Hi Eds,
A question about Joe Gomez for this season. With both Neco and Tsimikas both possibly moving on Joe might find himself covering RB, LB and CB but I also wonder about DMF.
It seems to me that Fabs doesn't have a natural under-study for the defensive midfield holding role. Gini or Henderson covered when Fabs was absent, but neither are holding midfielders. With Gini now departed this only leaves Henderson as cover. I remember the likes of Leslie King and Rio Ferdinand stepping out of defence to play holding midfield many times and think Joe is similar in as much as he is quick, can pass, can tackle and break up play and wonder if you think Joe could do a job in this position?

I think there is no chance Nico and Tsimikas would both be sold. Hendo played DM the year we won the pl and got Pfa player of the year.

OP, where did you see that Tsimikas is moving? The guy is lighting it up in preseason and if there are links of him to other clubs, I’d call it recycled stuff. As Gomez, he needs to focus on actually doing and playing his real position of CB. Moving him around doesn’t help him. He’s a very good CB when in rhythm. He should stay there.

If any CB of our CB’s can play DM, it is Matip. He was a DM when he made his debut at Schalke before he got moved into CB. That is why he is brilliant at stepping out with the ball into midfield. He literally used to be a midfielder as a teenager.

I am sorry Oli but you don’t want Gomez to move around from his actual position, but was giving lectures on how Bobby would be a great CAM 😅😅😅😅.

Bit of a difference between a centre back and a forward player's roles though.
Always depends on the circumstances with injuries and player availability. We've seen Milner at left back and Fab at centre back (as well as Henderson? ) .
Ultimately you can't rule anything out with Klopp, that's why he likes versatile players.

Nothing to do with versatility there my friend. Milner flopped at left back. As for Fab. He isn’t an offensive fullback that out system demands. Its about using the squad and managing it.
