Eds. What is the view on Phillips? Is he being watched by us at all? Surely his form over the last 12 months should have heads turning in his direction.

I was going to ask Ed001s opinion on Philips. My father thinks he’s world class, but I just don’t see anything special. In one of the Euro knockout games (can’t remember which one) I thought he was really poor, and the game passed him by. If your around Ed001 grateful for your thoughts. I’m happy to be put right if I’m being too harsh?

He plays deep for Leeds as it is about putting him in a position to launch quick counters, but for England it is under the clueless waistcoated one and so defensive. He is not a defensive midfielder. He is a playmaker and has a very good range of passing and the vision to match.}

I've not really bought into Phillips as a top player yet but you can see he can be even better. I've only seen him play well for England once though, and Leeds play such an open style that i can't decide if he's useless at reading the game, or whether it just looks that way because the whole XI is all over the place positionally.

What i will say though, is Leeds did struggle without him. They only picked up 6 points from 24 when he was injured and they didn't play any of the top 4 in those games either. So he's clearly influential. Leeds tend to dominate possession and his ability to keep the ball is probably a large part of why they miss him so badly.

I'd just like to see him do more in open play before i consider him a top player. He clearly has the technical ability to be a top playmaker but most of his threat to the opposition goal comes from direct and indirect set pieces. In open play he rarely creates clear cut chances or tests the goal keeper. If he added that to his game a top 6 team would be in for him I'm sure. He's got plenty of time on his side.

He’s a player I like to watch, then again I like to watch Leeds. Never world class but he’s a good player.

Phillips is a decent to good player. I don't think he is very good yet and definitely nowhere near top class. He has the potential to improve and get a lot better than he is now, for sure.
