Seems like centre backs are in the menu for a lot of teams. Eds and posters, when everyone is fit, who would be your best defensive pairing in the PL upcoming season?

Dias obviously is City's best and if it was mixing teams it would be VvD and Dias.

If everyone is fit in this scenario then the best pairing is VvD and Matip. (And I would keep Nat Phillips instead of Matip myself but ability wise he is top class when fit) .

Some good pairings their VVD-konate varane-maguire and Dias-Laporte.

Next season EPL is going to be more tougher then ever, our Rivals for the 1st time are trying to address their weaknesses then just buy another random big name player.

Will be more fresher than ever, after the season we had our coaching staff Manager will be in better place to make decisions and judgment for upcoming season 😁👍.

Laporte is an odd case, he was very good got injured which saw city's defence collapse and improved his reputation while not playing. then stones took his place, who to be fair looks far better in last 6 months.

Neither Maguire-Varane or Dias-laporte played much. Think we are discussing abt next season which Konate is going to partner VVD much of the season.

Laporte is a good CB and nothing more. As with Dias, Varane, De Ligt etc, Laporte’s reputation has been forged by a desperation to pluck a rival for Virgil from simply anywhere, regardless of how badly said rival pales in comparison. The best CB partnership in the world is Van Dijk and whoever else is next to him, and that’s that.

{Ed0666's Note - Can’t wait to see VVD and Ibou play together. They must be one of the biggest centre back pairings ever. Also not discounting Joe and Joel. Whoever plays let’s hope they have minimal injuries. Really want Gomes to have a terrific season just have so much love for the guy, classy and positive and has never complained even tho he’s had a wretched time with injuries.

Ed0666 - Completely agree on Gomez - he’s been nothing short of exceptional throughout his comeback. If anyone deserves a break, it’s him.
That said, I’m certain Ibou was bought with the intention of putting him straight in the team alongside Virgil when the latter is ready. I cannot remember a stronger quartet of CBs than the one we have now. Even Milan’s from 03-05 were not at the level of this group.

{Ed0666's Note - I agree mate they are phenomenal on paper but three of them are let’s face it and I hate to use this cliche ‘injury prone’ and Virgil is coming back from a bad injury. If they can all stay fit for large parts of the season we really will have an exceptional defensive record. Cannot wait to see Ibou get going I think he will make have a Dias type impression if he turns it on. But yeh fingers crossed Joe stays fit and he’s a red for a very long time.
