1ij posted yesterday from the Echo article that we have made £108.5m from our sales of academy prospects since 2016. A few have asked for the list, so hear it is (all figures according to the Echo) :

2016
Brad Smith - £6m
Sergi Canos - £4.5m
Jordan Ibe - £16m

2017
Wisdom - £4.7m

2018
Brannagan - £0.2m
Lloyd Jones - undisc

2019
Camacho - £7m
Kent - £7.5m
Duncan - £1.8m
Ward - £12m

2020
Hoever - £13.5m (inc add ons)
Brewster - £23.5m

2021
Wilson - £12m

Obviously we've sold other players (usually at a profit) during that time, but these are the only ones that played in our academy that were sold post-Klopp.

Well you've left out Grabara £3.15 and £1.35 Millar just from this summer.

Add taiwo at a cool 6.5millions to that.

Thanks Zed and others. I’ve been busy with work so but had chance to add the details. Still a great academy so ignore the jealous jibes from certain posters on here.

Cheers Zeddicus. Its a pretty good return circa £20 million a season. It would be handy to know the costs in running an academy. It would be great if we could produce a couple more for the team rather than for sale. that's where the real money is saved. How much would Trent cost now, maybe even Curtis Jones in a few years?

27 Jul 2021 19:48:56
From an article on the Athletic, the avg cost of running the academy comes to about 10mn£ per season. But I don't think you could ever quantify the excitement of seeing a youth product doing well.
And in all these value calculations we are forgetting Trent whose market value would easily be around 80-100mn pounds.

Agreed thekoparmy. That was my point, great making a bit of money from the academy players, but nowhere near as good or lucrative as getting a young player into the first team on a permanent basis.

Thanks for adding in the others, folks.

I don't believe Solanke DOES count, Jurgen. He was brought in straight into the first team squad, rather than in the academy. He was 19 when he arrived, and 21 when we sold him, so not an academy product. Still a great bit of business to buy him for (I think? ) £3m and sell him for £19m to Bournemouth.

By the way, Jurgen, Stewart also isn't an academy graduate. We bough him aged 20 and sold him aged 23. He was an academy graduate from Spurs.
