just because you flash your cash at Harrods doesn't make you smart!

Every fan knows that we need to get a CM and an attacker. Why would you think that because we spend £100m+ on them, they're going to be good?

In the same window that City paid £45m for Mendy, we paid £8m for Robbo - which one would you prefer?

In the same window that we paid c£37m for Salah, Chelsea paid c£55m for Morata - care to swap?

In the same window that we paid c£35m for Mane, United spent c£90m on Pogba - which one has contributed more to their team?

We've had one expensive flop - Keita. In that time, our rivals have had several each, most of which cost a lot more.

I'd much rather trust the recruitment team to find the right players for the positions we need filling, than spank £100m on a big name just to keep the fans happy, as it won't!

21 Jul 2021 13:13:10
@zspecialone - West Ham paid upwards of 25 million on him and he has 4 years left in his contract. Don’t think he will come cheap.

21 Jul 2021 13:34:06
Rudder, shopping at Aldi is how we got our success esp after we picked up VVD and Big Ali from Harrod’s on the way to the the very top of English, European and World football. Not to forget picking up Fab, Keita (a flop, I know) and Thiago from the Rebate aisle at Harrod’s as well. I think we have a great mix in terms of our choice of shops.

Oh and by the way, saying we shop at Aldi is not an insult like you think it is. In fact it is a compliment to our strategic transfer operation and at the same time, a back handed “Pimp” slap to the likes of Utd who have outspent us for years at Harrod’s YET have next to nothing to show for it.

21 Jul 2021 13:41:56
Rudder,

VVD - most expensive centre half in the world when we bought him. Ali - most expensive goalie in the world when we bought him.

If you are going to make a general statement, at least acknowledge that there is another view.

21 Jul 2021 13:42:42
Zed bud you could even add Keita in that list 🙈🙈.

21 Jul 2021 13:43:05
Question it to your hearts content pal but remember your opinion, like all of ours on here, don't matter one iota to Klopp, Edwards and company.

21 Jul 2021 13:49:17
kopforever, I agree, he is our only real transfer failure, and I mentioned him in my post.

21 Jul 2021 14:14:09
& expensive too Zed bud compare to the likes of Salah, Mane, Jota, Robbo etc.

21 Jul 2021 14:40:56
I know for a fact that the tea they sell in Harrods is made by typhoo. So just because your paying top money for something doesn’t mean your getting something better.

21 Jul 2021 14:46:32
My 2 cents on Bowen for what it's worth. Works extremely hard up and down the right side for West Ham, played CF a few times last season when Antonio was out after Haller left. I can see why Klopp would like him as a player and think he could utilise him (if its true that is) because I didn't see what they (committee, Klopp or whoever) saw in Jota.

21 Jul 2021 14:57:55
I really like Bowen but I do think we should look for either a right footer who comes in from the left wing or someone who can play as a deep lying or pressing forward. Jared Bowen is again a left footer who is more likely going to occupy a similar spot as Elliott in our formation.

21 Jul 2021 15:40:02
Rudder. are you sure you are a liverpool supporter?

21 Jul 2021 14:49:33
Not familiar with Bowen as a player, but if we could get him relatively cheaply in addition to other players such as Bissouma, I wouldn't mind. 8 goals in 40 apps isn't the best tally, but not the worst! I imagine he'd score a few more with us. Although I don't think spending £25 Million on him would be a smart siging IF we could get someone in like Malen for a similar price. We have Elliot already who can play on the wing an was fantastic for Blackburn last season. We also have Minamino and Shaq still at the club. If we end up selling either for 15 million (more likely Shaq) maybe we could get Bowen in.

21 Jul 2021 16:21:06
given how much West Ham apparently paid for him, I can't see us getting him for a nickel.

all that aside, he'd be a great addition to the squad. There is a player there and he's already shown what he can do. compared to some other names who come with probably the same or higher dollar values, this guy should definitely be considered.

21 Jul 2021 17:02:34
I think the Bowen interest would be understandable.

He would be relatively cheap - he's not on massive wages - £60k/ week - albeit his up front cost may be as much or more than Malen.

Importantly, he is PL proven, still has room for improvement at his age and, most importantly, is Home Grown.

One explanation for his relatively low stats - 8 goals in 40 starts - is that he has been used in a number of positions by West Ham last year, from midfield to winger to striker. By comparison, I believe Malen has been played as a forward/ striker all season hence you'd expect his goals/ games ratio to be higher.

21 Jul 2021 17:24:37
You can get some really good products in Lidl 😉.

21 Jul 2021 20:21:58
Using our own players would be better than signing Bowen. Just because Bowen plays for another club it doesn't mean he is a good idea. Shaqiri and Elliot rather than spending on Bowen please.

Better than Traore or Sarr doesn't make it ok - both would be a bad idea.

21 Jul 2021 20:54:26
Spot on, Sean. I’d rather use our academy youngsters or Elliot than sign Jared Bowen. He will not improve us one bit and is nowhere near the ability of the front 4 as currently constituted.

To me, Looks like a panic buy to me esp since WH are don’t need to sell. People bigging him up as PL proven, seem to be so desperate for a new signing that they would accept a guy who is nowhere near Donyell Malden’s ability and over pay for him. Sad.

21 Jul 2021 21:37:03
Totally agree OliRed, he was "on the beach" as they say when West Ham were fighting for top 4, his season completely fizzled out. Use our own if we can't buy better than him - it's squad quality more so than depth we need to add.
