Thought I'd do a quick comparison from the conventional top 4's attacking options (No injury view) :

Liverpool

Mane Firmino Salah
(Jota) (Origi) (Minamino)

Elliot and ox can also be used as wide cover, but have been favoured in midfield as of late.

City

Grealish Torres Jesus
(sterling) (Mahrez)

Foden/ KDB can be used in the false 9 role, and torres and jesus are intechangeable.

Chelsea

Havertz Lukaku Mount
(Pulisic) (Werner) (Ziyech)

Man U - (1st vs backup is debatable)

Greenwood Ronaldo Sancho
(Martial) (Cavani) (Rashford)

My argument would be here that for a club who isn't able to spend as the others have due to available funds, we still have the best front 3 in the league with a very very good 4th option in jota or firmino whichever way you look at it.

Simply having a good name for a back up player doesn't always translate to a good back up option as they may require a complete change in style to get the best out of them, all in all I wouldn't have minded an upgrade but this is the same team who became near dominant over the last few season, with some key improvements in certain areas.

Last year was an injury plagued season like none other, that I highly doubt you'd see again soon.

I think we'll be fine lads, last time we had a quiet window and our rivals spent, we won number 6.

YNWA.

{Ed014's Note - I’ve just said much the same.

Dude, I really, really don't get the fuss about Chelsea's squad. It's strong, I get that, but there isn't a single world class player amongst their forward ranks and that includes Lukaku. Chelsea's top scorer had 7 goals last season, so what's all the hype about?

Everyone thinks that because Tuchel pulled off a few tactical masterclasses in the UCL, they'll sustain it over 38 games as well.

I posted this yesterday and got quickly buried, glad someone else agrees!

Looking at forwards on paper is one thing. The bottom line is we struggle to score goals and/ or put teams to the sword when the opportunities are created. It's all fine and well saying this can be remedied on the training ground, but it hasn't been so far. This has been going on for a couple of years now.

I look forward to the Ox can play striker propaganda.

{Ed014's Note - how has it been going on for a couple of years when in the last couple of years you won the League and UCL at a canter.

Fans seem to look at an injury plagued pandemic ravaged season and see it as some kind of gauge of the new norm for you! 🤦‍♂️

01 Sep 2021 11:29:34
I genuinely don't care what our rivals have or haven't done. It's about what we didn't do given the opportunity to.

{Ed014's Note - if as has been explained, you had no available funds, what were you expecting mate?

01 Sep 2021 11:30:29
Rainbow I think Liverpool and City have the strongest PL teams mainly because of the time the teams have had playing with each other. But, we're an aging squad. I think that'll be a key issue for us in the next couple of years so we will need to reinvest. Which is what Chelsea have done in younger players like Timo and Havertz last year. Their game plan is longer than ours as it stands. So, where I don't buy all this let's buy a player just to show fans its the transfer window, we may need to reinvest in proven talent soon and as such are behind Chelsea in that sense.

01 Sep 2021 11:35:16
mate it doesn't fuel the narrative to point out that we actually have 6 attackers in the first team. saying that the quality isn't good is perhaps true, but doesn't detract from the fact that we can't be adding a 7th or 8th body without moving others on and we'd more than likely be limited in terms of the HG issue.

01 Sep 2021 11:38:56
Comparing ox, Elliott, minamino and Origi to the rest? Another laughable post.

01 Sep 2021 11:49:20
Gandalf, it's an ageing squad but not over the hill either. For at least a short term perspective, the average age of the squad is fine.

The thing is that people aren't spitting the dummy because the squad's evolution for the next generation hasn't quite begun yet, it's because Talksport and Sky Sports are giving all of their attention and praise to Chelsea and City, and they want more signings to feel included.

{Ed014's Note - that about sums it right up RJ

01 Sep 2021 12:06:26
But they won't all stay fit and Citys and Chelseas back up options are of equal quality, Origi is awful 90% of the time, Minamino looks lost when sat on the bench, doesn't seem interested in the game, that 2 of the "back up" who would just about make Southamptons line up, its not good enough, there is no hiding place for the owners, football teams need investment in player every year to stay fresh, FSG have made a little profit on transfers yet again, when there were players out there, Lookman went to Leicester on loan, he would top both Origi and Mini, EMBARRASSING WINDOW FOR US.

01 Sep 2021 12:08:40
DSR I was merely stating our options, hardly comparing in terms of quality, but some on here seem to want everything.

Do you not think many of our rival fans would jump at the chance to have our front 3/ 4?

01 Sep 2021 12:16:39
Lancaster, forget Chelsea's back up options, would you even take their first choice forward options over Liverpool's? If you would then you need a word with yourself.

01 Sep 2021 12:34:55
Wouldn't touch Lukaku, but Mount or Havertz over Firmino would take that definitely and certainly take all there options over our back ups.

01 Sep 2021 12:48:29
Salah is world class. mane had a stinker last season by his own admission and hopefully gets back to where he was. Jota scores goals. Bobby does a lot of good things but isn't a regular goal scorer. All getting on a bit apart from jota.
The only question is when does the rebuild start and wheres the money going to come from to do it.
Let's hope the youngsters start coming through.

01 Sep 2021 15:19:24
Spot on, Ed14. Using a dystopian CV ridden season with games every three days and players susceptible to huge fitness issues as some yardstick to judge what would happen in a normal season, is the stuff of madness.

Also, we have an aging squad. And City didn’t with Kompany, Silva, Yaya, Aguero, Gündogan, Fernandinho and KDB who were actually their core players? They were fazed out BUT gradually. KDB, Gündogan, and Fernandinho are still there and for good reason. You need those experienced players to help Rodri, Foden, Torres’ thru, just like we need our veterans to shepherd Curtis, Jota, Elliott thru.

Lancastered, you can beat up on our players all you want BUT the fact remains that these players have won us the title and your Chelsea players have NOT so pipe down and wait till they do it and then you can go off.
