I really hate the international windows.

Not because we pick up injuries (although we do, and that's also incredibly frustrating! ) but because most sensible posters don't have much to talk about other than navel gazing about our squad!

Of course there are (in the main) those posters who are a little pessimistic and those that are a little optimistic. You know who you are so I won't name any names other than saying that I'm in the slightly more optimistic group.

We all support the team so there's no right or wrong, but just slightly different flavours of support. Note that I am ignoring the extremes - we have them on both sides, but especially the negative (some of whom are trolls) . You can tell when there's little or no football as the bickering levels tend to go through the roof!

Can't wait for the weekend and then hopefully a pretty solid run through to Xmas by which time we will be able to better answer the questions that we are all concerned about - how will we compete? How will the other teams do? Have we got enough quality and depth to get through? And so on.

Only 3 more days to go and then we can get back to debating games rather than trying to answer 'what ifs'. At least until the window opens again in Jan 22!

Nice post Zed.

Zed, you're definitely my favourite poster on here, always approach things in a logical and sensible manner, and I appreciate that.

Having said that, I can't believe we passed up on every single player that other teams have signed this season, we've really dropped the ball, Klopp out.

I have just browsed since the Chelsea game 😂

Seems like we need a complete squad overhaul 😂 god help it if we loose to Leeds.

I hear ya, Zed. But I bet I really hate the international windows more. I'm Irish and trying to support and maintain enthusiasm for a team with so many and varied problems is exhausting, believe me. It also makes me realize how spoiled we are as Liverpool fans. Anyone complaining about the quality or depth of this Liverpool squad can only be seeking perfection (or nitpicking) . We have an excellent team that plays beautiful fast football, so let's go get behind them and cheer them on to try and win every game. We've got 4 competitions to look forward to with a grand chance of seeing some silverware, which is really what football is all about and most teams in the world dream of (except City and the League Cup) . At the elite level it is easy to lose sight of the fairer side of football and take for granted the amazing world-class players that we currently have at the club. The standard set by Klopp and the staff and squad is extremely high and we can only strive to break through that glass ceiling to an absolutely phenomenal level and win the biggest trophies in world football. I'm super excited for the upcoming games and season and look forward to every nail-biting moment Liverpool will gloriously throw at us, as they usually do. I mean, at least we're not Arsenal fans, thank dog! lol.

There are far more positive posts than negative. It’s just when it’s more negative other posters jump all over it so the treads are bigger.

Jurgen Meister, I was reminded of the Irish FA 'challenges' when Jack Charlton's death last year prompted me to read his autobiography.

It was a bit of a joke in the 80s and 90s, with all of these players 'discovering' Irish ancestry - Lawro and Townsend being two that spring to mind. However, Charlton and the Irish FA didn't break any rules and it brought some great success to the national team so fair play to them.

If you go back that far (not asking your age, just sayin', like! ) how was that period generally viewed amongst the nationals? Did they resent that their nationality was being diluted by these players who were switching allegiance to get a chance of international football, or was it really a celebrated period of Irish football?

This is not the build up to a gag (sorry to disappoint! ) but I am genuinely interested.

From my PoV, if Mbappe 'discovered' and English grandparent, I would be absolutely delighted!

I hate the international window because of the standard of the football. Basically it’s one sided with Nations who are either part time or terrible being placed in groups with seeded top end professionals. And all this results in is one team parking 3 buses and then the other team playing keep ball and eventually breaking said opposition down and scoring a few goals.

The only good thing about is it’s like printing free money when it comes to accumulators as it’s not hardly rocket science to put teams down who are guaranteed to win.

Jurgen Meister, support a different national team. It doesn’t matter where you are born as long as some distant relative comes from the nation you’re considering. Footballers have been doing it for years.
