Just seen swiss rambles post about wages and we have a higher wage bill than everyone bar man city which is near our wage bill, what i don't get is why players at chelsea like pulisic, kovacic, chilwell, werner, ziyech are happy to sit on the bench and not play when they aren't on that high a salary and could be playing anywhere else on higher wage and playing and neither are mahrez, sterling, bernardo silva, laport. when they clearly aren't being paid that much i thought the reason they where happy to sit on the bench was wages? . so everyone saying players don't want to come and sit on the bench well clearly they do all them players get in 99% or first team elevens elsewhere and would be on higher wages but why are they happy to sit on the bench? .

There are so many errors in this post it's hard to know where to start. Firstly nearly all of those players have already started a match this season despite it being in its open stages, secondly their wages are very much higher than they reasonably expect elsewhere, thirdly should a play take a comparatively lower wage ( this doesn't seem to happen often for long) it will almost assuredly be due to honours and/ or a concerted attempt to break into the first team re-renegotiating a suitable increase would occur . This is mirrored in the normal world for example my so-called gaffer thinks I'm a lazy little wage thief and has indicated that any increase in monies paid to me depend on me somehow ascending above his carcass .

Some players are happy to sit on a bench earning good money to spend in the shops in London mate. Liverpool doesn’t have the same pulling power as a city.

Saw the post too. It is a good thread, as it always is by SR.

Not sure what you're saying. Those players you list start many games for top clubs that win big trophies.

A lot of those players you've mentioned get loads of games and a lot of them are on very high wages.

I think far too much is being made of Liverpool's "lack of" spending.

Against Chelsea we had £20m Thiago, £36m Konate, £35m Oxlade-Chamberlain, £55m Keita, £45m Jota, £7m Minamino, £3m Gomez and £12m Tsimikas on the bench. In fact Kelleher was the only product of the academy. Well over £200m of players on the bench!

Not being funny, but if we lack depth, it's not because we haven't spent enough money in the last few years.

I'm not even surprised we have a huge wage bill. Outside of that match day squad we also have Milner, Jones, Origi, Williams, Adrian, Karius and Phillips on the pay roll who couldn't even make the bench.

Our squad is massive and the best part of 20 players are most likely on starting XI salaries, or cost a small fortune to acquire.

We've spent plenty. It's time some of them started paying Klopp and the fans back.

Completely agree with you MK scouser. Time to repay the faith from some of those players
Up the pool.

Paying the fans back? For what? Have you not been on this site the last couple of years? Half of our players get dogs abuse from our ‘supporters’. You’ll never walk alone my arse.

Spot on, MKS. The guys we had on the bench vs Chelsea were the best piece of squad depth we have had in arguably 20 years in terms of quality. Even Rafa didn't have anywhere near the squad depth on show in that game.

As for the original post, players are okay to sit on the bench if they cannot get the same or near the same wages elsewhere. This is not to anyone esp. since they know that ore than likely, they will get games considering you Chelsea example. Not sure why that has anything to do with your last question.
